Hello everyone!! I'm an avid fan fic reader on here, and I'm the crazy one always bothering everyone to post more, lol!!!!:D Well, this week has been slow posting of these fics, and I'm lost without out it!! So, I have written my first fan fic. Bare with me! Here goes nothing:


“Honey, ya gotta get up NOW. We’re gonna be late again,” Nate Basso stepped out from his woman’s bathroom and walked over to the bed. “CD, it’ll be the second time this
week; Capt. said last time was our last warning.”
CD DeLorenzo stirred once more. “Dammit, Nate, I’m coming, I’m just really sleepy.” She got out of bed and walked over to her closet. She grabbed the first outfit she saw and threw it on. She grabbed a brush and her makeup bag. “I’ll do this in the car, let’s
go.” They walked out of the apartment and into the car. Nate, for once, got to drive.

CD and Nate had been dating secretely for the past seven months. They had overcome other relationships, a shooting, and other hardships to get what they had been
wanting for years before they were finally a couple. Lately, though, CD had become angry and distant towards Nate. She was shoving him away, but she didn’t know why. She
loved him with all of her heart, but she was just so tired all the time.

SFPD- Nate and CD walk in at 7:58. “Well, that was a close one you two,” Capt. McCafferty replied when she saw two of her inspectors running through the door. “Yep, but we made it with minutes to spare!” Nate said with a grin.
“Ok, so you get a gold star Inspector,” Kate smiled back. “CD, you owe my four files, and Nate you still have three out that I need by today, 5 o’clock. Got it?” “Yes,
Capt,” they both reply.
They go over to their desks and sit down silently. Raina noticed tension in the air, so for the first time ever, she didn’t tease them or try to get any gossip out. She sat quietly at her desk while Magda and Jinny rushed through the door. “Uh, sorry we’re late Cap, but traffic was a nightmare!” Magda exclaimed.
“It’s always something, isn’t it?” Kate shook her head, annoyed that her Inspectors couldn’t be on time. “Jin, Mag, you two have a new case that just came in. See me in my office, and I’ll brief you on the situation.”
“Alright, Cap, be there in a sec,” Jinny said. The two inspectors take off their coats and hang them up. Magda pulls something out of her pocket; something she’s been needing to give Nate for the past three days. She’s just been holding it, cowardly, because she couldn’t believe what was going on. She knew CD was going to be very hurt by this. Or extremely pissed off and come after her.

Thanks for all the quick replies!! Here's a very short segment of the next part of this:

Magda knew she just had to let Nate accept his own consequences and deal with it now.
Then again, she knew about CD and Nate’s secret relationship. Jinny leaked it out to her on accident one day. It made her mad that those two didn’t tell her too. But she couldn’t worry about that now. She walked over to Nate’s desk. “Nate, can I see
you for a second?” Nate looks up from his report with a puzzled look on his face. “Uh, sure.”
He stands up, CD glancing up from her paperwork and frowns. “What’s going on you two?”
“Uh, nothing CD, I just had to ask Nate a question.”
“Um, alright. Something that I can’t hear?”
Magda looked up at Nate. “Yea, it’s a surprise,” Magda said stupidly and pulled Nate away before CD asked anymore questions.
They walked over to food and drink dispensers. “Magda, what the hell was that?” Nate asked angrily. “Nate, look I’ve been meaning to give you this.” She pulls out the note and hands it to him. “852-5356? What’s this?”
“Um, it’s a number you need to call.”
Nate was confused. “Who’s is it? I don’t recognize it.” Magda started stuttering,
“Well, uh, the person just moved to that location, and they want you to call them as soon as you get this.”
“Magda, what’s going on?”
“Nate, just call the number, it’s important. You need to know.”
Magda puts the number in his hand and walks away.
<<That was weird>> Nate thought to himself. He looks at the number, pulls out
his cell phone and dials. On the fourth ring, a quiet voice asks, “Hello?”
Nate replies back, “Yes, who am I speaking to?”

Hey, you've been getting feedback on yours, so YOU need to write more too!!! Esp. on Imag. from the Other Side (or whatever it's called), it's my favorite one!!!!!!:D

ok, I shouldn't be doing this b/c this is short fic and I want it to last awhile, but I feel that I MUST post more!!!:D So here's some to keep ya going!!

