Okay, I'll show you some pictures. I live in Rome, NY. It's a sucky, boring little city and keep in mind all of the pictures make it look better than it really is.

City Hall...

*Pleasant Tomorrow*
11-06-2003, 05:24 PM
Entrance to Rome Griffis Park. It used to be a base but it's closed down now. It's also where they held Woodstock 99...and our new school's built in there now.

The harbor and the bridge over it...I used to go there a lot when I was little, but I havn't really gone in awhile.

A street  You can tell it's really old. That's the garage on the left and St. Peter's I think it is on the right...not the church I go to which is St. Mary's...

11-06-2003, 05:28 PM
And our highschool's track. It's supposed to be one of the best in the area and they've held a lot of events here. That's the old highschool on the lower left hand side.

You'd have to put up with quite a quack for the occasional glimpse of a famous actor or actress. I've seen Hugh Grant in Bakewell too. I just walked into our local market and there he was, sipping some tea. But I haven't seen Emma Thompson yet and she's my favorite.

Where I live, it's more like a bunch of districts or subdivisions, not just one town. So, here are a couple of views from my area...

Top photo shows the Porter Ranch area just north of the 118 freeway. The homes in this area are very expensive- $800,000 is not uncommon.

Bottom photo is the view heading into Chatsworth (which officially begins just past that green light). The Simi Hills (which I love to hike in) are in the background.
Incidentally, Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball owned and lived at a ranch on the south (left) side of this street a little ways past the green light. The exact address was 19700 Devonshire St. They lived there from the late 1930s up to 1955, then they moved to Beverly Hills.

picture of mt. graham i took from my back yard last summer when it was in flames.

haha for a second i was thinking why cant i find any pictures of the wal*mart/safeway area (the downtown part of it) until i realized that part isn't in my town, it's in thatcher. the cities are combined. but still the mt. graham center is ours, and i couldn't find any pictures of that. i love my city. half of it is ghetto (the old main street area) and half of it (the new downtown area) isn't.

Ahh, yes. I just assumed to print screen it. I don't even remember what highway it was. We were driving from Minnesota to Ohio when we went through there. I remember it was kind of creepy. Like all gas stations had bullet-proof glass protecting the cashiers. Well maybe not all, but the one we stopped at did.

It was probably I-80 then. I-55 runs straight into downtown Chicago.

You were in the extreme south of Chicagoland. Like almost in Illinois. It's a completely different world down there. I myself never ventured there...too scary.

I don't see you anywhere!

This reminds me of the time I was in DC. We were in front of the White House, and I SWORE I saw Chelsea Clinton looking out of the window. I kept telling people, but no one would believe me.

LOL! I'm being a turd. I'm not really looking out a window. I don't even think I was in high school at the time that picture was taken.

I thought I saw Chelsea at Rite Aide yesterday!!!!! I could have sworn it was her. I probably scared her b/c I kept looking at her. That's just funny that you thought you saw her too. She's like where's Waldo or something.

I figured, I just thought I'd act dumb and go along with it. ;)

I would have so paid you if you had taken a picture or something. Man, I still have pictures of DC. Maybe I should look them up and see if I can still see her, haha.

But it had to be Chelsea. Remember our whole "Had the same math teach junior year who'd never teach math" relation? We're lead like parallel lives 2000+ miles away from each other.

Incidentally, Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball owned and lived at a ranch on the south (left) side of this street a little ways past the green light. The exact address was 19700 Devonshire St. They lived there from the late 1930s up to 1955, then they moved to Beverly Hills.

I always wanted to see that house. But I read that it's changed a lot. And it was damaged in the Northridge quake.

I'm pretty sure it's long gone. From memory, at the site of the former ranch are now either homes or one of those Pinecrest private schools. What I'll do, next time I go by, is take a photograph of the spot that matches the address.

This ranch is mentioned in the book, "Love, Lucy."

The snow came really early this year. Usually we don't get any until right around Christmas, and then it stays through March. We got our first snowfall right before Thanksgiving :)

Yeah, depending on traffic! I have seen that school (I went to Granada Hills H.S.).

You have reminded me to take a pic of what used to be the Arnaz/Ball home on Devonshire St. It's all houses now, with a wall all around them.

I now live just north of T.O. in Caledon (countryside), but lived in Toronto proper for most of my life (since I was 6 mos old) so I consider it my hometown. Yup - never been up in the CN Tower - afraid of heights  !

Hey - btw - haven't forgotten ya Mona - I know I owe you a response to your last PM still - just need a moment to settle down at get at it! ;) You're on my 'TO DO" list!

P.S. - You should try to get up for July 2nd this year tho - we're staging the Canadian segment of Live 8 - sounds like the Rolling Stones might be playing here (they usually rehearse here for their tours - they love Toronto).
You'll love it here - I guarantee it!

Wow - a lot nicer than Minden, Ontario!! My brother's rock band played in the main hotel there - what a dump!! The stage was on a 30 degree angle and they had to keep their amps on the stage using duct tape!

Cool! :D I recognized the Sky Dome, and I was thinking, "Is it Toronto? Maybe not... maybe... I'll just find out by asking." Actually, they've changed the name of SkyDome to The Rogers Centre (some billionaire named Ted Rogers bought it and changed the name to his own - he's a major egomaniac! It'll always be SkyDome to me. Yes, I hear the revolving restaurant is lovely (they average 2 marriage proposals a week in it). Just don't leave your purse on the ledge or it'll be half way across the room in a half hour - my friend did that! ). I'll scan some pics my parents took when they went up shortly after it was built in 1976 from the observation deck and glass floor. I think it's still considered the tallest free-standing structure in the world.

The opera house looks like something on a movie set!Well, on the dvd of About Schmidt, there is a cut scene that was filmed at our museum, Pioneer Village (aka P.Ville). Most of the movie was filmed around where I live. At imdb.com they give all the info if you click on filming locations. And in the movie Sarah, Plain, and Tall, ALL of the scene's of the town and the train station and the fancy houses were filmed in my hometown of Grand Island Nebraska at Stuhr Museum. For every single year of my freakin life I've been going to the museum not knowing that some of the movie was filmed there. I found out when I was 11. :p

In the first pic, I've stood in that spot with my sister!! It's in the train station.
