View Full Version : Meet Your Meat
SBTB Geek 10-31-2003, 04:56 PM I didn't really want to post this, but after reading Tim's thread on KFC, I think most of you guys will be willing to see this. Although, in no way do I associate myself with PeTA's wild tactics, I believe they are trying to send a good message with this PSA.
In that same thread Sarah made a comment about how some farmers raise their cattle/chicken and sell them to companies. If every company had such a relationship, everything would of been perfect. But the truth is... that HARDLY ever happens. Most companies like McDonalds, Farmer Johns, KFC, and especially Burger King treat their animals in every INHUMANE ways. Yes... they are going to end up dying, but these animals are put through soooo much hardship, and terrible conditions.
I warn you, if you are easily disgusted or offended please don't watch the video. But if you willing to see what these poor animals go through, be brave and watch. For some of you, this video will have such an impact that will cause you to stop eating meat from this day on.

Please post your opinion about this after watching.
Thank you.
Central Perk 10-31-2003, 06:00 PM That PSA is really depressing and those animals are treated horrible. It's so depressing to see animals that are so heavy that their legs can't support them, and that animals are put into scalding tanks while still alive. :(
david&maddie4ever 11-01-2003, 05:41 PM I only watched the first part, but it is really sad that that kind of stuff is still legal. :(
I'm not a vegetarian, and I never will be, but that stuff can really get to ya. :cow: pig:
BTW: I find it hard to believe ANYTHING Alec Baldwin has to say!
Later. :bye:

The Modfather 11-01-2003, 05:58 PM I was a vegetarian for 2 years. Then last year I had KFC and :liplick: I got addicted to it. I still don't eat ANY red meat e.g. steak etc.... I also don't eat veal. I eat hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken.
Mr. Television 11-01-2003, 06:00 PM I love chicken, pork and veal. I'm not crazy about hamburgers or hot dogs.

Same here
Read the book "Fast Food Nation." You'll never eat at a McDonalds again.
Janice 11-01-2003, 09:30 PM I can't read this thread, but I know what it's about.
I had a vegetarian friend who once told me that she doesn't eat anything that had parents.

I hate all fast-food burger places. Me and my friends were once at Wendy's a few years back. We ordered food to go, and when we got to my house, there was this weird, white dust over the burger and it wasn't even fully cooked. It was disgusting. Granted, Wendy's is probably the best place out of all burger places since they've added the pita menu, but I'll never eat a burger from there again.

NASTY!
Janice 11-01-2003, 11:38 PM I got food poisoning from a Wendy's burger once. I was never so sick in my life.
I hate fast food now.
InspectorExstead 11-02-2003, 01:49 AM Oi...my computer's slow. I can't tell if those are sheeps, pigs, or cats in one of the images. I guess it's best. I'd be too grossed out.
Yeah...I've been a vegetarian for three and a half years. My parents thought this was phase and that I would eventually give in and return to meat. They were wrong. What my parents, and many adults, don't get is that i'm not doing this to lose weight (i could care less about that), but that i'm doing it becuase I think it's so wrong and disgusting to eat something that was once alive, something that breathed and walked, and ate, and probably had kids. Something that felt, touched, and had eyes that opened and closed.
I'm not offended by people who eat meat around me, I've learned that disgusting lectures don't work. But what I am offended by...is when people shove meat, dead animals, on my plate and say "you could use some meat on your bones." I hate thanksgiving. it's the worse holiday, because this happens so many times. why can i not eat my tofu salad and veggie meat sandwich in peace? i don't understand what is wrong with that!
part of the reason why my dad didn't buy me a car when i turned 16 was because i refused to eat meat. this was six months ago...i hadn't had meat in 3 years, yet, i will gladly choke the stuff down, so i can get a piece of metal that can transport me? oh yeah! who cares about the animals! just give me the car! and my mom...everytime i do something right, pass the ap test, get straight a's, do so much good stuff, yet she always goes "now if you would only eat meat..." and she totally overlooks the other things.
i'm a really picky eater as a result. i don't eat eggs and milk plain. they can be in stuff i eat (coffee, big example, or ice cream, or bread). so, i'm not a full vegan. i'm a full vegetarian though, no meat (red or white) and no fish or seafood. i refuse to eat pizza that has been put in the pepporoni box and lots of other picky stuff.
(you know what...thank you for posing this, because you've just given me an idea for my next article....if the stupid editors print it this time.)
i'm not against people eating meat, if they're comfortable with it. so, why are people so against me eating meat? i have so much soy food and tofu...i'm practically swimming in it. it's not like i'm not getting enough vitamins (with the tofu, soy products, soy milk, soy beans, and veggie meats, i get plenty). so, why are people, not including my parents (i get that they're worried, but blackmailing me with not getting a car is not the smartest thing to do, made me realize even more they really do not get this) so opposed to my vegetarianism?
(sorry i ranted on and on....and again, thanks everyone, i'm going to have a really great article thanks to all of you. :) )

That is so touching that I could cry. You have my admiration. I've been tossing around the idea of becoming a vegetarian for years. I probably could since I eat red meat once a month if that, never pork.
I really like chicken. I would miss that, but I eat a lot of pasta, veggies, cereal. I would miss lobster and shrimp too.
I don't eat eggs. The thought of it makes me sick.
I feel guilty eating meat. I love animals to the point of obsession. How can I be such a hipocrite.
Anyway, you're all that and a bag of chips. :clap
Mr. Television 11-02-2003, 02:20 AM I don't like enough vegetables to give up meat.
DianeChambers87 11-02-2003, 02:25 AM I love meat...but after watching that...i think i'm going to give it up..

There's different types of vegetarians, if you like seafood alot you should look into becoming a pesco-vegetarian. I have wanted to be a vegetarian for awhile now and so I've been a semi-vegetarian, meaning I eat meat sometimes but limit the animal products I consume. Now I want to completly cut off eating chicken, steak, etc. and just stick to the dairy products and seafood. So, that qualifies as a pesco-vegetarian.
Hollow 11-02-2003, 04:34 PM LFMAO that movie is freakin hilarious!!!!!!!!! hahaha "animals in a slaughter house is beyond your worse nightmares"

aww. thanks.
when i was little, my parents rarely fed me pork. i had pepporoni on my pizzas, but not a lot. they didn't like the idea of feeding me so much fat.
i get disgusted thinking about eating eggs...chicken babies. *shudders*
like Kristina said, you could become a pesco-vegetarian. i have a couple of friends who only eat white meat and fish.
DustBunny 11-03-2003, 01:21 AM I can't bring myself to watch it.ohno:

Actually, if there is no rooster around a bunch of hens, then the eggs the hens lay don't contain babies. I remember when I was on my grandmothers farm, they specifically kept the rooster away from all the hens so he wouldn't mate with them. It was a hassle, so they eventually had the rooster fixed. Not to be gross or anything, but it's the same thing when a woman is on her period. When an egg is released and there is no sperm to fertilize it, it's not going to be a baby and the women won't become pregnant. I didn't meant to sound so graphic, but it was the best example I could think of.
Janice 11-04-2003, 12:07 AM Thanks InspectorExstead and Kristina for the advice on the different types of being a vegetarian. Chicken is about the only thing I would miss, but now I know there are options.
Btw, I didn't watch the clip at the beginning of this thread. No way. ohno:

Yea, I mean a hen isn't going to give birth to 12 chicks a day for 365 days if you really think about it. Now if you live on a farm and have a couple of roosters who aren't fixed, you really have to watch them, or keep them seperated from the hens, cause everyone knows how males are...human or non-human.
And I had to use that analogy. It was the only one I could think of at the time that had a similar relationship. :p