CD walks out to the candy machine just as Nate is putting away his phone. <<Wonder
what’s going on>> she thinks to herself. “Hey, honey, what’s going on?” she asked him.
Nate looks up guiltily. <<Wow, that’s the nicest she’s been to me all week. Good thing I have to go and ruin it.>> “Uh, hey CD, nothing’s going on, I just needed to make a phone
call.”
“Too important to make at your desk?”
“Yeah, listen, I can’t talk about it here. We really need to talk though. I think I’m going to go ask Cap if we can have the rest of the day off.” He walks back into the main area and knocks on Kate’s door. He goes in, leaving CD outside to think. <<What the hell’s going on? How does he know? The doctor didn’t call him, did she?>>
He walks back out and grabs their coats. “We can leave, CD, let’s go home.”
“Um, alright Nate.” They drive back to CD’s apartment in silence, Nate looking out the window, CD concentrating on the heavy traffic. Finally, after what seems like forever, they make it inside.
Nate grabs CD’s hand before she can shut the door completely. He shuts the door, and walks her over to the couch. “CD, there’s something very important I need to tell you.
I just found out today, and you’re going to be very upset with me.” He took a deep breath. “I hope you can forgive me. I love you with all of my heart; something happened before
we were together, something that might make you hate me. I just hope that....” he pauses, looking down at his hands, a single tear running down his soft cheek. “you can forgive
me.” He looks up and into her eyes. She sees he’s very troubled and reaches out to wipe the tear from his eye. She kisses his cheek, squeezes his hand, and looks into his eyes.
“What is it, honey?” He looks away, ashamed and scared. “CD, I’m sorry. I am so, so, SO sorry. Please forgive me!”
“Nate, calm down! I can’t forgive you if you haven’t told me what you’ve done wrong!”
He sighs a deep sigh and pulls out the number. “Magda gave me this today. She told me to call this phone number because it was very important. I didn’t know whose it
was, so i called it. I kinda wish I hadn’t.” He looked down at his feet again.
“Who was it, Nate?” CD asked quietly, already knowing the answer, but she didn’t know why SHE was calling him. “It was Lily, CD. She’s in trouble and needs my help.”
CD silently clenched a fist. “What does she want?”
“She needs me back, in a way. She is, uh, well.......” Nate stopped, too ashamed to finish.
CD reached over and pulled his face up, her eyes looking back into his. “She’s pregnant, isn’t she?” Nate looked back at her. He could see the pain in the big blue pools
of water. He nodded. “CD, I’m so ashamed. I should’ve been more careful, but we used protection every single time, so I don’t know how it happened. It was an accident, and
I’ve hurt you. Baby, I’m so sorry. Whatever I say, I can’t make it right. I’m going to have a child for the rest of my life now. And I know this is a mistake you just can’t shake off.
CD, please talk to me. What do you have to say?” CD stands up and walks to the other side of the room, her back turned to Nate. <<What the hell do you want me to say, Nate??Congratulations?? Way to go?? Dammit, why did this have to happen now?When everything was going right??> CD took a deep breath “Wow, Nate, this is a lot to deal with all at once. What are you planning on doing with the baby? Does Lily want it?”
“She said she did, but I honestly think she just wants me to get back with her. Listen, honey, if she has this baby, then I want to be a part of his or her life. I don’t want to abandon my child. Can you accept that?” CD turned to look at him. She was glad he didn’t just want to send a check every month or completely estrange himself from his child, like her father had done. She wanted Nate to have that baby, but it hurt so much
that LILY was the one who was the mother to his first child. “Nate, I love you, and I know you love me too. This happened before I even hinted that a relationship between us
could ever work. I want you to do this-- tell Lily you will be a part of the baby’s life. We should go see her tomorrow to make sure she has everything she needs to stay healthy for
the baby.”
Nate looked at CD with the weirdest look on his face. “Ya sure? I mean, you’re not mad at me?”
“Nate, I’m disappointed that a woman you will hopefully never marry is the mother to a child of yours, and I’m mad at myself for not snatching you up long before Lily did. But I’m definitely not mad at you for doing something you couldn’t have helped, since you were safe. I love you and I support you.”
“CD, thank you,” he said, as he wrapped his arms around her tightly. “Yes, she is a woman I will NEVER marry because I have you! I love you too, sweetheart.”
He kissed the top of her head,and they stayed in each other’s arms for a long time. CD was disappointed in herself for not telling Nate her news, but she decided it wasn’t the appropriate timing. He had a lot to deal with right now; she’d deal with her problem on her own. But her body was begging her to get it out. The worry built up pain in her abdomen. She needed to tell him soon, though, before it was too much to handle on her
own and lost it.

oh wow! I somehow knew that was what it was though. Lily pregnant I mean. And is CD too?

And I'm sorry that I haven't been posting as much lately. I'm at my parents place still and that's wearing me out so much. I'm wearing my innocent eyes day after day, putting on a disguise, pretending I'm something that I'm not, and all just because I don't wanna cause trouble, because that would upset my grandma, who lives here too, and who raised me, and who is the most important person in my life, and she just can't accept that I'm not happy here and that I'll never be happy here and that I just have to follow my heart and chase my dream and do this thing that I gotta do... anyhow, yeah that's why I'm not really in a writing mood lately. I'm sorry. But I still crave fanfic. It's my place to run to. So please keep on writing, because your fanfic really made my day today :)

I'm really sorry you're still stuck there, and all I've been worrying about is your fan fic!! I hope things get happier soon, and you get out of there. How much longer?? Glad I could make your day! And with that, there just might be a little something on here in a couple of minutes for ya and everyone else reading!! hint hint!:) ;) :cool:

Okay, I know I said I probably wouldn't post more today, I lied! I have to make SOMEONE a happier camper;) , so everyone benefits!! (Unless you don't like it of course, then, well, sucks to be you!!:D )

