I just heard this while listening to Coast To Coast AM. George Noory just received the info apparently from the news. At this time there is no information on his death. There should be more information in the upcoming hours on the news.

This is sad. Three's Company was one of my favorite sitcoms. He will be missed. :(

That would be correct, AAOT. I just got this off my hometown newspaper website

TV Star John Ritter Dies of Heart Problem

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- John Ritter, whose portrayal of the bumbling but lovable Jack Tripper helped make the madcap comedy series "Three's Company" a smash hit in the 1970s, has died, his publicist and longtime assistant said Friday. He was 54.

Ritter fell ill Thursday on the set of his ABC sitcom "8 Simple Rules ... For Dating My Teenage Daughter," said Susan Wilcox, his assistant of 22 years. The cause of death was a dissection of the aorta, the result of an unrecognized flaw in his heart, said his publicist, Lisa Kasteler.

Ritter died at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday,

Ritter, a Southern California native who lived in Beverly Hills, came to prominence for his role in "Three's Company" and had appeared in more than 25 television movies and a number of films.

Ritter, who would have turned 55 on Wednesday, made a successful return to sitcom acting with "8 Simple Rules" last year, and the ABC show was scheduled to begin its second season on Sept. 23.

At the Burbank hospital where he died, Ritter was accompanied by producers and co-workers, his wife, Amy Yasbeck, and 23-year-old son Jason, Wilcox said. He is survived by three other children, Carly, Tyler and Stella.

That's awful. Guys like John Ritter don't die. I honestly don't know what to say.

He was a very talented physical comic, and the world lost more than they're even aware of yet.

That's such a sad shock :( . We've lost so many great entertainers this year. I loved John Ritter. He was so cute and funny and far too young to leave us. Watching Three's Company reruns will never be the same now. One thing I can say about JR is I've never once heard anything bad about him. He was a good and decent person. Being the child of an entertainer it is difficult to establish your own reputation and John Ritter certainly became a star in his own right.

I heard this on the radio at three this morning while I was trying to fall back asleep. Needless to say, I didn't for a while. I heard at the same time Johnny Cash died as well. I could understand that, Johnny Cash wasn't in the best of health, but John Ritter was still too young.:(

When I woke up, I was told immediately "John Ritter has died".. and my heart stopped.. I was like "What?!!!! You've gotta be kidding"

It was so unexpected! My heart goes out to his family and the cast of 8 Simple Rules.

This is so sad. Im crying. :(. He was such a great public figure. Everybody loved him.

But, as for the future of 8SR, I think if someone in heaven asked him "John, do you want 8 Simple Rules to continue, even without you?", he will say "Yes, of course".

I totally agree. I was watching CNN about 20 minutes ago and they were talking to a man on there about John Ritter, and he was telling them that he and his sister met John Ritter when they were both kids, and he said that when he asked JOhn for his autograph, he said, "How about if I give you both handshakes instead? Autographs just dehumanize me," something along the lines of that. I thought that was nice. :(

OMG not John Ritter, he seemed so down to earth and so nice. I just thought he was one of the best comedic actors of our time. He was often imitated, but no one came close.

I just went online a few minutes ago to another newsgroup and read this- so i checked here and imdb.com just in case it was a cruel joke. Three's Company never took off in the UK (it was a uk show b4) but the Problem Child movies were some of my favourite films as a kid-they were all so hilarious. He was back on top of his career, and his son had just began his own acting career. I'm kinda in shock now-it's so sad when an actor, especially one so talented and with a great career dies before his time. He seemed kinda like someone you cant imagine ever dying.
This has been a bad year-losing so many people, but this one is the saddest and most shocking.

I don't know what to say. I am absolutely shocked. It came out of nowhere.

Just a couple of weeks ago, he was on the Jerry Lewis telethon, within the first hour.

Although John Ritter will be known for his comedic roles, he was also believable in serious roles. His first TV role was a recurring role on the Waltons, as a baptist preacher.

What will happen to this TV show? Will Joyce & Suzanne make up?

Also sad reading that he died on his daughter's 5th birthday.

I hadn't heard that-this is all just so tragic, my thoughts are with his whole family-especially with his daughter-it must be the hardest thing in the world for that little girl to go through.
Everytime I see his death mentioned on different websites I feel real ill, it's very sudden. It will be interesting to see what will happen- when will his funeral take place? Also-I'm not a fan of 8 simple rules but I'm not sure what I'd want to happen if a star of my favourite sitcoms died.

I just can't believe it. I was watching A&E and they had a commercial for Biography: Remembering Johnny Cash and John Ritter. I went "no - I know that's not what they meant." I figured Johnny Cash had gone, and by the way, they were going to show Biography of John Ritter. John Ritter can't die! He just got married four years ago! I checked on imdb, it's already up there, and I came straight here. I knew I'd find people that loved him just as much as I did.

