CHEER UP!
Czas na Zywiec 10-15-2003, 01:30 AM Suicide - Noun. A permanent solution to a temporary problem.
I hate these kinds of posts. Anyway, don't do it. Life always gets better. I've had my lows, (Major, extreme lows), but now I'm on top of the world. It always gets better, and suicide is not the answer. You'll cause more grief to your family and friends in the longrun if you kill yourself than if you stick it up until it gets better. Trust me, I've known many people who commited suicide and have seen what it's done to their loved ones.
Lady T 10-15-2003, 01:32 AM Hey honey...be strong...it is always the darkest before the dawn...life has many roads and some are bad but most of the time they are good... :bighug:
MonarC 10-15-2003, 01:33 AM I wish you would try to be positive and try to see the good things in your life. Why do you fight with loved ones. Try to get to the root of the problem. Calmly try to feel like everything is just blown up in your head cause your depressed. It's hard to see a way out of it cause your not thinking straight. But you really do need to talk to someone about it and get them to help you feel better. You would hurt a lot of people if you killed yourself! :( and people need you. You have a purpose in life. Don't end it! :) You can talk to us. We are your friends... :)
Bugiddle 10-15-2003, 02:49 AM JoCool,
I know things seem bleak right now. Many of us have thought about ending it all, but things do get better. I know how suicide affects family members. No matter what you think about your family members, I am sure they do love you , they just may not be good at showing it. They and your friends will feel so terrible if they lose you! I know - I have lost a sister this way, and the guilt and pain are awful.
PLEASE look in the phone book right now and find a suicide hotline and call it. You need to talk to a trained person right now. Then, you need to go to the doctor and get started on anti-depressants to help you feel less depressed. Talk to your school counselor (if you are still in school - I don't know how old you are) or another trained counselor. There are some you can find with a sliding fee scale through your city's social services if cost is an issue.
If you are a spiritual or religious person, you should also talk to you religious leader.
I know I sound like a mother, but I do know that these are the steps you need to take in order to help you feel better and just function day-to-day until you feel your life is getting better.
Take care and remember that there are MANY people who care about what happens to you. If we, total strangers to you, care this much, how much more must your family and friends care about you? :)
Please check in tomorrow and let us know how things are going!
Hollow 10-15-2003, 02:59 AM I know how you feel.. i think the only reason i havent killed myself is because of my mom, i loved her so much and i wouldnt wanna disappoint her. and also because of my brother. we've been the best of friends our whole lives, i dont know what he wold do without me, i mean itd be so different for him. i always think about killing myself to get revenge for my dad and show him that's how much i hate him. i think about writing suicide notes to him that say things like "happy?" or "you win" just to let him know i killed myself because of him so he could feel bad for the rest of his life. several months ago he pissed me off so bad i got scissors and slashed up my arms just to scare him. and it worked. if he pisses me off like that again i'll prolly do it again. it's not like im gonna die. i'm also thinking about threatening to kill myself when i get mad at him just so he'll learn how to respect me. i mean he calls me a whore because i wear shirts that show half an inch of my stomach when i put my arms up. and im not whining about ***** things like curfews, i mean hes just flatout mean to me. he favors my brother and treats him so much more better. if something ever happens that we dont see (like if we went in the kitchen and saw juice spilled on the floor) and my brother says he didnt do it, he blames it on me, and if i say it wasnt me he calls "liar" for the next while. a few months ago he slapped me and grabbed my face and slammed it on my bed.. then completely denied it when i told my counselor. and what i find funny is that hes been a total jackass to me since right after my mom died, like he's hated me my whole life an has been holding it in. but i'm stuck with him for the next 4 years or so and when i move out and become a model i'm never speaking to him again. thats one thing thats been keeping me from commiting suicide, the fact that when im 18 i can move out and live my own life. make it better. im also taking paxil (addicted to it at that) and it helps. and ive been trying to stay away from my dad pretty much 24/7. i dont want him in my life, he just makes it worse and does nothing to help make it better.