The next morning the alarm clock went off at 6am. Nate turned it off quickly and looked
over at CD, who hadn’t heard it and was still resting peacefully. He loved to watch that
woman sleep. He brushed a blond lock of a hair from her face and gently kissed her
cheek. “Mmmm,” CD stirred and opened her eyes a little. She grinned, seeing Nate above
her, getting ready to kiss her again. “Sorry I woke you honey, you’re just too tempting
laying there, looking beautiful.” She grinned at that compliment. “That’s ok, I GUESS,”
she replied with a devilish look on her face. “But you’re gonna have to repay me for the
sleep I’m losing.”
“Oh yeah?” he says as he lifts her oversized t shirt a little to play with her belly.
“What do I need to do?” She moaned softly to his touch, even after 7 months she
couldn’t get used to how much she loved him. “Come here and see.” She grabs him by
the neck and pulls him down on top of her, their mouths crashing together. Nate has been
waiting for this all week-- she’d been stonewalling him, arguing with him. He didn’t
know why she was so emotional lately. Now she’s all over him. <<Man, this woman has
the biggest mood swings ever.>> He pulls her up and slides the t shirt off of her. He
slows the kiss, gently brushing against her neck with his tongue. He pulls the sheets back
and slips the pair of his boxers off of her. “CD, I want you. I love you.” He makes a line
of kisses down her belly, his hands on her red lacy panties, in position to take them
off.
CD sits up. “Nate, we don’t have time for this. We’re going to be late for work.”
Nate, still kissing her, “CD, we have close to 2 hours, we have time. I want you,
honey. I need you. I haven’t felt you close to me all week.”
“Well, who’s fault is that?” she yells, shoving him off of her and standing up. She
grabs the t shirt and puts it back on.
“CD, what are you talking about? What have I done that you’ve hated me so much
this week?”
“Nate, are you that stupid?! Hmm, let’s see, you can’t keep your pants shut, you’re
going to be a daddy, and now both Ramirez bitches are going to be in our lives forever. I
don’t know Nate, why would I be mad at you?”
“CD, that happened yesterday. I apologized, and you said you were alright with it.
You’ve been quiet all week. What’s up, CD? There’s something else.”
“Yeah, well, maybe there is.” CD walks to her closet and gets something to wear.
She silently walks to the bathroom, locks the door, and turns on the water for the shower.
<<Dammit, why can’t I just tell him?>> She wonders to herself, tears rolling down her
face. She steps underneath the hot water and lets it scold her body, the warmth feeling so
good. She was so upset, mainly at herself, and she knew she needed to be away from Nate
for a little while. She was going to drive into work by herself today. Maybe that time by
herself could calm her down, regroup and talk to the man she loves.

Sorry about the dumb spacing this keeps doing. When I copy and paste it it screws the spacing up. O WELL THOUGH! Anyway, that's DEFINITELY all for today (considering the fact that it's nighttime!!). If you liked it let me know!:)

Well, let's see here, I was going to wait till I got at least 3 readers posting before I posted again, but I keep adding different things, so I'm excited too. So for my TWO readers, here ya go!! And it's a pretty long post to, so enjoy!:)

SFPD- Nate had been at The Division for almost an hour before CD finally rolled through
the door. He had been worried sick about her, angry at her for wanting to drive separately.
<<I hope she’s not sick or something serious.>> He thought to himself, noticing that she
had become paler and she’d lost a couple of pounds. No one else saw that though; she hid
it well.
CD walked over to her desk and sat down. She grabbed out one of her reports and
began writing it out. “CD,” Nate replied.
“Nate, we’re not talking about this morning right now. We both have work to do.”
“CD, I can’t work when I’m worried about you. Hey, come here, we need to talk.”
He walked over to her desk and picked up her hand.
“What, are you crazy?” She hissed, hoping no one had seen what he did. “Nate,
you know we can’t talk about us here, and you can’t touch me.” She took her hand out of
his, stood up, and walked to the women’s room.
She sat down on the bench, pulling her legs up to where she sat in a little ball. The
tears came again, this time they wouldn’t stop. She wasn’t feeling so well. She ran into a
stall and threw up. She layed there for a second, not knowing if she was done. She heaved
again and walked out of the stall just as Jinny was walking in.
Jinny looked up at CD. Her eyes puffy and soggy, her hair frizzed and a little
damp, CD looked awful. “CD, what’s going on?”
After CD and Nate became an item, Jinny and CD had become closer friends. CD
had confided in her about Nate and their relationship. They trusted each other, even
though Jinny had been drunk one night and slipped up the secret to Magda.
“Nothing, Jin, I’m just a little under the weather.”
“Bull ****, CD. Come on, we’re inspectors, remember? I go to my desk and see
Nate looking like his dog has been run over, and I come in here to use the bathroom and I
see you like this. CD, you can talk to me. Trust me.”
CD blinked back more tears. She knew she could trust Jinny, but she didn’t know if she was ready to say it outloud yet.
“CD, is this about Lily and the baby? Mag told me last night.” Jinny reached up and touched her shoulder. “I’m really sorry.”
“No, it’s not that. Well, some of it is, I guess. I found out something at the
beginning of the week that I was happy about. Then I was sad about and scared about. Now, after Lily, I feel like I can’t tell Nate.”
“Can’t tell him what, CD?”
CD went back to the bench and sat down. She rested her forehead on her clenched
hands. “I did something really stupid to surprise Nate, and now I know that I should’ve
asked him first.”
Jinny walked over to the bench and sat down beside her. She waited till CD lifted
her head up and she grabbed her hand. “What, CD? You can tell me, you NEED to tell
me or someone else before you burst.”
“Well, I guess you’re right. Um, Nate and I had been talking marriage for the past
couple of months, and he really thought we should do it. I was cautious and said we
should wait for awhile. I love him, but I’m still afraid of the packaged deal.” Tears welled
up in CD’s eyes. “We’ve also been talking about children. He was saying what a great
mom I would make, and I reminded him that I couldn’t have children. He looked really
sad and told me that yeah, he’d forgotten about that. So I got to thinking about it, and I
decided to surprise him. He went and visited his parents a couple of months ago because
his mom had a mild heart attack. He wanted to be there for them, and so he stayed up there for 2 weeks. While he was gone, I went to the hospital and got my tubes untied.”
“CD, that’s great! He’ll love that! But you’ve been waiting 2 MONTHS before you told him?”
“I wasn’t going to tell him. I was just going to surprise him one day, preferably after we were married, and say ‘Nate, guess what? We’re going to have a baby!’” CD sniffled and looked down at her hands.
“And that one day is here, isn’t it, honey?” Jinny now had a tear in her eye as well.
CD looked up at Jinny, nodding. The tears became overpowerful, and she let them
loose. Jinny wrapped her into a big hug, letting CD get it all out. “CD, it’s going to be
alright,” Jinny said as she rocked her. “You know that Nate loves you, he’d do anything
for you. He’s going to be the happiest man in the world!”
As the tears had passed and little hiccups had taken over, CD replied, “But now he has TWO pregnant women! This is going to be very bittersweet and I don’t want to tell
him now. I’ve been so mean to him this week because I’m really scared, and now I can’t just be all nice to him and say, ‘Surprise, you’re going to have 2 babies 7 months apart!’”
“CD, Nate will forgive you for being mean to him all week after he hears why you were. He’ll understand.” Jinny stood up. “I think the time’s right. You need to tell him now. Ya want me to go get him?”
CD looked up at Jinny and smiled. “Yeah, now’s as good a time as ever.”
Jinny grabbed CD’s hand once more. “You can do this.”
“Thanks Jinny.”
Jinny simply gave a nod, and with that, she walked out of the bathroom, and out to their offices.
“Jinny, you must really had to go, huh?” Raina yelled from across the room.
“Yeah, Raina, sure did.” Jinny rolled her eyes. “Idiot,” she mumbled under her breath as she came up to Nate’s desk. “Nate, CD needs to talk to you.”
“You mean she actually wants to?” he asked angrily. “Well, maybe I’m not ready this time.”
“Nate, stop being an ass, CD’s in the ladies, go talk to her NOW!”
Nate, slightly afraid, nods his head and walks to the ladies room.

