I hate to report this, since most of us "Wings" fans don't seem to like Roseanne. But Pavanbadal posted it in the Roseanne board. So this is another slap in the face to the life and times of Adam Hauck (That's Me).

Oh, GREAT! Just one more nail in the coffin for "Wings" on NICK! The success of "Roseanne" makes the reportedly-poor showing of "Wings" on NICK even MORE apparent (and gives more justification for NICK banishing the show to an overnight, graveyard timeslot or getting of the show altogether)!

This whole "Wings on NICK" fiasco was doomed from Day #1 (although I really don't know why)....It reminds me of someone who is hired for a job, or a couple that gets married, and you just KNOW that the chemistry isn't right, and it's not going to work out.
It doesn't mean that there's anything WRONG with either of the parties involved, but things just don't "click"....I can't help but feel that that's what happened with "Wings'" stay on NICK.....at least when "Wings" was on USA, the show was treated as a welcomed and important part of the cable network!

That SHOULD read: "Getting RID of the show altogether"....Sorry!

I think Viacom should just send "Wings" to Spike TV and show it with "Star Trek TNG".
At least it might get a good timeslot where I can edit out the commercials.

I think Wings is just too "adult" a show to be on N@N. I'm surprised Cheers and All in the Family are still on it. I hope another network picks it up soon. It's too great a show to be treated like this.

On this Roseanne thing, a couple of days ago I discovered that my local FOX station has picked up Roseanne. It's on from 8-9am. Since we get Oxygen and N@N, there's 5 hours (10 episodes) of Roseanne a day. Wings, of course, is only on once. But hopefully someday Wings will be on a cable channel that respects the show and airs it several hours a day, causing non-fans to complain that Wings is on every time they turn to the channel.

That already happened once on USA network. Maybe it will happen again though :D

I better choose my words wisely here because I don’t want to offend any Roseanne fans, but this news doesn’t surprise me one bit. I only watched a handful of Roseanne episodes when it was on ABC , but it was enough to say that I didn’t care for the show. The same was true for another huge sitcom hit, “Home Improvement”. I did not care for either of these shows at all.

Snoopy was kind of going in the same direction as I feel. Wings is just a very different type of sitcom. The writing on Wings is more adult oriented and much of the humor comes from adult themes and a higher level of intellectual situations. That is not to suggest that only people that are “dolts” appreciate a show like Roseanne, it’s just that the humor is derived in more simplistic ways.

I put Wings in the same category as shows like “Cheers, Mary Tyler Moore, Seinfeld, Frasier” etc, that rely on biting dialogue and adult situations, whereas other sitcoms such as Roseanne, Home Improvement, Grace Under Pressure (I think that is what it was called) or Alice etc.. those types of sitcoms have a completely different target audience and writing style and type of humor.

I know shows like Cheers have succeeded better then Wings did on Nick, but Cheers also had more name recognition and Cheers was GIVEN a chance by having multiple viewings at prime time for months!

I’m still going to add that I will always believe that Wings had a difficult beginning on Nick because when the show first premiered with the marathon of episodes was right at a time when the major War conflict began in Iraq. Nobody will convince me that it didn’t have an affect on ratings. Timing is everything, and I think that hurt the ratings of the show. Additionally, Wings was never given a chance to find its target audience because it was immediately moved around by Nick. Two weeks is not enough time to find an audience for a show.

I’m not saying Wings would have done better then Roseanne, but the ratings would have been better under different circumstances. But I’m not surprised with this news, and I hope Nick had a limited contract on Wings and other cable stations can pick up the show because it just isn’t a good fit, and it’s almost like “what’s the point” if they are only going to air it at 3:30am? Had Nick been running Wings for the last 3 years at 9pm I could see moving it to the graveyard shift to bring in fresh material. But given that the show hasn’t even been on Nick for 6 months, is proof positive they had no commitment to the show and really could care less about promoting it or giving it a chance to succeed.

At least we have a place to come and complain about this. I couldn't imagine if I had to just talk to myself about this issue. And by the way, no one from my job likes Roseanne being on N@N.

And now that I think about it, Roseanne was the ONLY show on N@N last week. So alot of people had no choice but to watch that show. Maybe the ratings will go down for it's regular timeslot.

This is exactly what I've been thinking.....that "Wings" on NICK just wasn't a good fit. It had all the bad chemistry of a disasterous blind date!

I've asked myself "What's the point?" regarding this situation more than once!

Here in Ohio where I live I can catch Roseanne about 8 times or more a day, same with Cosby. I kinda wish another network would pick it up.

I honestly don't believe Wings did all that bad, It may not have scored as big of ratings as maybe Roseanne or Cosby or Cheers but it couldn't have been that bad, I thought I read somewhere that it did wonderfully on USA. I wonder if they would pick it up again, maybe we should write to TBS, USA, any network that might be willing to pick it up. I say TBS, they dont cut anything out of the episodes they air.