I dont feel bad for the people who dont attempt to help themselves.. instead they choose to cop out and end it. No ones life is perfect and if youre having issues talk to someone (not a bunch of kiddies.. but a professional who can get you the help you need) and try to turn your life around. How old are you if I may ask? Is life that bad? Dont let a bunch of small things turn into one big thing.. try to solve each problem one at a time not all at once. You are being slightly harsh by saying you have no sympathy for the suicidal. I have been in JoCool's situation many times in my life so I can understand how awful it feels.
You do offer some good advice though. If Jo really does feel suicidal then he/she (sorry Jo - I don't think I know your real name) should seek professional help. Venting to people on a message board may make things easier for a short time but if you want to get to the real root of the problem you need to talk to someone who can really help you.
I know this is gonna sound contrived Jo but please, please don't give up. Things do get better - even if right now it seems like you have no hope and no way out. I know cos I've been where you are now. But now my life is really starting to go somewhere and I'm glad that I didn't give up when things were at their worst.
You may feel like noone wants you around but you did say that you have 2 very good friends. Talk to them and I'm sure they'll be able to offer you the support you need. Never underestimate your friends. Today I confided in a friend of mine even though I was sure that what I had to tell her would hurt our friendship. In fact, it actually brought us closer.
I wish you all the best Jo. Please, please don't give up.

x x I know its harsh, and Im sorry.. but thats how I feel. If someone I knew committed suicide I would feel bad for the death.. but not for the cause of death. I have always felt that suicide is a cheap way out and the wrong answer- no matter what your problems may be. I, personally, have never been depressed so its hard for me put myself in someones shoes. Im a generally happy and optimistic person, so my points of view may not be the best. Even if it may not seem so, things do get better, like you said.

One of my good friends commited suicide a little over two years ago. It devestated so many people, many of my friends went through serious bouts with depression after her death because they began blaming themselves, her family has yet to get past that.
Suicide doesnt solve anything, everyone goes through lows and its better to just learn how to deal with it instead of look for the easy way out.
For an understatement of the year: suicide and even threatening suicide just isn't cool
Kay Scarpetta 10-15-2003, 10:07 PM You'll regret it. I know that's hard to comprehend, because you'd be dead, but once you jump off that bridge, or swallow that bottle of pills, the first thought that will come into your head is "What the hell am I doing?" Trust me. I've been there way too many times.
Please think about it. Find one person you absolutely trust with your life, and that you love with all your heart. And I don't mean a romantic love either. I know I definitely found my person. Sure, she may not always be at my side like during school and at home, but I know I can always call her or go and see her, and she'll always be there for me. One person is all it takes. Everytime I just want to end everything, I think of her, and that stops me. I love her too much to do that to her. Love is what saved me.
I wish you good luck, but please, consider my words.

spunkygirl 10-16-2003, 03:44 AM There were times when I was younger that I felt like commiting suicide but I didn't. I love my family too much to do that to them, and I know someone who commited suicide for what seems now not a good reason. His family is still devestated 7 years later.
Suicide solves nothing. There are people out there who are alot worse off than any of us will ever be, and they don't commit suicide, they try to make their lives better.
Sorry but IMO suicide is just a cowardly way out. May I ask what is so bad that you would contemplate suicide?

Life gets better, but hey if you wanna cop out and kill yourself then alrighty. What can I do about it?

Try talking to a counseler or psychiatrist, they wouldn't think you're crazy. they chose to devote their time helping people like you. and if you do see if they have any anti depressants you can take, my psychiatrist suggested i take paxil and it helps.

Yeah, Paxil doesn't even work with OCD really so Zoloft is best for me. Paxil gave me inflamation around my heart, worst pain I ever had in my life. And then I thought it was a different medication I was on and when I got off the heart pills I started taking Paxil and dumped Zyprexa. My psych told me it was that because they never heard of Paxil doing that and then when I took Paxil again I had to go back to the emergency to get more heart medication. If I would have left my heart like that it could have killed me but I was just in too much pain not to go to the emergency. I hated the emergency though, I was in the waiting room screaming and crying in pain and everyone else was sniffling every 10 minutes from the flu, it took HOURS for me to be seen by a doctor.