CD had been pacing the floor, waiting for Nate, wondering what she was going to
say, when he walked in. She looked up, half expecting someone else. “Uh, hi Nate.”
“CD, Jin says you’re ready to talk to me.”
CD walks over to the bench and sits down. “Yeah, I am, but you should sit down too.”

Well, that's all for tonight! Again, since it's my first fic, I'm REALLY craving feedback!!:D :) :) Goodnight!!!

Nate joins CD on the bench and waits patiently for her to talk.
“Nate, I know you know something’s been up, and I’m sorry I haven’t told you
sooner. Now it’s an even worse time to tell you, after Lily and all, but I have to get it off
my shoulders before I burst.”
Nate was a little afraid. He was picturing the worst outcomes ever-- she was dying
or something awful like that, he just knew it. “What is it, honey? Are you sick?Something
bothering you? Tell me, whatever it is, we’ll get through it together.”
“It’s hopefully not anything life threatening. Um, remember when you left a
couple of months ago to visit your mom in the hospital?”
Nate nodded, afraid to speak.
“Well, I got you a gift that backfired.”
Nate was surprised. A gift was the last thing on his mind. “A gift? What kinda
gift?”
“Well, a nonreturnable one. We had been talking marriage before that, and the
next time you brought it up, I was going to say yes. So I decided to go ahead with this
gift, so I could heal while you were gone, and you wouldn’t notice anything different until
the time was right.”
Nate was completely puzzled. “Um, ok, is it a tattoo or something?”
CD laughed at this. “No, honey, it’s not a tattoo. I got my..................... tubes, uh,
untied.” CD looked down at her hands, afraid of what Nate was going to say next.
Nate’s eyes almost popped out of his head. “You what?! Are you being serious?!”
CD, not knowing if he was angry or happy, looked up. “Of course I’m being
serious!”
Nate was overpowered in happiness. He couldn’t believe CD had done something
so huge to herself, so painful, in secret. And for him. “CD, I can’t believe it! This is great!
So you wanna get married to me then?”
“Yes, I told you I was just waiting to hear the question again, and you hadn’t said
it yet, so I didn’t tell you. I didn’t want you to be mad.”
Nate stood up, grabbed CD up and wrapped her in a big bearhug. He swung her
around and sat her feet back on the ground. “Wow, this is great! Now we can start trying
for a baby! Oh, CD this is great!”
<<Dammit, why couldn’t he figure this out himself?>> “Well, Nate that’s not all.
First of all, if that was a proposal, it was awful.”
Nate giggled. “Oh, yeah, sorry.” He got down on one knee, holding up an invisible
box. “Candace DeLorenzo, will you be my blushing bride?” he asked excitedly.
CD rolled her eyes. “You are such a dork.”
“Is that a yes, my love?”
“Yes, Nate it is. I love you, honey.”
“CD, I love you too!” He stood up and put his arms around her middle. He
attacked her lips with his, thankful that she responded back. <<Now this is my CD.>> he
thought.
CD pulled back. <<What the hell?>> he wondered. “Nate, I only got to tell you
the first thing. That’s not it.”
<<Dammit, now she’s going to say she’s dying, isn’t she?>>
“Nate, we don’t have to try.”
He look at her puzzled. “Try for what, baby?”
“You just said it,” she replied. He was still completely clueless. “A baby, Nate.
We don’t have to try because I’m already pregnant. Almost 5 weeks.”
Nate just stared at her. He couldn’t believe it. Was this the best day of his life or
what? “Is something going to fall from the sky and kill me?” he thought outloud.
“What? Nate, what are you saying?”
“I’m saying that as of right now, I am the luckiest man in the world. Who’s going
to come ruin it for me?”
CD smiled. “Well, let’s see. You’re going to have 2 children about 7 months
apart. That’s a little strange, isn’t it?”
Nate had forgotten about Lily for about a second. “Aw, hell, I forgot about her. I
should probably go see her today after work, huh?”
“Yeah, we should, though, not just you. That way she won’t get any ideas, and I’ll
reload my gun before we go, just in case.”
Nate laughed at this. “Ok, sounds good to me.”
“Well, let’s get back to work then, partner.” CD walked to the door and began to
open it.
Nate came up from behind and closed it abruptly, pinning CD to the door.
“What, Nate?”
“Thank you, sweetheart.”
“For what?”
He kissed her gently on the mouth. “For being my fiancee, for giving me a baby,
and for being my life. I will love you like there’s no tomorrow.”
CD grinned, the grin she only used on him. “Nate, you already do.”

