Mr. Television 09-30-2003, 07:15 PM I prefer family also. MaydayMalonesGirl 09-30-2003, 07:26 PM Would Cheers be considered a workplace comedy?? I mean some of the characters work at the bar but some just hang out there. They're not a real family but they're kinda like one.... Sitcomwriter 09-30-2003, 07:56 PM OOH! OOH! Same here. "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Designing Women" are great workplace comedies, but then I also love "The Nanny" and "The Cosby Show" which are family sitcoms. The main thing is the writing, not the premise. Kristen Adamantium 10-01-2003, 05:10 PM When I was a kid, I prefered Family Sitcoms. But now, I go for workplace comedies. My 4 favorites are "NewsRadio", "Wings", "Taxi" and "Andy Richter Controls the Universe". And as for the question about "Cheers" being a workplace, I've always considered it one. Sam, Diane, Coach and Carla work there. Now The Dick Van Dyke Show, that was a mix between family comedy and workplace comedy. So I don't know which type to consider it. DianeChambers87 10-01-2003, 05:12 PM Cheers...Taxi...definately work place. The attitude is different and you don't have to deal with the "Family values" episodes from time to time. Also when they are not really related to each other, the characters get involved with each other. Central Perk 10-01-2003, 07:15 PM I prefer workplace comedies, but I do like both types of sitcoms. barwars 10-01-2003, 08:26 PM both. What would Seinfeld be considered? and.... would Frasier be both? But, Cheers beats them all, but as Brian said, as long as its funny. peter may 10-02-2003, 11:41 AM workplace sitcoms without a doubt Chocoholic 10-02-2003, 11:52 AM I prefer workplace comedies, but I like some family comedies too. Penny Lane 10-04-2003, 10:55 AM Good workplace comedies; Cheers The Bob Newhart Show The Mary Tyler Moore Show Alice Newhart BLT 10-06-2003, 10:35 AM Workplace comedies all the way, family sitcoms are more likely to be predictable and bland (full house). It's always the same predictable type of stuff: overprotective father, smart alecky child, smart child, problems with discipline, etc. By family, i'm not talking about adult families like "Frasier." James 10-07-2003, 12:17 AM I prefer family comedy, hands down. LILFACE23 10-07-2003, 12:21 AM Originally posted by James I prefer family comedy, hands down. Me too. Kinda gives comic relief to the home life for me. And it teaches me to handle some situations on a lighter note, where as before, I would get mad or say something stupid. Watching family comedy has definitly changed some of my thinking towards family life, in a good way. |