You are so right, I love that I can see Wings BUT( a huge BUT) I say why bother to air it if the network isn't 100 percent behind it? I say look at the show JAG, it was first on NBC, they cancelled it, ABC picked it up, they cancelled it eventually, then CBS picked it up, put it in a great timeslot and BAM, a ratings winner and a beloved show now. That what I see can happen with Wings if it's just given the chance too.

A bit of a different direction, but it's like with another of my fav. shows Boy Meets World, Disney Channel has the contract for it until next year, and they butcher the show by cutting out parts that are "inappropriate" for their network and for the demo age group they are targeting. I say why bother to air the show if you are just going to ruin it for beloved fans, and I hate that Disney has banned 3 of the best BMW episodes of the series. It's freaking annoying!

I know that if some network picks up Wings put its on at a good time, and airs maybe 2 or 3 episodes a day, it could do very well, and that would make Nick @ Nite feel like a bunch of donkey's behinds

Something that I've noticed is that even though "Full House" is getting an "Introductory Marathon", it's nowhere NEAR as long or as intensive as the "Roseanne" opening marathon was.....

Just another case of NICK playing blatant favorites!

(By the way, I COULD be wrong, but wasn't "Roseanne" produced by the same production company that made "Cosby"?
Hmmm....We could be ON to something here!)

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe it won't be long before other Carsey/Werner shows like the 90's Cosby, Grace Under Fire, 3rd Rock, and That 70's Show are clogging up N@N.

I agree about N@N playing favorites with their shows. Neither Coach nor Wings got a weeklong all-night marathon. But we should all be glad that Full House isn't getting a giant marathon. I can't wait to see if Full House bombs on N@N. Full House is a show that belongs at 4pm, when it's intended audience is getting home from school. I can't imagine it being a big hit at 9pm.

I think Full House belongs on Nickelodeon or ABC Family.

Maybe the "Wings" cast should reunite just to film a new "Cosby"-like opening to the show....where they all dance around and make ridiculous-looking fools of themselves....

Then they could tack that new opening on to the old "Wings" episodes, and they just MIGHT have a shot at a better NICK time slot!

Maybe the cast should re-dub all the scenes in every episode so they sound cheesy and moral.
For example:
Lowell: Roy, I don't understand your hatrid and bullying. Would you please be my friend?
Roy: Well... maybe... alright. I love you, Lowell! Come on, let's hug, then we can stay up
late and watch Arsenio Hall!
Lowell(throws his fist around in circles): WOOF-WOOF-WOOF!!!
Roy: *THAT'S* my Lowell!
Brian, Joe and Helen: Awww!

What? Roy being kind and gentle to children and passangers?
Roy: Oh yes, I will offer you a free seat out of the goodness of my heart.

If you stop and think about it, there isn't ONE character on "Wings" who you can call entirely "kind and gentle".....

Even the NICEST characters (Fay, Lowell, Antonio, etc.) have their moments where they can be downright NASTY! (Remember Lowell actually BLACKMAILING the Hackett Brothers when he found out that they dressed their old coach in drag and took photos of him?)

Worse than that, Lowell stuffed both Antonio and his replacement in those cans in the episode where he gets a job offer in Boston (Labor Pains). If you think about it, he was trying to kill them. Unless I just saw that scene differently than everyone else.

Another "dark side" to the characters that I really enjoy watching is Joe's sadistic streak....

I LOVE how when things are not going well for certain characters (usually Brian or Helen), Joe can just sit back with this smug grin on his face and just BASK in the other person's misery...but to be fair, the other character usually deserves it!

(I especially like when Joe does that to Helen, like when her "big weekend" with Davis gets all gummed up....or when that "romantic guy" who was going to propose to his girlfriend via skywriting on Valentine's Day, and who Helen kept shoving under Joe's nose to show how unromantic Joe was, turned out to be a psycho stalker....Joe had a LOT of fun with THAT one!)

Lowell wasn't exactly kind when he wanted Joe and Roy to give him a raise, so he took advantage of them and ordered EVERYTHING on the expensive menu.

And who convinced him to do it?

Yeah they all weren't nice all the time, but that's human nature. Is there anyone here who can say they haven't been mean or nasty once in awhile?

All things considered I think Brian's probably the most good natured person on the show. Yeah, he stole Joe's fiance, and he pulls the occasional stunt, but never out of meaness.

I agree. I've never thought of Brian as someone who'd intentionally hurt someone. In fact, I don't think even Roy would do something to his friends if he thought they could really get hurt.

True...I think that one of Roy's finest episodes was the one where he was dating talk show host Mary Pat Lee, and she divulged on TV that Joe and Helen hadn't been making love all that often. Joe had confided in Roy about that, and when Roy saw Mary Pat use that as a show topic, and how it had hurt Joe and Helen, he dumped Mary Pat like a ton of bricks. His friends were obviously very important to him...even if he didn't show it all that often!

I think that that episode showed a very admirable (and loyal) side of Roy.

I think Roy really did care about his friends. You'd just have to reeeaaaally twist his arm to get him to admit that!
