View Full Version : Please for me: Whats your Age & what year did you start watching? (plus memories)
Austin Tripper 09-14-2003, 02:01 AM I am just curious of everyone's age..
and.. Can you tell us what Year did you start watching Three's Company!.. and if you want any thoughts or memories that you might have when you first started the Show... Thank You :)
If any Episode brings back a memory, please share it :)
** I am 32 years Old...
** I was lucky enough to watch the show since the very first episode in 1977!
When I watch certain episodes I remember the exact thoughts in my head when I saw these shows live on TV.. (by now I have seen everyone in reruns a million times.. but I still remember some of my thought of what I was seeing ) :)
sometimes I even remember .. wow I was in 4th grade.. or we talked about that episode at lunch in school back then..
ONE MOMENT I remember exactly what i thought.. When Jack was getting a loan from Dean Tarvers .. and Travers kept asking him "You live with 2 Girls!!"..
~ When Dean Travers said.. "Jack, this is the 70's"...
That moment.. I was thinking ((( wow.. what is 1980 going to be like.. then I was figuring out my age at certain years.. then of course I got to the year 2000.. and was thinking wow I am going to be around 30 years old.. the SAME age as Jack is now in late 70's))) what am I going to be like.. ect :)
Just that one line.. I have so many memories..
also I remember is some episodes when I my Grandma used to watch me when my Parents went out to dinner.. WE both would watch 3's company.. and just laugh!
She is dead now too .. and I miss those days with her :( ( I can even remember she made me Celery Salads with Italian Dressing.. while I was watching Three's Company)
I miss all those moments.. now
Crimson and Clover 09-14-2003, 02:04 AM Im only 18 so I didnt get to see it in its original run. I started watching 2 years ago when we first got cable and fell in love with the show and John(Jack). I watch it every night.
dandelion wine 09-14-2003, 02:07 AM I'll be 29 in less than a month, and I remember watching the show when I was just a little kid.. maybe 5 or so.
It's been mentioned before (the episode "All That Jazz," where Janet wants to become a dancer), but that's one I remember very well. Also, when Jack went out and got drunk with some of his Navy buddies and wound up with a tattoo on his rear end. It's when he's in the hospital bed and Janet's trying to get him dressed. That was absolutely hilarious to me! I laughed sooo damn hard, I thought never I'd get my breath back. He's all doped up, trying to get his shirt on but it gets stuck on his head.

omg I love episode. I love it when he grabs the covers and pulls then up with his legs sticking out (ok i cant explain it well, but you probably know what im talking about). That has to be one of the best scenes. And he puts his shoes on his hands.

Yes!! Oh man, I'm laughing right now remembering that part. Yeah, he puts 'em on his hands and pretends to be a seal. Meanwhile, Janet's trying her best to keep her cool.. It feels so good to laugh and remember these memories right now.

I would, too. Sure hope they air that episode for his tribute tonight.
Austin Tripper 09-14-2003, 02:19 AM thank you :)
There is NEVER going to be a show like this EVER again!!
Just a Example" All That Jazz"
How do you have in one episode the funniest stuff by Jack.. trying to dance.. geting hit in the face, almost kicked in the balls.. leg stuck on the wood raling against the wall..
( The Crowd is going nuts!!! :):) )
and then... Have Michael says to Janet " Let me level with you.. You don't have what it takes to become a Dancer!"
( The Crowd moan with hurt ) :( :(
Then.. John to me shows the REASON why everyone LOVES Jack Tripper!!
" Can I have this Dance"
(wow the whole crowd just gets a chill through their bodies and all moan at once)
** That Episode and MOMENT to this day is the most emotional moment I have ever seen in any Movie,Tv or Book.. any form of entertainment..
I felt it exactly when it aired the first time.. and NOW seeing that episode 500 times.. everytime I feel that same.. feeling
I Love Jack Tripper.. and this is the reason everyone fell in love ith John Ritter!
:)
man .. that is a amazing episode!

