I was just wondering about this as I was watching an episode the other day. Did Redd Foxx ever say where he got the idea for his funny walk that he used on Sanford & Son from?

I didn't hear where the walk came from but it was mentioned that Redd Foxx added the walk to the show. sylvia 10-05-2003, 11:10 AM When I was a kid and I used to watch Sanford and Son reruns with my dad and we used to laugh at Fred's walk, dad always said that Fred walked like he had a "job" in his pants!!!!! hahahahah happy sunday all. sylvia Zoneboy 10-07-2003, 03:37 AM The walk, probably came from the Kingfish on Amos & Andy. Fred's mannerisms were almost parallel to those of the Kingfish. In fact, there are several similarities between the 2 shows. Fred's calling Lamont Big Dummy came from Amos & Andy as that is what the Kingfish always called Andy. Fred like Kingfish always tried to hustle a buck but rarely did any work for it. The ideas for several episodes of S&S came from A&A. Well, not so much "based'' on "Amos 'n' Andy" as "inspired" by it. In addition to the examples cited by redrocker22, there are some very definite plotlines that ended up on "Sanford and Son" as well..."The Insurance Policy" and "Kingfish Gets Amnesia" being two examples... But the fun part of this for me is the fact that every character on S&S has an A&A counterpart: Fred/Kingfish; Bubba/Andy; Grady/Lightnin'; Esther/Sapphire; Lamont/Amos. So, if anything, "Sanford and Son" was indeed a modern "Amos 'n' Andy" retelling (with gentler stereotypes, to be sure...) |