I've always liked Amy Yasbeck (ever since Robin Hood: Men in Tights) and she and John seemed so completely in love - I don't know what this will do to her, I hope she's alright. I can't believe he's gone - it's so awful. :( :( :( Rest in peace, John, we all love you!

John Ritter and Johnny Cash will be greatly missed by all. :crying: :crying:

I just found out on Inside Edition. I saw a little thing at the beginning showing John and I had no idea that he died. Then is said JOHN RITTER 1948-2003 and I was just shocked! I just started sobbing hysterically and ran into the other room to tell my mom. She didn't believe it either and I turned on the TV. I've never cried like this when a celebrity has died. It's just so hard to believe.

I really can't believe this. I was on the bus this morning and the radio was on. At first they mentioned Johnny Cash and then they're like, "John Ritter has died b/c of a heart condition" and I'm like..."...what?!" And I was like, "Caitlin! WHAT THE HELL DID THEY JUST SAY?!?!" and she's like..."Johnny Cash just died..." and I'm like..."No..the other thing!" and she just shrugs. And I'm like, "OMG!! THAT CAN'T BE TRUE! That's the guy on Three's Company, right?!?!?" and this senior next to me who like never talks she's like, "Yea, he was on there he also has that new show" and I'm like, "OMG!! HE CAN'T BE DEAD!!!"

I'm in shock. I never really watched Three's Company and I couldn't watch 8SW (even tho I wanted to) b/c I'm a Gilmore Girls junkie. But I've seen him in a movie and I've always liked him...I really can not believe he's dead. I'm upset. My heart goes out to his family and even you guyz here, b/c I KNOW you guyz are taking this worse then I am.

Usually I'm not really touched by a celebrities death-I usually just pay my respects and all because I respect most people working in the acting field. I've never even seen Three's Company-but after seeing how many people remember John for it I'm gonna try see it. But it's all so sad-I wasn't a big fan like I would be of ellen or lithgow- but reading the aint it cool news obituary makes me feel really really depressed and sad. He was a good man. I used to believe you died when you'd acheived everything you wanted and could do-but it seemed like he had so much more to offer-even from 8 simple rules he had been in 2 movies, one at sundance and one yet to come out-Bad Santa, so he probably could've had another excellent shot at movies, just like 8 simple rules gave him another excellent period in television. What makes it worse is in the UK no one appreciates acting or anything-especially where I'm from-so no one understands why I feel so bad when some actors die, these kind of real surprise deaths always make me question mortaility-I hate that whole feeling, it's morbid-he lived a life of comedy, but it's too hard to smile now.

No I haven't, but I really want to. I saw the other movie they made together, Stephen King's "It" and in the commentary John mentions that movie and how good of friends he and Annette O'Toole were.

Here's a pic of John with his beautiful wife, Amy Yasbeck.

I just posted this on the TC board..:crying:

I still can't believe this. It messed up my entire day. I went downstairs this morning and my mom told me. This is so tragic....especially because he was fine before and he just suddenly died of a heart attack. I'll never be able to watch my Three's Company tapes the same way again. I'll think "Oh, John's so funny, there should be a TC reunion!" Now, that's impossible. I'll miss his work and him too. He is so talented, which is why he is my favorite actor out of all the actors on Three's Company. He's the most talented, IMO. Rest in peace, John.

Oh wow..I still can't believe I just said that. I'm still in a state of shock. *sigh* Tonight, I'm going to watch as many of my TC tapes as I can, of course, those themed around Jack though.

John Ritter is such a talented actor and comedian and he will always be remembered. :crying:

I've been so sad today. I learned about his death at around 7:00AM. I was hoping that it wasn't true - after all, I had only seen CNN/Good Morning America scrolling it on the bottem. But when I came home, I saw some reporters talking about it on TV. It really sank in then.

John Ritter was such a great actor and seemed like one of the nicest people in Hollywood. I feel very sorry for his friends and family, since they lost him at such a young age and at such a bad time (9/11 is his daughter's b-day and 9/12 is his wife's birthday).

He was way too young...way too young.

By the way, did they had a clip from "Full House" where John Stamos was singing the "Three's Company" theme as a tribute to him?

No, and btw, I remember that ep very well and it wasn't a tribute to him. The whole plot was that Uncle Jesse had the Three's Company theme song stuck in his head but couldn't remember the words. So he tried and tried, but all he could remember was "Come and knock on our door. We've been waiting for you." Then he said "We've got a thing and a thing and another thing"......."Three's Company too." Then, later in that episode when Michelle buys the donkey, it doesn't stay quiet unless Uncle Jesse sings the Three's Company theme song (or what he knows of it at least) and then by the end, the whole cast sings the song together and they finish the part Uncle Jesse couldn't remember.
