View Full Version : What if?
Brian Damage 10-03-2003, 10:32 AM What if some of the original Seinfeld ideas were not scrapped would it still be successful? For instance, what if the show was still called the Seinfeld Chronicles? or What if they would've kept Jerry's monolouge and prologue in the show? What else?....
TheMaestro 10-03-2003, 12:05 PM What if Susan would not have died?
wickthayer 10-03-2003, 02:16 PM I dont think the name change would have made much of a difference. We would refer to it as Seinfeld as shorthand. Same with the standup routine, although Jerry would have had to have kept coming up with fresh material, I think he used his whole act on the shows. Susan alive and married would have been difficult to deal with, George could not be George if he was married.
What if George or Kramer left the show after the third season for contract or other reasons, would it have been a hit still?
Brian Damage 10-03-2003, 02:34 PM What if they used the original Frank and Morty.
Maestro 10-03-2003, 03:31 PM Title change: no big- agree w/ previous.
Monologs: I hated to see them diminish.
I'd think those were lessened/dumped by public pressure and the ratings watchers. We SeinNerds know Jer's whole show was based on his act, but the Nielson public probably demanded more of a "sitcom" format. The show got less chronicly & less "about nothing" as the years went on. It got more out there, crazy characters, forced buzz words & the whole expected sitcom thang... "not that there was anything wrong with that."
Waxing Susan: gad... what took so long (even though I think George could play it married, his schtick could remain close to same & I rarely disagree w/ wyck :) )
Kramer leaving: ouch, that would prob hurt.
I think the 4 had one of "those chemistrys" that would be hard to recreate, the whole right time/right place thing. I know [real] Jer had it goin' on anyway right before the show launched, that 4 person chemistry made it happen as a sitcom.
Orig Frank & not Jerry Stiller: also bad, but the not a deal breaker. The show would have rolled on, but with Jerry Stiller developing the "Frank" [+ the Frank & Estelle interplay] character, it fills out the show, giving it those extra layers of quality. Stiller's "Frank" & Estelle Harris' "Estelle" were a great element of the show.
Orig Morty: Many character actors could pull it off. We never would have noticed.
btw: the orig "Morty," actor Phil Bruns was good, I think he would have made a great Jer dad, maybe better than Barney Martin.

What if The Finale(s) #179/180 were just another epi, & not the big bizarro world production they were?
Maestro 10-03-2003, 03:31 PM ... gosh... what a SeinRambler...
sinatrastar 10-03-2003, 04:10 PM That was really a SeinSchpiel there Maestro ;) , but interesting reading. Without Kramer/George I think Newman would have been more involved maybe even becoming closer with Jerry and hanging out with the gang? :eek2:
The marriage would have been a tough sell in terms of getting George out of the house everyday to hang out with the others. And if Susan was so rich why was she in that little apartment with George?
Seinfeld Chronicles sounds like the Martian Chronicles which used to scare the hell out of me (the movie) and I therefore dont like that name.
Brian Damage 10-03-2003, 04:14 PM What if Elaine was never written on to the show?
sinatrastar 10-03-2003, 09:25 PM One of the guys would have needed a steady love interest, or some other female involved.
What if Larry David had never left?
WeMissTripper 10-03-2003, 11:00 PM What if Jerry and George moved in together?
Brian Damage 10-04-2003, 11:02 AM What if Claire the waitress the the pilot episode became a regular character?
sinatrastar 10-04-2003, 12:42 PM What if Claire the waitress the the pilot episode became a regular character?
The show would have been more boring, they made the right decision to drop her.
What if Elaine would have been played by Bea Arthur?
Brian Damage 10-04-2003, 01:22 PM Lol Bea Arthur and David Puddy....A match made in heaven.
sinatrastar 10-04-2003, 02:21 PM What if David Alexander played Kramer (with a funky hair hat/wig) and Michael Richards played George?
Brian Damage 10-04-2003, 02:32 PM What if Elaine and Jerry never broke up?
sinatrastar 10-04-2003, 02:51 PM I would be jeolous ;)
Brian Damage 10-04-2003, 02:55 PM What if they stayed at Pete's Lunchonette and not moved on to Monk's.

No difference.
Brian Damage 10-04-2003, 02:59 PM The setting sucked though.
Brian Damage 10-04-2003, 03:00 PM What if the Kramer character remained as its original idea and never left the apartment building?
sinatrastar 10-04-2003, 03:03 PM He would not have been as funny. More of a sad hermit character.
Brian Damage 10-04-2003, 03:04 PM Got any meat?
sinatrastar 10-04-2003, 09:19 PM What if Jerry would have been picked up by a minor network (so the gang wasnt filthy rich) and continued to be a running story line?
Brian Damage 10-05-2003, 12:09 PM I would've liked to see that.
sinatrastar 10-05-2003, 12:10 PM They could periodically go to the set and interact with the Jerry characters.
Brian Damage 10-05-2003, 12:22 PM What if the Seinfelds and the Costanzas were spun off onto their own show? Detailing their adventures in Del Boca Vista.
sinatrastar 10-05-2003, 12:28 PM That is acually a good idea. Frank v. Morty on the condo board, the Seinfeld siblings we have never seen come by to visit. Like a hipper version of the Golden Girls. Title - Sunset Years
Brian Damage 10-05-2003, 12:33 PM I like it.
DarwinEx 10-05-2003, 12:39 PM What if Frank and Estelle really got divorced? Any impact?
sinatrastar 10-05-2003, 12:40 PM Not much.
Brian Damage 10-05-2003, 12:41 PM It would make for some interesting storylines that's for sure.
DarwinEx 10-05-2003, 12:42 PM Yes they could be dating other crazy characters.
DarwinEx 10-05-2003, 12:42 PM George's mom on a date - yikes.
Brian Damage 10-05-2003, 12:44 PM Well she did date that Bra salesman.
TheMaestro 10-05-2003, 07:41 PM She was going to, but Frank wouldnt let it happen.
TheMaestro 10-05-2003, 07:42 PM What if Jerry would have gone through with his engagement?
sinatrastar 10-06-2003, 11:32 AM Good question, he would probably have pulled a George trying to get out of the wedding.