When Jack looked at Janet and said, "What I wanted to say is.. may I have this dance?" and they start dancing together, I wanted to be in her shoes.
I liked it when he tried to dance, or when he'd accidentally trip and fall over something. His timing was perfect. Oh, and when they're out camping and they keep making him swing around in the hammock.. hilarious!
phoebe7165 09-14-2003, 02:27 AM Hey, Austin Tripper!! I am 3?, and I, too, watched the 1st episode in 1977!! I have to admit I didn't watch alot of the later episodes, especially after Chrissy & the Ropers left, but I do catch other episodes from time to time now. I also didn't watch alot of 8 Simple Rules, either. My job takes me out of town alot, so these days, I don't have an awful lot of time to watch a whole lot of shows, even taping them. About 8 Simple Rules, I just happen to catch the "Come and Knock on Our Door" episode shown in rerun a few weeks back, and I laughed through the whole thing, especially when at the end, John's character found himself in bed with Don Knotts! Classic!! But as far as Three's Company, I especially remember the episode where Jack & Chrissy were handcuffed to each other, where Mr. Roper ate the dog food thinking it was something that Jack made, and the 'serious' episode where Chrissy bumped her head and was in the hospital.
But above all that, I know you want 3's Company memories, but I know I will always remember John as a diverse actor, playing all types of roles, and the fact that he was ALWAYS working, even when he didn't have his own show. He also seemed like such a decent man, in an industry marred by scandal, celebrites going in & out of rehab, couples cheating on each other, I guess you didn't hear much about him in the news because of just that. HE WAS DECENT!!! This is the reason he was always working, because he was one of those individuals that it was a joy to work with, he wasn't one of those 'difficult' actors. I posted on another board about favorite John Ritter roles, and I mentioned of course, Sling Blade, and a movie I saw a long time ago called Skin Deep. Another movie I neglected to mention was one he did in 1990, I believe, called Dreamer of Oz, in which he played L.Frank Baum, the author of The Wizard of Oz. With WOO being one of my favorite movies, I loved this movie because it showed what gave Baum his ideas for writing this story.
Anyhoo, I've said alot and now feel like I'm rambling. My heart and prayers go out to Amy, little Stella, and all his family and friends.
John, you are reunited again with Norman & Audra.