After work, the two Inspectors went and visited Lily. When she opened the door, Lily was
surprised to see CD with Nate; she figured her news on her pregnancy would tick her off
and she’d move on.
CD was actually shocked when Lily came to the door. <<She really is pregnant.>>
CD thought. She’d figured this was just a lie to get Nate to come back to her. Lily let
them in, and showed them to the couch. Lily sat in a glider chair, and they talked,
surprisingly nicely to each other. CD wrote a check out to Lily, so she could get plenty for
the baby. They all decided that the baby would live with Lily, that’s what she wanted, and
Nate and CD could have the baby every weekend. After figuring out a few more details,
Nate and CD left for home.
It was misting out, so Nate was driving protectively home. CD was quiet, looking
out the window, and replaying her day through her head. Nate turned to look at her.
“Looks like you’re thinking heavy over there, sweety.”
CD didn’t catch what he had said. “Huh?”
Nate smiled. “Whatcha thinking about?”
CD put her hand on her belly. “Oh, well I was just thinking about the baby. I’m
really excited now that you know. I have a lot of ideas; I want our baby to have
everything, Nate. I want a huge room for her, a big bassinet and cradle, and a rocker so
you or I can sit in it when we rock her in the middle of the night.”
Nate laughed, never hearing this CD-- a subtle, motherly CD. “You so sure the
baby’s a girl?”
“No, not at all. I don’t want to call her “it” though, so I’ve decided to say “her”
and “she.”
Nate smiled. “Whatever you say, honey.”

They made it back home safely, and CD went right to bed. Nate took a shower,
and then he, too, climbed into bed. He looked over at CD, snoring ever so lightly.
<<She’s so exhausted.>> He thought, as he curled up against her, putting his arms around
her. She stirred a little and buried her head into his chest. She was safe now.

FAST FORWARD 6 MONTHS:
Lily had her baby, a boy, Jacob David Ramirez-Basso, and Nate and CD had been
at the hospital with her. CD put on a happy face and held Lily’s hand while she screamed
out in pain. Nate got to cut the cord, which angered CD a little, but she kept it to herself.
At first, Lily was very maternal with Jacob. She would only let Nate have him for
a couple of hours on the weekend, and she didn’t want him to spend the night anywhere
but her house. With time, though, she became annoyed with taking care of the baby at all
times. CD and Nate were now having him two or three days during the week and
Saturday and Sunday. Lily would always make up an excuse for not being able to pick
him up, and then she’d ask if he could just stay another night. Nate and CD always
quickly agreed; they felt a lot safer when Jacob was with them.
CD had started to get a little bigger, but only in her middle. Her color was
fabulous now that Nate knew, and the whole Division for that matter, knew. Her cheeks
glowed, and she was smiling constantly. She’d had only a couple of bad days, but
everything was looking good.
Nate had moved in with CD because they wanted to be together at all times, and
mainly, so he could take care of her. They were looking for a house to buy together, and
in the meantime, had married. They got married in a little church, with Jinny as CD’s
maid of honor. As it should’ve been, Kate gave her away, looked strong as ever, and then
she went home and cried her eyes out, as her eldest “daughter” was now married and
expecting.
She was the proudest of them all (except for Nate, who was in a league of his
own. He’d shown everyone sonograms of his baby; felons and drug dealers, too, got a
look at his pride and joy!); she was so happy for CD. Her life was back on track now. CD
thought of Kate as her only mother. CD hadn’t told her real mom about the baby or Nate
yet-- she wasn’t ready to show Nate her past life. She had told him about it, but she didn’t
want him to see it yet.
Nate called his parents before the wedding and told them about him and CD’s
engagement, their baby, and the other baby. They were appalled when they heard the
news of CD-- they had always adored Lily. They even sent a gift and money for Jacob
David; nothing was sent for the baby on the way. Nate wrote them off like he should’ve a
long time ago.