We all go through rough times...but those times may seem even rougher for you, since you have depression. A lot of people on this board are understanding and don't think you're crazy. You can always talk to us. We will listen. Things may seem like they are crashing down around you right now, but things will be better and you will be better. You will be stronger and greater things will come for you because you made it through it. You just have to believe that.
LucyFan 10-16-2003, 10:17 PM Jocool,
I suggest you don't end your life because of the problems. Think about the cool things you will missing that life generally offers to a person like a family, children or a child, ect. Don't end it just because you feel real low. Try to get help as quickly as possible and I'm sure you will have a chance to recover. Most importantly, have faith in God and believe in yourself! Good luck!
DetectiveGriffin 10-16-2003, 10:20 PM For a lot of people, you wont believe how much antidepressants can help. I couldnt even get out of bed without prozac, my depression got so bad. Even if it seems bad now, one day you will not remember what you were upset about.
Please get some help soon.

Insomnia is my middle name. Sometimes I know why I don't sleep. I have a lot of stuff on my mind, I've had a bad day, I have very disturbing dreams, etc... but other times, when I'm just having a 'normal' night, I'm still up. Sometimes I get 2 hours of sleep a night.

My insomnia started when I was 5 years old. I was very depressed, but then I began seeing a therapist and was put on anti depressants. Even though I'm not depressed anymore, I still have to struggle with it.
If you're looking for a therapist, you may have to take a lot of time to find the right one for you. He/She should be someone you can trust with everything. If not a therapist, a family friend or a school councelor. It took a while, but I found one. I know what it's like to have been in your shoes.. I spent a long time there, and it's scary. I wish you so much luck, Jo.

Yep. I couldn't sleep for awhile. Once I went on Paxil, it went away. Of course that stuff causes drowsiness...I love it.

I'm on this dang board at 2am, what does that tell you? ;) But I've always had trouble sleeping though. I've had clinical depression - and it's certainly nothing to be ashamed of. I went through all of it in highschool - fighting with everyone I ran into, yelling at my parents, not sleeping, not caring about the future... been there.
Going into counseling is the best thing I ever did for myself. They don't think you're crazy - they are there to listen to what it is that is bothering you and try to help. I never had to go on perscription drugs, fortunately. But ending your life is such a rediculous thing to do - it doesn't solve anything. Please, get some professional help - and let us know how you're doing!

Insomnia is a sign of depression. i dont think ive had it or had it though since i sleep so much. i can pretty fall asleep at any time of the day. but if i'm not tired at night i take a sleeping pill.
The Modfather 10-17-2003, 07:27 AM I have minor depression. I mean, I have a happy life. I like my parents (most of the time) but sometimes I just feel sad for no reason. I think you need to talk to a counselor and your family and see if you can get qualified help - it is good that you are talking to people willing to understand and listen here, but if you want real help, you need a real doctor.

never complains, and she is never low on life. JoCool - I've had plenty of insomnia and loads of depression. My insomnia lasted a full four years. I fought with sleep. Now I read every night before I go to bed and I fall fast asleep. (I even tried to count sheep (?)). :sheep
As for depression it's a chemical inbalance missing in the brain and YES I have it. I went to the doctor and got help. Now I count my blessings and it doesn't hurt that I seek Jesus. Good Luck JoCool!!!

I have trouble sleeping a lot of the time but it was a lot worse when I was depressed- I have this thing called cyclothymic disorder that causes real extremes in moods triggered by anything- meds help balance it and its ok now, but i still have terrible insomnia. If I sleep for a couple hours every other night I'm doing well.

It's called calling a bluff. JoCool, if you're really contemplating suicide would you really spend months talking about it online? I hope you get help, but it's really unfair to keep bringing this up to us, when we have no power at all to help you. You gotta help yourself.