beckyc 09-14-2003, 04:53 AM I am 14, turning 15 this November. I remember watching a few episodes some years ago of Three's Company with my brother. I was maybe 9 or 10. It was around season four because it had Chrissy in it and it had the bumper car opening. I really liked it but we didn't watch it a lot after because I wasn't really commited to anything at the time and I think we switched satelite companies or something. I didn't even know about the other two blondes...or the Ropers, but I think my brother might have mentioned them...
I started watching Three's Company religiously when I was 13(If I can remember correctly!)which was just last year. I have to get up at 6:00am for highschool and Three's Company was on so I started to watch little bits of it and I LOVED IT! I didn't become so much obsessed with it until maybe last summer. I officially became obsessed after I saw the E! True Hollywood Story. I had(still do)the biggest crush on Jack Tripper.
I love it in "A Night Not To Remember" where Janet wants Jack to go to sleep but Jack wants to see her vase, and he yells, "I'm not going to bed unless YOU LEMMMEEEEEEEE SEEEEEEEEE ITTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!LOL! That always makes me laugh. I also love the episode Jack The Ripper. It's my favourite.
Three's Company makes me laugh whenever I feel down. I really have been affected by John's death and sometimes it hurts to watch it. I know I will get over John's death but it's not going to stop hurting until maybe a good two weeks. I will never forget him and the impact he's left on me.
I LOVE YOU JOHN RITTER! KEEP SMILING AND REST IN PEACE...:'(
TheBert 09-14-2003, 08:53 AM i'm 18 and i started watching it when I was 10 or so... i immediately fell in love with the show and recorded every episode on tape...
Mr. Television 09-14-2003, 09:19 AM Lets just say I;m in my 30's and leave it at that. My first memory of John Ritter was as The minister on the Waltons. That was my moms favorite show and I watched it every week. I remember watching the first episode in Primetime. It was on a Thursday night. I think the tv was just on that channel and I hadn't intended to watch it. Some of the jokes were over my head at the time but I fell in love with the cast and watched it every week until it went off the air in 1984. I liked the character of Jack Tripper so much I also watched Three's A Crowd every week until it was canceled even though it was on against another favorite show of mine The A-Team. When the show first went into Syndication I watched it every night on our local station. I also watched John in Hooperman and Hearts Afire(though I didn't watch that show every week). I was so glad when he came back to tv in 8 Simple Rules. It was one of the few modern sitcoms I watch. I have so many episodes of Three's Company that I love that its hard to state my favorite so I won't at this time. Needless to say John Ritter will be missed by me and my family.
nantucket_wings 09-14-2003, 09:35 AM Im 31 yrs old, I share my birthday with Johns daughter (Sept. 11th) and I started watching 3s company in the late 70s
ClassicTV4Ever 09-14-2003, 10:39 AM I'm 23 and I started watching Three's Company shortly after the original run had ended, maybe even the last few episodes of the last season. Then I grew up watching it whenever it was on in syndication.
LucyFan 09-14-2003, 02:28 PM I am in my early 20's and I first came acrossed Three's Company through a tape trade. I was introduced to the show when it came to Nick at Nite in October 2000. I have loved it since! It's a hilarious sitcom and probably the best show I have seen from the 1970's.
Beyotch Knowles 09-14-2003, 03:46 PM I am 29. I loved the show when it was on in the early 80s. I think it ran on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Unfornately I was 8 and my bedtime was 9. When it came on, I'd try to get my dad to turn the tv to Channel 7, but then I'd get sent to bed. Instead of going to bed, I would sit in the doorway and cry very loudly because I couldn't watch the show. By 9:07, I'd get a spanking...either that or I would cry until 9:30 and give up and go to bed since the show was over.
My parents said I couldn't watch it because my bedtime was 9. But I think that the truth is that we only had one TV back then and my dad wanted to watch sports and news shows.
I was still able to watch the show in syndication after school. I liked it for the plots and especially the physical humor. I never got all the "mature" jokes; they flew right over my head. When I was an adolescent and understood why the audience laughed when Mr. Roper overhead Jack yelling to Chrissy "then we can get it on", it was like watching a whole new show. LOL
Janet Tripper 09-14-2003, 05:38 PM I am 18 years old, and i just started to watch TC about a month & and half ago! But I remeber my brother watching it all the time and asking me to watch it w/he, and I always said no that it didn't look intesting, (gosh did I miss out) but then one night I was in our famiy office, which happends to be next to our family room and my brother was watching the show, and I remeber it catching my attention, and then when he changed it during a commercial, I said "hey don't change it, i want to see what happens next" and ever since I'v LOVE TC! Its the only thing I look forward to during the day! B/C I know no matter how hard of a day I've had, Jack Janet and the rest of the gang will make it a lot better!:D
mister bluster 09-15-2003, 03:34 AM So far, I seem to be the oldest person on this thread. I won't say by how much, but I started watching the show from the beginning. The two episodes I remember the most and the funniest were: the one where the wife of some guy Jack was catering to had designs on him and was playing footsie with him under the table (Jack's reactions were just riotous), and the one where Jack and Mr. Furley were locked in the freezer. I also loved how the one with Janet's dancing lessons turned out. He had a lovability that Raymond and other comedians of today will never have, no matter how funny they are, because he was never caustic. He just seemed like a big marshmallow--sort of like Red Skelton or Stan Laurel, two of my other all-time favorites. I hate to accept the fact that he's gone.
tattoored666 09-15-2003, 07:37 AM I'm 27, so I sure as hell didn't see the earlier ones during their first airing (the tv may have been on, but I would've been in my crib staring at the ceiling). Some of my earliest memories of life include watching the show. The seasons with Terri seem to be the first ones I remember seeing. I give credit to Three's Company for allowing me to grow up with a healthy understanding of the relationship between men and women. I'd keep going, but this is a PG rated message board.
Detroitbryan 09-15-2003, 10:38 AM I'm 21 and have been watching the show off and on for the past 10 years in reruns. I first started watching when it was on (I believe) a fox network affiliate sometime in the early 90s and then TBS and now of course NAN. I really got into it this past summer, and started reading the book, and trying to watch every episode that was aired.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 09-15-2003, 05:11 PM I'm 14, and have been watching the show since around 2001, when it started coming on nick at nite. I can't remember myself ever laughing so hard. It's my medicine, always making me feel happy when I'm down...but sadly it's been hard to watch it the last couple of days. :(
David 09-15-2003, 07:48 PM in June 2001, when I was....15 or something.
This show had me literally laughing on the floor. I had never laughed so hard in my life. It was phenomenal.
CarJackSnyder 09-15-2003, 07:52 PM i'm 13 an i started watchin the show round 2000. i hav memories though when i was lik 4 or 5 i remember watchin it wid my mom an dad.
Small Wonderian 09-15-2003, 07:54 PM I started watch Three's Company back in May of 2002, so I was still 18 at that point.
My grandmother told me to just watch one episode because I was skeptical that the show would even remotely make me laugh, but as it turned out I love the show and I never want to miss any episodes of the show. In fact, it's my
2nd favorite show behind Small Wonder.
tmb110 09-16-2003, 11:19 PM I am 19. I started watching re-runs of Three's Company when I was in high school (like 4-5 years ago).
MidnightSky 09-17-2003, 07:53 PM I'm 16
The first episode I remember watching bits and pieces of was "Chrissy's Hospitality" I think I was in 4th or 5th grade and I thought it was sooooo cool that Chrissy's full name was Christmas..lol.
But we got rid of cable and I kind of forgot about Three's Company...until we moved to my grandma's house in the summer of 2002 and I was skimming through the channels and came across.....Three's Company!!! It was "Larry loves Janet"...and from that point on I was hooked.
I had such a HUGE crush on Jack Tripper/John Ritter...omg....words could not describe. And then I saw the promos for "8 Simple Rules..." and I was excited that John got a new sitcom!
The one episode I remember laughing soooo much was the one where Larry was getting married to that girl Gloria and she had a crush on Jack...(who could blame her? lol) it was hilarious when he was mocking Gloria when he was drunk..."No fatty! They're in the other room!!!!" Great Times.