With a little less than two months to go, CD was still coming to work. She was
strictly on desk duty, but she still wanted to be in the atmosphere. The doctor strongly
recommended her to maternity leave, but since, she was perfectly healthy, didn’t demand
it. It was a Tuesday morning, and Nate and CD were preparing for work. Nate had cooked
breakfast-- scrambled eggs and cheese, and he was cleaning up while CD was getting
dressed.
A yell came from the bedroom. “DAMMIT!”
Nate dropped a saucer on the floor, threw the dish towel down, and ran to the
room. “CD, are you ok? Is it the baby?”
CD was laying on the bed, trying to put on a pair of jeans. “Yes, it’s the baby. I’m
so fat that I can’t put on these pair of jeans!! I’ve tried all of them, but none of em fit!”
Nate laughed. “Honey, you’re going to gain a few pounds when you’re pregnant.
I’m sure there’s something there that fits. If not, we can switch jeans-- you wear mine,
and I’ll wear yours.” He smiled devilishly. “I’ll need a belt though.”
CD looked at him, trying to hold back a smile. “I hate you, you jerk!”
He sat down on the bed and put his hand on her belly. “But I LOVE you!” He
kissed her mouth, his tongue smoothly sliding across her teeth. She reached up and
enclosed her fingers around the back of his neck, dragging him down on her. Their
tongues collided in a quick fury, both of them knowing they needed to get ready for work,
both of them knowing they needed this more than work.

Okay, school got out early today, and I have a volleyball game tonight, so no pracice after school!!! Here's some more, and thank you, thank you for all of the replies!!!

After their morning rendezvous, Nate was driving them to work. CD had finally found
something that fit-- a pair of blue jean overalls. She had pulled her hair back into a low
ponytail, and Nate couldn’t get enough of that look. She was the cutest he’d ever seen
her, her little tummy exposed through the bibs. He looked over at her. “Do you know how
gorgeous you are?”
CD glared back at him. “What?! Are you blind? I’m fat, Nate. I can barely fit into
this seat!”
“CD, come on. You’ve gained, what, fifteen pounds? You look incredible. You’re
glowing.”
“First of all, I’ve gained TWENTY-TWO pounds!! And I am NOT glowing,
dammit!”
Nate turned his eyes back on the road with a smile on his face. “Whatever you say
dear.”

They pulled into the division’s parking lot and went inside. Nate went into the
captain’s office to get his next assignment with Raina. Raina had already been briefed and
she was at her desk looking at files when CD sat down.
“Oh my gosh, CD! You look SO adorable! Please wear bibs and your hair like that
every day!! Actually, you should wear your hair in little pigtails, then you would be even
cuter!!”
CD grimaced at that mental picture. Raina kept going. “CD, your skin is amazing!
What did you do to it? You’re glowing!”
Holding back as much anger as possible, CD replied, “I’m pregnant, Raina. I’m
fat. I can’t wear any of my clothes. I can’t see my shoes to tie them, and my feet hurt; I’m
miserable. But hey, when you’re pregnant, your skin turns radiant!!” CD expressed quite
sarcastically. “You should try it some time; it’s a blast.”
And with that, CD stood up and walked to the bathroom. This kid was doing a
dance on her bladder.
Raina shook her head. <<Touchy, touchy.>> She thought to herself as Nate came
out to join his temporary partner.
“Raina, where did CD go?”
“Bathroom, I think. Doesn’t she look beautiful today?!”
Nate had a frown on his face. “Of course she does, but you didn’t tell her that, did
you?”
“Well, of course I did!”
“Raina, she thinks she’s a blimp. Don’t compliment her again till she’s twenty
pounds lighter, okay? Then maybe she’ll accept it.” Nate picked up the files. “Anyway,
are you ready to go downtown?”
“Yep, just let me get my purse.”
“Okay, well, Capt’ll tell CD where we are if she needs anything, so let’s hit the
road.”
“Alrighty, partner!”
<<Please don’t ever call me that again,>> Nate thought.

As CD entered the bathroom, she saw Jinny already in there, washing her hands.
“Hey, Jin,” CD replied as she entered the first stall.
Jin had seen CD through the mirror. “Hey CD! Wow, has anyone told you how
beaut....”
“Yes, they have, so PLEASE save it.”
Jinny smiled, knowing CD had been a little moody lately, but with very good
reason. “You got it.”
CD sighed heavily. “Sorry to bite your head off; I’m just a little annoyed with
everyone telling me how adorable I am when I’m the size of the blimp!! Raina even told
me to put my hair into pig........” CD stopped abruptly.
“CD, you alright??”
CD grimaced from a slight pain. “Yeah, I’m fine, just a little kick from the baby.”
Jinny turned to look at the stall door. “Ya sure? Sounded more than a little.”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” CD replied and went on about her business. When she finished,
the pain came back, but now she could see why. “Um, Jinny?”
“What is it?” Jinny asked a little frightened.
“I, uh, have a problem. Ow, oh hell, this hurts!”
“CD, what’s going on? What is it?”
CD looked down and saw all she needed to. “I’m, uh........... bleeding,” she quietly whispered.

