View Full Version : City and State?? jcardenas 10-22-2003, 05:22 PM Where the heck DID they live? hawaii five-o 10-22-2003, 07:08 PM They never say on the show, but they live somewhere in the Los Angeles area. Brady Fan 10-23-2003, 12:32 PM Yea it's in California, I think I read somewhere it was Sana Monica (sp?) Tweety 10-28-2003, 07:37 AM In the episode where Jan receives the locket, the address given is 4222 Clinton Way, City... Obviously, they didn't want to identify a particular city as the Brady's residence. However, someone (I don't remember if it was here on this site or perhaps on the Jump The Shark site) has pointed out that back in those days, in many areas, you could put "City" on a letter, and the Post Office would assume that the letter was intended for delivery in the same city in which it was mailed. If that's true, it was a pretty clever way to avoid naming an actual city. But the Bradys definitely lived somewhere in California, near Los Angeles. SKay 10-28-2003, 05:38 PM Actually, I think Peter was the one who said that it must have been mailed from the city where they lived since it just had City in the address. richheart 11-07-2003, 12:43 PM Santa Monica sounds like the most probable place. - Near the beach. - Near the movie studios, where they spend the day with cousin Oliver. - Not too big. Greg claimed to have searched the entire side of the town on his bicycle to search for Jan's boyfriend, George Glass. Pug Lover 11-07-2003, 02:28 PM I know that the house we see as the exterior,is 11222 Dilling Street, which is located right in the Hollywood area.So that partly leads me to believe that the Bradys live in Los Angeles. They must surely live in Southern California at least, because we,ve never seen it snow in their nieghborhood. Vegas Girl 11-07-2003, 02:31 PM I never got the part about Greg saying "There's no George Glass in this part of town". It's not like they live in a tiny rural town. How could he check the names of every kid in LA? JM2 12-01-2003, 05:40 AM Originally posted by Vegas Girl I never got the part about Greg saying "There's no George Glass in this part of town". It's not like they live in a tiny rural town. How could he check the names of every kid in LA? I grew up in the LA area when this show was filmed and when we talked about 'town'. We always meant the particular subburb we lived in. So, to live in LA, as we sometimes refered to our town to outsiders, we all lived in suberbia. Like my town had a population of 10,000 , where the next town over had about 20,000. You all know the towns I am talking about...Newport Beach, Torrence, Lakewood, Redondo Beach, Sana Monica and even Orange County is the same way. So, Greg could actually know about his part of town as I did mine in my childhood. But I seem to remember them living in Northern CA. JM2  TV Guy 12-01-2003, 06:10 PM It was a suburb of Los Angeles. In "A Very Brady Christmas", Alice goes to the airport to pick up some of the kids, and the airport is very clearly LAX. jcardenas 12-07-2003, 03:54 PM hmmm...... I just saw something that clicked in my head. That episode where Greg buys the junky car from his friend then tries to resell it to someone else. He says something to his dad along the lines of " You'll never see anything better like this on this side of Indianapolis"? What could he mean by that? Greg was likely comparing his car to an Indianapolis 500 (aka "Indy 500") race car. Indianapolis is where the Indy 500 (and a few others, such as the Brickyard 400) are run. jcardenas 12-07-2003, 10:52 PM Yeah, I know what Indy racing is..and I thought of that but I was also thinking that might have been a clue or something. Oh well, maybe we'll never know. jehobden 01-15-2004, 03:08 AM The original series never gave a hometown, but several clues came out, such as the closeness of the beach and a movie studio (which was of course actually Paramount standing in for the phony movie studio). The Bradys pretty well confirmed that it was the LA area, since Cindy was a DJ at KBLA radio, or some similar-named station. sixfingers 05-24-2008, 10:13 PM The original series never gave a hometown, but several clues came out, such as the closeness of the beach and a movie studio (which was of course actually Paramount standing in for the phony movie studio). Also in Kelly's Kids they said they were out west and in Dear Libby they said Farmington Illinois was 2000 miles away (an approximation no doubt!). treky 05-24-2008, 11:27 PM I don't know what city it was, but I seem to remember them mentioning Calif. once or twice. Tweety 05-25-2008, 04:48 AM There were many California sports references mentioned on the show. Deacon Jones played for the Los Angeles Rams until 1971, then for the San Diego Chargers until 1973. He made an appearance on the show (when Peter was playing football while singing in the glee club). That episode aired in 1971. Wes Parker of the Los Angeles Dodgers was dating Greg's math teacher, and promised Greg two tickets to the season opener if Greg managed to bring his math grade up to an "A". Parker's entire career was spent with the L.A. Dodgers before retiring in 1972. The math episode aired in 1970. Don Drysdale spent his entire career with the Dodgers, retiring in 1969. The Drysdale episode aired in 1970. In the episode in which Greg judges the head cheerleader contest, Peter and Bobby are arguing in one scene as to whether Roman Gabriel's passing average was better than Joe Namath's. Gabriel was the L.A. Rams Quarterback. Although Joe Namath was quarterbacking the New York Jets during the entire run of the Brady Bunch, he appeared in an episode when he was "in town" for the big exhibition game. Wilt Chamberlain was mentioned 2 or 3 times on the show as well. Chamberlain played for the Los Angeles Lakers from the 68-69 NBA season until his retirement from basketball in 1973. But he lived in L.A. for the rest of his life. I think it was Chamberlain who signed the basketball given to one of the boys by Aunt Jenny... both Wilt and Aunt Jenny were world travelers, so there's no telling how, where or when they became friends. Wilt was mentioned as a possible "good role model" for Bobby in the Jesse James episode. And in the Joe Namath episode, one of Bobby's friends said his father was on an elevator with Wilt. SKay 05-25-2008, 02:20 PM In the Snow White episode, Cindy said she wanted to tell her dad about the play "from Florida" so they had to have been far from Florida. James 05-26-2008, 10:40 PM Also in Kelly's Kids they said they were out west and in Dear Libby they said Farmington Illinois was 2000 miles away (an approximation no doubt!). Actually, I think they said Kingsford, Illinois, as in the charcoal! I do not believe a Kingsford, Illinois, exists in reality--did this escape Robert Reed? There is, however, a Farmington, Illinois, west of Peoria where Highways 116 and 78 meet. sixfingers 03-28-2010, 06:10 PM Actually, I think they said Kingsford, Illinois, as in the charcoal! You're right, it did say Kingsford. Also, I believe it is a fictitious city, like "San Pueblo, CA" where the Partridge family lived. BTW, did you notice how the newspaper being read by Marcia looked really old and yellowed even though it was supposed to be that day's edition? Smartboy 03-29-2010, 08:18 PM While we are on the topic of fictional towns and cities, let us give honorable mention to Glanlawn, California where the Kinisky's from "Gimme a Break!" hung their hats! |