John, you brightened my day when I was down, you helped me see the lighter side of life...from the bottom of my heart..thank you. I'll miss you so much.
In loving memory, We'll miss you John!

LILFACE23 09-17-2003, 08:38 PM Hi, i'm 33 and also the first episode. i've seen them all and it's great going through the memories. Although i'm beyond heartbroken, it's still the best time of my life watching those shows. My parents were on their way to getting a divorce when they first aired Three's Company, and the only thing at the time that brought a smile to my face was watching John Ritter. I honestly don't know what my state of mind would've been had it not been for "Jack Tripper" The show and John are truly an important part of my life.
I love you John, thanks for putting on smile on face everytime i was down.
Burley_Furley 09-19-2003, 02:04 AM I'm 28 and new to this message board. I found this while searching for when a DVD is gonna come out for the first season of TC, and thanks to this message board I have a good idea when.
Anyhow, I've been watching tc ever since I can remember, my mother was a big fan, so as a child when she was watching, I was watching.
Me and my dad would get into arguements about the tv, we only had one back then, he wanted to watch MASH, and I wanted Three's Company. I would usually win thanks to my mom.
This is actually kinda funny. When I was about 8yrs old, my mom sent me to my aunts for the week. My mom paid me 5 bucks to not harrass my aunt about watching TC, I agreed and took the money. Well, it turned out that my aunt really liked the show too, and watched it. So I got to watch TC for the week and got the 5 bucks
The episode that really sticks out in my head as being one of the first that I remember seeing is "Days of beer and weeds" When the kids find the bad weed in the ropers garden.
I have soooo many favorite episodes that I cant really tell you which one is my favorite. But I can tell you that I have probably seen every episode about a thousand times, and still laugh at every one.
By the way, I am a huge John Ritter fan and have followed his career since TC, and am very saddened by his death, its very unfortunate.
nightc1 09-19-2003, 11:33 AM I'm 29... and started watching back in the day when it was originally on TV. I don't remember if I saw the first episode when it originally aired.. but I do remember watching the show and laughing. In the early 80's syndication brought the show into the afternoon slots on one of the local independent stations (at the time it was independent)... and so I watched it for several years there.
About 3 years ago through, after my wife and I had been married two years... and hadn't decided to spend the money on cable.. we finally took the plunge though and got a satellite from Dish Network. Initially our channels included Nickalodeon as well as TV Land. So that's about the time I started watching the "classic" shows again. It had probably been a good 10 years at that point since I had even seen an episode of Three's Company. At some point there after N@N started showing some classic shows in the evening that I was really interested in. Three's Company, The Facts of Life, etc. They did a marathon for Three's.. and my wife an i were quickly hooked again into the show. I ended up taping every episode once the series went through all that N@N showed and started over.
Such a great show. Once it started showing though I really wished they had the episodes available on DVD... and looks like early next year I'll finally get that wish to come true :D
So anyway that's my story. I'm old. But I've been around through out the series being shown originally (as well as The Ropers and Three's a Crowd). I didn't watch because of Chrissy's bouncing breasts... I watched because the situations the characters were put in was in every episode hilarious.

I threw up when I saw that episode. Must have been potatoes in them thar hills.