Okay, yes I am the devil, but I'm stopping there!!! More tomorrow, OR if I get a reply from at least 4 different people tonight before bed, I will post more!!:D

Jinny, very upset, tried to remain calm. “How much, CD?”
“WAY too much.” CD’s voice began to break. “I’m scared, Jin.”
“CD come outta there now, I’ll take you to the hospital asap.”
“Okay, Jinny.” CD stood up and tried to put her overalls back on.
While she was doing this, Jinny opened the bathroom door, saw Magda, and
yelled, “Mag, get Nate!”
Magda, very confused, replied, “Jin, him and Raina already left. What’s wrong?”
Jinny was panicky now. “Get the cap then.”
Magda saw the panic and ran to get Kate. Jinny ran back in the bathroom and
ended up fastening the overalls for CD. She slowly guided her out the door, just as
captain was getting ready to open it. “CD, Jinny, what’s wrong?”
CD had tears in her eyes from the pain and worry. Jinny answered very quietly so
all the other eyes on them couldn’t hear. “Cap, she’s bleeding. A lot. I’m taking her to the
hospital. We need to get a hold of Nate.”
Kate felt like someone had just slapped her in the face. “CD, honey, how badly
does it hurt? Slight pains or really intense?”
CD looked into Kate’s eyes. “It started out as just a little twinge, now it’s
becoming stronger.”
“Okay, Jin, take her to the hospital. I’ll call ahead, so they’ll be expecting you. I’ll
call Nate on his cell.” Turning to CD and kissing the top of her head, she whispered in her
ear: “Take care of yourself, okay? I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
“Thank you, Kate. Please get me Nate. Tell him to hurry.”
Kate nodded as Jinny wrapped an arm around CD’s middle and grabbed her hand
with her free one. She walked CD out to the car, helped her get somewhat comfortable,
and she, too, got in. She put on the bubble and drove to the nearest hospital as soon as
possible.
Meanwhile, Kate was devastated but maintained her composure. “Everyone back
to work,” she replied as she walked quickly to her office and picked up the phone, dialing
Nate’s number.
Raina and Nate had just pulled up to the scene when his phone went off. “Damn,
perfect timing,” he said, as he reached for it out of his pocket. The caller id showed the
precient’s number, so he anwered immediately. “Basso.”
“Nate, it’s Kate. Something’s wr....”
“Kate?! Oh, God, what’s wrong with CD? Where is she?” He knew he shouldn’t
have let her come to work.
“Nate, you need to stay calm. Jinny just took her to the hospital. She’s in some
pain, and she’s bleeding.” Silence... “Nate, are you there?”
Nate was in a daze. “Uh, yeah, captain, I’m there. I mean here.”
“Nate, put Raina on the phone.”
“Why?”
“She’ll drive you to the hospital.”
“Okay,” he replied. He was already in the passenger’s seat, so he shut his door and
buckled in. Raina took the phone and listened to Captain’s instructions, as Kate requested
Nate back on the phone while Raina drove.
“Nate, you need to stay calm when you’re around CD, okay? Don’t make her
anxious. Joke around with her, make her comfortable.”
Nate closed his eyes. “Cap,” he whispered. “I’m scared. I can’t lose her. We can’t
lose our baby either. She’s everything to me.” Tears ran down his cheeks.
Kate wished she could’ve been in that car with him. To use her motherly way to
help him get through this. “Nate, I know that. She knows that. Listen, I’ll meet you in the
waiting room there, okay?”
Nate nodded. “Thank you, Kate.” They pulled up to the hospital. “We’re here, so
I’m gonna go.”
“Alright, I’ll be there in about ten minutes.”
Nate forgot to say good bye and hung up the phone. He ran into the hospital and
demanded information. The maternity ward waiting room was on the third floor. He
chose to take the stairs and ran up them like there was no tomorrow. He opened the door
to the floor and saw Jinny standing there. “Jinny!” he yelled.
Jinny looked over at him and smiled in relief. “Thank God you’re finally here!
They won’t release any info without family here, and they wouldn’t let me in there with
her.”
“Okay, I’ll take care of this.” Nate walked over to the nurse’s station and explained his
situation.

Wow, I've noticed something-- ever since I've started writing this, I'm been a little nicer when begging for fan fic!! Plus I try to post at least once a day b/c I know how it feels to be waiting for a post!! LOL, well here's more!!

“Mr. Basso, the doctor is still trying to stabilize her. He will be out here in about ten
minutes. The only thing you can do now is wait.”
Ten minutes went by. Kate arrived and gave Nate a big hug. She held onto his
hand while they waited. Twenty minutes. Forty-five. Finally, a doctor came out. “Candace
Basso? Family of Candace Basso?”
Nate jumped out of his seat and ran to him. “Yes, I’m Candace Basso’s husband.
Please tell me what’s happening. Is she alright?”
The doctor looked at him. “Is your name Nate?:
Nate nodded. “Yes, yes it is. How’s my wife?”
“Well, Mr. Basso, your wife has lost a lot of blood. She’s in a lot of pain, so she’s
been given some pain killers. The baby is still alive but is in very critical condition.
Candace has been asking for you; I had to stabilize her completely before you could come
in. Do you want to see her? I should warn you, she’s pretty drugged up and out of it.”
“Yes, yes, doctor I do want to see her.”
“Alright, follow me, Mr. Basso.” The doctor led him to a room where CD was
alone, in a fitful sleep. Nate put his hand on CD’s arm, and she stirred. Her eyes opened
and a lopsided smile fell across her face.
“You made it, honey. I’m glad. How’s the baby?”
“The baby’s in critical condition, sweety. Don’t worry about it right now, okay?”
He gently picked up her hand and kissed it. “We’re going to get through this, CD. We
are.”
CD had tears in her eyes. “I’m scared, Nate. I need someone here who knows what
I’m going through. I need you.” Her eyes closed, the medicine kicking in a little more.
“But I want my mommy,” her voice said, almost like a little kid.
Nate knew what CD meant, so he kissed her forehead and went to get a mommy.
He returned to her room with Kate in hand.
“CD, honey, I’m here,” Kate said as she took CD’s hand.
CD’s eyes were glazed over, but they slightly opened. “Hi, Mommy. I’m glad
you’re here with me. Will you stay till I feel better?”
Kate looked at Nate and then back at CD. “Candace, honey, I’ll stay with you
forever, till you don’t need me anymore.”
CD nodded her head. “That sounds good.” She yawned. “Ya know, you’re a lot
better than my other mommy. You’re sweet.” And with that she fell asleep.

