View Full Version : Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz autographs
Vitameatavegamin 09-25-2003, 05:13 AM Hello - I was wondering what you thought about my autographs of Lucy and Desi and if you thought they were real or not. I'm kind of questioning the authenticity of these. Below is a picture of them:http://ebay3.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_EBAY_f45ce3514e38dcfe59e424dab9a39455/i-1.JPG
SPLAIN 09-25-2003, 09:45 AM Hard to say, i think hers looks real, i wouldn't know his though, enough to know if it's legit. Have you checked others to compare them?
Mickey 09-25-2003, 10:15 AM They do say, always be suspicious if two different ink colours are used. It's a good trick to make people think - can't have been written by the same person then, so not a forgery! But on the other hand, if the two of them were there at the same time signing that photo, why would they have used different pens? Unless it was at a mass signing of course.
Truth is you can never be sure unless you see the autograph actually being signed.
Ricardos4ever 09-25-2003, 02:29 PM There's always signatures of theirs up for sale on e-bay; i'm there a lot, and I'd say they look real.
w6xrl4 09-25-2003, 03:05 PM It's hard to tell looking at a scan but they do seem to have the characterisics of authentic signitures. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay and was the dealer reputable.
Vitameatavegamin 09-25-2003, 03:10 PM Hello - I bought these autograph for about $170. The dealer has a lot of atographs of Lucy (like over 10) and they all look simular..some are just her and soem both. The dealer I bought this from also has a bunch of other autographs (like 10 of each and keeps selling new ones of that same celebrity after they sold like 3...they sell like 3 at a time)

w6xrl4 09-25-2003, 03:57 PM Thank you for sharing some of the details. The price of $170 seems below the average cost of these two television legends. You may want to seek the advice of a different dealer in your area. I've been collecting autographs for 10 years and they look good but I can't be sure.
MagsLovesLucy 09-25-2003, 04:03 PM Does it have a Certificate of Authenticity? Also, if you buy from someone who's business is selling autographs, many times they're authentic. From just looking, that looks like Lucy's signature. I haven't really seen Desi's enough to be sure, though.
HuntingtonM15 09-25-2003, 04:13 PM I'm very unsure of that. Lucy didn't often sign her full name. Desi's signature isn't exactly like authentic ones I've seen before, but I really don't know.

That's a good point. Many times she just signed "Love, Lucy." The ones signed "Lucille Ball" are rarer.
Mickey 09-26-2003, 03:47 AM See, this is one of the things I've never understood about fandom. Why pay for something with somebody's name written on it? What's so great about autographs? I'm not getting at anybody here, I just never understood the attraction. Somebody writes their name; why's it so great? A signed first edition of a book I can understand; though it's not something I'd go out of my way to get, or pay extra money for. It's just somebody writing their name. Why is their name worth more than yours?
dawsongirl 09-26-2003, 04:24 AM His looks real...at least from other stuff I've seen.

Maybe because if they signed it, they had to have touched it? It sounds kinda funny, but then fandom is a funny thing.
It's better if it's actually personalized. Like, Best of Luck Ginger, Love, Lucy. Or whatever.
I agree with Mickey, and I don't care about autographs. It seems to be just a part of the idolatry attached to 'famous' people-- that somehow anything you have with a legitimate claim of their personal touch makes you more important.
I wonder what Lucy herself thought about that, when we consider the way she acted out the role of the obsessed fan who stumbles all over the place in the presence of a celebrity... the William Holden episode; wanting Richard Widmark to sign a grapefruit; the final scene in the Charles Boyer ep. And one I can only vaguely recall, where Lucy and Ethel both touched something that a movie star had touched, and Lucy vociferously told Ethel that she [Lucy] touched it first, that Ethel was a 'whole hand later!'. That's goofy, but Lucy surely had some first-hand experience dealing with such behavior.
SPLAIN 09-26-2003, 01:40 PM I don't care about them either but i have to say, like Dawsongirl mentionned, there's such a thrill when you see For Claude, Love Lucy for the rest of your life.
Mickey 09-26-2003, 01:45 PM "For Claude, Love Lucy". No, it doesn't give me much of a thrill!

Mkaleek 10-20-2003, 02:24 PM Can someone explain step by step on how I go about getting tickets to Lucy's event in Jamestown? Do I order them? Do I buy them there? Do I just have to make a reservation at a hotel? Can someone please explain?
Kazza 10-20-2003, 02:30 PM Have you tried calling the Museum? They should have most of the info that you are looking for
crazyredhead 10-20-2003, 02:37 PM Haha, I'm fascinated with famous people's autographs. Also with stuff they've owned...if I could just touch the hem of..*coughs*
LOL

Tickets aren't going to go on sale until next year, but when they do, you can buy them at the website. As for hotel reservations, I'd make them as soon as you can, because a lot of people come out for the two Lucy festivals, so they fill up quickly. :)
Vitameatavegamin 10-21-2003, 05:06 AM Hello - Mine as well post it here:
Hello - I'm looking for authentic autograph examples of Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, and William Frawley. I bought these fake autographs of Lucy and Desi thinking they were real but found out they were fakes. (The COA that came with it was printed off someone computer)
Also it would be great if anyone knew where I could buy authentic autographs of Lucy and Desi.
In case you're interested this is what my fake looks like:

Mkaleek 10-22-2003, 02:06 AM Thanks guys.
Vitameatavegamin 10-30-2003, 06:09 AM Hello - These autographs I posted a picture of I no longer have as I was able to get my money back (which was lucky). I found out they were forgeries. Anyone know where I can get some real ones?
~ Juli
Kazza 10-30-2003, 02:21 PM JULI you need to make sure and ask all questions before buying. Last night I was on ebay looking at a cute picture of DESI which was autographed. I emailed the seller and asked about the authenticity and she says "for the price that I paid for it; I can tell you it's not original." tHERE are services that offer an analysis of the signature for it's authenticity for a fee of course. I think it's very difficult to find the 'real thing' for autographs. No matter how expensive the photos maybe and the COA's; it's no guarantee (at least for me). You was lucky you got your money back:cool:
Vitameatavegamin 10-30-2003, 03:56 PM Hello - I'm going to avoid eBay as I've heard 99% of the autographs sold on their are fakes. Buying autographs from the members of the UACC is pretty safe as you are guarteed your money back with no questions asked 100%. It also doesn't have any time linit.