Anyway Why do you want to commit suicide. No offence but i do think its a bit ludicrous posting such bizarre comments on a sitcoms messageboard??
You'd be better off talking to a therapist?

Most people who want to kill themselves just do it, this girl has been discussing it for months!
Nanny Fine 10-20-2003, 08:33 AM Perhaps when something happens that brings you near death you stop and reevaluate things in your life. Maybe that's what she needs. I think suicide is stupid. I've gone through so much **** in my lifetime (and enough for another person too) and never, not once, did I EVER think suicide was the answer. I'm messed up but I"m not that messed up.
My car exploded and burned up on Saturday night. MOMENTS and I mean seconds later the car started exploding (the battery, etc) while we watched. My LITTLE GIRL was in that car. We could have still been in that car. We are very lucky to be alive.
And if you've posted before this is what you want to do...it's called crying wolf and people are not going to care. At all.

If she wants to kill herself bad enough she would have already done it, but alas here she is only seeking pity for her so-called "problems". Her parents not "loving" her, she's a young kid and all little kids think that in their life. Would she still be alive if her parents didn't love her? They had to have had some love for her to still be taking care of her and feeding her. And even thinking about suicide is SELFISH! Imagine how her family would feel to find her dead, I'm sure it's something they would never get over in their lives.
Suicide isn't a joke, she said she wanted to kill herself and didn't. Therefore making a mockery of suicide. She's still alive so I take it she doesn't have it that bad.

Exactly what I think. Everybody's had their moments where they feel unloved and alone. It's life. As my mother always says whenever I complain: "Tell it to your therapist."
Hershey 10-21-2003, 04:09 PM For those of you telling her to get on w\it...stop and THINK!!! Maybe she's been telling ppl here at SO that she's going to kill herself becuz she doesnt have anyone else to talk to! Besides one day u could feel like killing urself then the next you'll find just one little thing that u want to hold on to that makes u live that one more day. If your sucical at one point in ur life, you'll proablly be again...its a proven fact...teachers have told my health class this. SO she may not be suicidal....there is a reason for her saying that is. I'd call it a cry for help. Maybe she just wants some help or ppl to talk to.
JoCool~if u are thinking about doing it, ill tell you one thing; DONT!!! U watch The Division right? Well here's a quote that I think'll do u some good:"Killing yourself is easy. It's the sticking around that takes courage." Jinny said that to the kid who was gonna shoot himself. I compeletly agree with that quote. Killing urself is the simple way out of ur problems and im sry to say this but IMO it means ur a wuss and cant take wut's coming at u. I know you may and probally are dealing w\ some tough s#it but if you couldnt take it then God wouldnt be dishing out to ya. So stick w\it......however old u are (ive seen 12-24) all those ages are way way to young to die. You dont want to die...u just want out of this s#itty spot....ur going to have to work and get some professional help about it. You dont have to tell neone u dont want to...just call a hotline or find a shrink and just schedule an appointment and talk it out. You have to make it work...you have to work at it. Yeah everyone has their ups and downs...i have mine but i dont want to end my life becuz of them...thats rash. I want to grow up and have a life. I dont want to die a teenager. I want to go to college and play softball and basketball and hang out w\my friends. What is it that you want to live for? There's got ot be one thing that's keeping u here....live 4 that.:"Killing yourself is easy. It's the sticking around that takes courage."

I've been through suicidal stages in my life and almost killed myself, I know I'll never feel that again because I'm stronger than I was before. I still have pain but I'm not as weak, I've been through ALOT of tough **** in my life. Multiple disorders, abuse, etc. so my life isn't exactly perfect. Her problems don't seem as severe as mine were and are because I still have disorders but ya know my views on life have completly changed. I never asked anyone to help me, that's just asking for attention. I got through things by myself and I never mentioned anything about this on SO at the times it was happening because it is completly irrelevant. I don't need people to feel pity for me.
I have felt suicidal before, but this girls' problems just seem... mediocre. LOL. So, maybe I shouldn't be in a position to judge since I've felt suicidal but I never looked for pity like her, on a situation comedy message board. And no, I had nobody to turn to. I think she needs to decide for HERSELF whether or not she wants to go on living, because it's not up to us.

