Hi all Lucy fans! Yes, I really am Stevie Appleby(from the Superman Episode). I just found this web site and really enjoy reading all the comments about the show. I'll be in and out but when I'm in I will happily answer any questions about my memories of being on the set of the show...........

OK-first of all for "SPLAIN": "I wanna see Superman! I wanna see Superman!" Howz that? Yes it really IS me. For years I have been reluctant to come forward but now that there so few of us left who were involved with the show I thought it was time. For "DAWSONGIRL": Thanks for the welcome & for "LUCYLOVER22": your question will take time to answer. Unfortunately I'm an extremely busy man but I will answer your question very soon--please be patient. In a nutshell it was coller than you could imagine and the memories are irreplaceable. I consider myself very fortunate to have had that opportunity. When I have more time I will come back and tell you more............

Yep, that's Stevie all right, welcome to the site and come and see us on the other sites too, like Lucy Talk and The Lucy Lounge and The I Love Lucille Ball Forum and Babalu's Lucy site and . . . the one question i have for you, was when did you start working as a child actor, did you fall into that trap that so many of them went through, how was Lucy to work with, was she a terror on the set as some would have us believe, how was Desi, did you play and study on the set, did you keep working in the business and what do you do now, you see, only one question!

Oh my God! I didn't realize I was opening such a can of worms. I'm not ready to write my biography but I will share the memories of that five year old kid (me) in bits and pieces. There are a few memories of Doris that really stand out.
I know that she was a patient person because it took a lot of coaxing to get me to deliver my lines in a somewhat coherent manner. I wasn't used to the bright lights and if you look closely you will notice that I am looking off stage for direction (maybe towards my mother?). Doris seemed to have a problem with one of her lines (when on the phone with Lucy). The writers didn't give her time to take a breath during a run-on sentence. She thought it was very awkward and I still cringe every time I see it. From here on I will pick memories of each actor-one per post until I run out. Does that make sense? Bye for now......

Hi y'all, I'm back for a couple of days then I'm gone again all next week on a business trip. To answer some questions-I'm now 52. I had a part in the movie Giant before I did "I Love Lucy". I played the son of Rock Hudson & Elizabeth Taylor at age 3 or 4 (the kid crying on the horse). Many awsome memories. After Lucy I auditioned for Dennis the Menace but obviously lost out to Jay North. After that I had a pretty normal life. I was a radio personality for 27 years, program director, and local host of the M. D. telethon for about 5 years. Then I returned to our family owned furniture business which is where I am today. That's enough about me. In my next post I will return to talking about memories of I Love Lucy.

If my etiquet (sp?) is improper please excuse me. I really do have some killer stories to relate but if enough people express a lot of frustration with me it may be best if I just fade away. P. OK I now have some time to share a memory with you. Somebody had asked me about Desi. I saw very little of him on the set. One thing I do remember is that he had either Kieth or Desi Jr. practicing on the drums whenever nothing was going on. There was a small area to the right of the kitchen where this occurred. Please remember that I was five years old and knew nothing about the show. That is why I can't quite remember which kid was practicing. Vivian Vance-nothing stands out in my memory about her. Bill Frawley-the first time I saw him was when he and Vivian were rehearsing one of their scenes. I thought he was loud, gruff and scary. Watch very carefully the scene when he and Ethel are playing London Bridges with us kids. You'll notice that as I walk under their arms I stare up at Fred. I was scared to death of that man! I was afraid to turn my back on him. More to come..............

OK-I'm back. Sorry to keep you guys hanging on for so long. I'm saving the best for last so today I want to share my memories of "Superman" (George Reeves). I recall that he was very fond of us kids. He had little gatherings with us and gave each of us a Superman costume. You can see Keith wearing his in one of the scenes. Unfortunately our house burnt down shortly after that and mine was lost:crying: They had a helluva time setting up his entrance through the shutters seperating the kitchen with the living room. They had some kind of a pole rigged up in the kitchen and he had to swing on it like on a monkey bar so that he would enter the living room feet first. During a rehearsal they had the table with the birthday cake too close and he swung right into it. What a mess! Too bad there are no copies of the outtakes..........

Lucy was the consumate business woman on the set. Paid attention to every detail. She sometimes came across as tough but everyone understood her mission. Had she not had that passion the show wouldn't have became the icon it was. She apparently took an interest in me because one day she took time out from her busy schedule to teach me a little bit about the magic of television. Must keep these theads concise so I will give the details in my next post. Remember I'm willing to answer any specific questions you may have.

Of course by "magic" I meant special effects. One day while she was rehearsing her scene out on the ledge with the pigeons she called me over and propped me up on the ledge with her. (The ledge set was located off to the left of the bedroom set.) While we were standing approximately two feet off the ground, she splained to me that when they show this scene on TV they will edit in film looking way down at the street thus making it appear that she is dangerously high up on the building ledge. Who knows why she did that-but it is something that I will never forget. Now you've heard all my off hand recollections. Questions from y'all may help bring out more so I'll look in from time to time otherwise bye for now...........

Sorry-no autographs as I don't consider myself to be a celebrity. I would feel very silly doing it. But on that subject, I've noticed that on an other thread someone was asking whether the autographs they bought were authentic. I may be able to help but as usual it may take awhile. You see my mother went around the set and got everybody's autographs. So I know mine ARE the real thing. I'm not sure where they are after all these years but I know I still have them somewhere. I will find them when I get time and post my opinion on that thread ASAP.

Glad you got it Juli. I'm going by Stevie here because everybody else is using "handles" instead of their real names. My real name IS Steve but my last name is not really Kay-just a stage name. And yes I'm the Steve Kay in "Giant". If you run a Google search using the words lucy and superman you'll come accross the cast of the show listing me as Steven Kay. (Not to mention a picture of me being pushed out the door by Carolyn.) Having said that how do I know that I'm not just some guy that found that name and decided to say I'm Stevie Appleby! I think I'm not real. I don't trust me!! But seriously folks I'd love to talk about Giant but is that appropriate here?
