Hey, thanks for the info. I'm always game for a good Christmas episode. :)

I think my favorite episode is the one from 1992 where Roseanne, Bev, Jackie, and Nana Mary get stuck at the diner during a snowstorm, Dan, Nancy, and her girlfriend are at the house and Darlene visits David, but ends up getting trapped at his house in Chicago where she finds out the truth about his home life. I think that is my favorite. I also like the one from 1991 and from 1993. The 1995 and 1996 ones weren't all that great.

I like them all but I especially like the last one where they burn their morgage papers. Very good episode. :-)

There were a total of 5:

Santa Claus(1991)
Roseanne talks Leon into letting her play Santa Claus at the mall -- and hears something she wishes she hadn't from one of the kids' mothers, who turns out to be Darlene's new friend and confidante.

It's No Place Like Home for the Holidays(1992)
A Christmas Eve snowstorm scatters the Connors, with Roseanne and Jackie trapped at the Lunch Box with Bev and Nana Mary, while Darlene takes shelter at David's and learns the truth about his home life.

White Trash Christmas(1993)
Roseanne and Dan snub the neighborhood association by putting up gaudy Xmas decorations, and become furious with Becky when she gives the check they have given her for college to Mark and takes a job as a waitress in a tacky bar.

December Bride(1995)
Christmas for the Conners bring more than the usual holiday cheer and festivities, it also brings a wedding -- for Leon and Scott.

Home for the Holidays(1996)
After a long stay in California with his mother, Dan returns home for Christmas and he, Roseanne and the rest of the family begin to realize how fortunate they are to have each other and how much they have to be thankful for as the old year ends.

I'm trying to decide if I'm going to tape this. I've been watching Roseanne since it came on Nick. I finally got my husband into it about a month or so ago--Roseanne was working at the salon.
From these boards and other research I've done on the show, I pretty much know what the future holds...the marriages, the births, I saw Dan's heart attack episode, and of course, the infamous final season and last episode.
My husband, on the other hand, doesn't like to know what's in store, so I don't tell him what I know. He prefers to watch any show unfold as if it's the first time, because for him, it is the first time.
Do any of these Christmas shows give away too much....from what is currently airing?
Thanks. :)

Not really. N@N is already to the 1994-1995 season anyway:

The 1995 one is just the gay marriage of Leon and Scott and the 1996 one is where Dan returns from California after caring for his sick mother, the very next episode after this one reveals he was having an affair in California.

Thanks Brent. I'm glad it doesn't show Dan's affair or any other major developments.
I'll tape it, and we'll watch it tomorrow night or even this weekend.
:)

Why don't you watch the episodes before your husband does? Then you can form your own opinion about it.

I can tell you for a fact that the first 3 episodes don't give anything away because N@N is already past those episodes...

That's a good idea. It's important to me that he's surprised about Dan's heart attack and the affair. I saw the heart attack episode in the Marathon a while back.

I'm looking forward to the affair era (I'm sure it's more than one episode), although I'm sure it's heartbreaking to see Roseanne in so much emotional pain.

For example, the hubby thinks that Darlene and David are over for good. I don't want to ruin that 'soap opera--what's going to happen next?' thing for him.

I'm sure there are things that I don't know. I know the biggies that are posted here. Jackie's future is unknown to me as is the fate of The Lunch Box. Lots of stuff I don't know.

Well the affair thing is kinda like a 3-part episode, "Say It Ain't So" is the one where they find out about then "Hit the Road, Jack" is where Dan leaves and Roseanne drives aimlessly around Lanford to drown her sorrows and D.J. gets a new friend to cope with(that Heather girl) the next episode "The War Room" Roseanne locks herself in her room and doesn't come out for days. Then, there's a 2-part episode where Roseanne starts to fall for the Wellman guy and then the episode after that Dan and Roseanne start to get back together and just as they start to do it, Jackie calls and says Darlene is in the hospital(which leads into the birth of the very premature baby).

Janice

Everything you stated was news to me. I knew Darlene had a baby but didn't know it was premature. I don't who Heather or the Wellman guy is either.
I can't believe Dan cheated on Roseanne. Then again, it really didn't happen now, did it.

Actually, it didn't. Because he was dead LOL.

Yes. D.J. met Heather and they almost had sex a couple of episodes after the Birth of Darlene's baby. That episode was hilarous... he was on the phone with Mark who was at a wrestling match with Jackie and D.J. said "Where is the glove" and Mark was like what? And he said "the condom!" and then Jackie asks what was going on and Mark said "nothing is wrong, D.J. just wanted a condom." She said "What?"

It was hilarous...

Keep in mind, Janice, that Nick at Nite might skip over "December Bride" and "Home for the Holidays" once they get around to airing their respective seasons. I know for some time they skipped out on showing each season's Halloween episode after they already aired them during the marathon in October. It's a really disruptive thing to do for a show like this...

So you might want to get those two on tape and watch them later.

I like networks that skip holiday episodes unless it is around that holiday. There's nothing more annoying than seeing a Christmas episode in July.

But like I said, with a show like Roseanne, important events often take place during holiday episodes. For example, I just saw "It's No Place Like Home for The Holidays" for the first time, in which David's bad home life is revealed (thereby paving the way for the major plot development of him moving in with the Connors). They skipped showing it when they were airing the other season 5 episodes, and it just ruins the flow.

Even more annoying is that they're just going to skip episodes 154 and 155 which would have run on Tuesday (152 & 153 on Monday; Tuesday is marathon; Wednesday skips to 156 and 157). I was looking forward to 154 and 155 because they featured Danny Materson from That 70s Show. Oh well, maybe in a few months.

It could be worse, though. When Different Strokes and Facts of Life were on Nick at Nite, I don't think they ever showed the last few seasons of these shows. Every time they had a marathon, they'd just start the series from the beginning again.

They showed 154 and 155 at 2am Tuesday Morning... it would have repeated at 11pm Tuesday, but the marathon pre-empted it. N@N hasn't skipped any episodes except a couple of holiday episodes...

So having given in and watched "December Bride" and "Home for the Holidays" before I've seen seasons 8 or 9, I don't see any of the problems I always hear about episodes from those seasons. They seemed just as smart and funny as any episode in seasons before, and seeing the Conners in such nice shape (well, okay, so Dan's cheating, and this season didn't really happen, but still) in season 9 really made me smile. The part where Dan burns the mortage was downright poetic.

I saw the 1996 one for the first time last night... It was absolutely wonderful when they burned the mortgage. Now what happens in the next episode after that episode where Dan reveals the affair makes sense.

I taped the Christmas Marathon but haven't watched it yet. It reveals that the Connors hit the lottery in one of the episodes?

Brent88
12-11-2003, 12:02 PM
The last one. It happened several episodes before that(before Dan went to California) they don't directly really say they won the lottery though. You might want to watch the episode then make your own decision on showing it to your husband.