That's exactly what i'm trying to say! Expressing how you feel on a message board does help you feel better. one day about a year ago i was extremely depressed and even suicidal because i didnt take paxil that day (it turns out i was addicted to it) and i posted a topic to vent, does that mean i just wanted people to say "omg lyk no dont kill urself we all wuv u!"? making conclusions after she posted 2 topics (or at least thats all ive seen) that shes looking for attention is ****ing stupid. who cares if shes been suicidal for months? does she have to kill herself right away? thats just full of ****. killing yourself is a huge decision, maybe shes just unsure if she wants to do it or not (and i hope she ends up choosing to live.) how is she not "acting her age" by being suicidal anyway? ANYONE can be suicidal disregard their age. and just because you wouldnt be depressed just because youre 24 and your parents dont love you doesnt mean she cant be. everyone's feelings are different.

Not to be a bitch but who are you to say that asking for help is looking for attention? If thats the case then would you be asking for attention when you asked help on ANYTHING? Getting help is pretty much the only way to overcome depression, whether it be seeing a psychiatrist or taking an antidepressant or anything that helps. this is the internet but theres nothing wrong with asking some people for advice in case they recommend treatments or have links to websites about suicide or something. and her problems may seem mediocre to you but that doesnt mean they cant upset her that much, maybe shes more sensitive, and if she is she cant help it.

Well, ya know I meant HELP on a messageboard. And yes medicine and seeing a psychiatrist can help but SHE has to be the one to decide things for herself, nobody can make up her mind for her. My OCD and Depression can be treated, so why take my own life over something that is repairable? There can still be mental damage like for people who were raped and/or abused, but there's something called moving on. You never forget, but life does go on.
And it's not that I think depression is mediocre, because it is a serious thing, I even have it. But it IS something that can be treated.

I agree with Sarah. Most often when people say "I want to die" they really mean "Please help me, I want to live." Not everyone's threshhold for pain is the same and a problem that rolls off of one person's back can make another person feel hopeless. Who are we to judge what amount of turmoil one person can stand? I personally don't believe suicide is the answer either and I'm not saying we can fix her problems but we can offer sound advice or simply wishing her good luck working things out wouldn't hurt her or us for that matter. Jmo.

I agree with Sarah here. It may be easier for her to talk to people on here than in real life. I honestly feel like she needed people to lift her up and counsel her, not try to riducule her. You're not in her exact same situation. Depression treats people differently. Her mindset may be different than yours and she may not see asking for help as asking for attention. That's what you're supposed to do. Ask for help when you need it, and maybe she needed help.

She didn't ask anyone to decide for her whether to kill herself. she asked for HELP. and thinking "it could be worse" hardly helps anything, just because you're not at maximum grief doesnt help the fact that you're already depressed. yes depression can be treated but some people might not have anyone to talk to or treat them. if someone is depressed becausethey were raped or abused they might be able to move on but not whenever they feel like it. some people might not ever be able to get over it.

YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET HELP ON A MESSAGE BOARD. There is nobody I know of here who is a psychiatrist, the most people can do is say 'don't kill yourself!'. And thinking it could be worse does help, take one person who is depressed because they think nobody loves them and then take a 5 year old with cancer or somebody who can't see/hear. Her talking about taking her life is selfish, I'm sure there's somebody who loves her and cares about her. And she's been talking about suicide for months, I think it's time she sees a psychiatrist, that IS somebody she could turn to for help. I've been to one (forced) and have hundreds of medicines, not that I take them but still... there is something that can be done and if she really wants to do something about it then I suggest she stop bitching about it at a message board and get off her ass to see a psychiatrist.

You could get SOME help on a message board, it wont cure your problems 100% but if someone has links to a site about suicide like the one i posted or if they recommend any treatments it could help. and thinking it could be worse MIGHT help some people but not all of em, everyone thinks differently.