The next morning a beam of sun was shining through the window, right on CD’s
face. She stirred a little and opened her eyes. << Where am I?>> she wondered, as she
looked around. Then she remembered why she was here. She looked down at one hand
and saw Kate fast asleep. On the other side of her, Nate was there, his head resting on her
bed in a very uncomfortable position. She tousled his hair, and he opened his eyes.
“CD, honey, how are you feeling?”
She tried to move to get comfortable, her abdomen flinching in pain as she did it.
“Still a little pain but a lot better than yesterday.”
Nate grimaced at the thought of yesterday. “I’m so sorry I wasn’t with you when
this happened. You shouldn’t have been working, you should’ve been at home.”
“Nate, if I was at home, this still would’ve happened. I just would’ve been all
alone. Jinny took care of me, Nate. I’m going to be alright. By the way, where is Jinny?”
“I told her to go home after you fell asleep because the doctor wouldn’t let her
stay in here too. She said alright, but in the middle of the night I went down to the
cafeteria to get a coffee, and she was asleep on that hard couch in the waiting area.”
“If she’s still here, could you go bring her in here?”
Nate nodded, standing up. He kissed CD’s forehead. “I love you, honey. I’m glad
you’re better.”
CD closed her eyes. “Me too.”
Nate walked around the bed and looked at Kate. He messed up her hair and said,
“Rise and shine, our little sunshine!!” Then he walked out the door.
Kate opened her eyes, and her mouth turned into a smile as she saw CD awake.
“Ya know, your husband can be really corny, sometimes.”
CD laughed. “Yeah, just a little bit.”
“So how are you feeling today? I heard Nate asked you, but I want the full truth.”
CD sighed. “I still ache all over, my belly hurts a lot, and I have a severe
headache. I’m just glad that I’m okay and the baby’s okay.”
“Me too, CD. Me too.”

CD asked for some ice chips and Kate went out of the room to go get them. As she was
walking back in, Nate and Jinny followed her. “Jinny, hi! I’m so glad you’re here! You
look like you’re in pain though. Are you alright?”
Jinny grimaced, but nodded. “Yes, I’m fine. That couch was EXTREMEMLY
uncomfy last night. Oh well, though. How are you doing?”
“Not too bad. A lot better than the last time you saw me, that’s for sure.”
Jinny nodded. “Ya got that right!”
CD looked at Nate and Kate. “Guys, could I talk to Jin alone for a second?”
Kate nodded and walked over to CD. “Sure, I need to leave anyway. Gotta change
my clothes and get back to the division. I’ll tell everyone you’re doing great, and Magda
and Raina will probably stop by on their lunch hour.”
CD shook her head all right, as Kate hugged her gently. “Thanks, ‘Mom’ for
everything,” CD replied.
Kate grinned. “Anytime, ‘daughter.’ Anytime.” Kate picked up her things and
walked out the door, Nate walking her out.
Jin turned to CD. “What is it, CD?”
“I just wanted to tell you thank you again. I really apprciate what you did for me.
I’m really glad it was you that was there with me; I don’t think anyone else could’ve kept
their head like that.”
“CD, I’m glad I was the one too. Actually, I was extremely terrified that
something bad was going to happen to you. I couldn’t let it-- lately, ever since you and
Nate got together, you’ve been my best friend. You’ve looked out for me. Magda and I
were/are best friends, but the relationship is different. I can count on you always, and I
just wanted to return the favor.” Jinny picked up CD’s hand. “You can count on me.”
“I know I can, Jin. Yeah, I’m glad our friendship has become a lot stronger.
You’re a really good person.” CD scooted her body over a little. “Here, sit. Let’s talk
some more.”
Jinny took a seat, and the two of them sat and talked about different things for a
long time. Nate came in, wanting to be a part of it, and the three of them sat on CD’s bed
and talked. The doctor came in, and Jin left the room so they could examine CD. She had
lost a lot blood, would be tired and in pain for awhile, but the baby was doing good again.
She could go home in three or four days, provided that her and the baby remained healthy
and as long as she put her feet up and did nothing. She knew she was going to be
extremely bored, but as long as her baby made it, it was a sacrifice she could definitely
make.

Four days later, as promised, CD was released. She was bedridden, except to use
the bathroom and shower, and she really wasn’t looking forward to it. Nate was supposed
to go back to work the day after she was released, so she knew she was going go out of
her mind. Nate had bought her every women’s magazine, different books, and movies of
all assortments for her to read and watch while he was gone.
She looked forward to the nights, though. Lily had been dumping Jacob on them
close to every night now, and so once Nate picked him up from daycare and they came
home, everything was perfect to CD. Nate would fix dinner while CD played with Jake,
and then the two of them would have dinner in bed. Jake would sit in his highchair and
eat, make a mess, and then Nate would go clean him up. CD would start a movie for
them, and the three of them would snuggle up close and watch it. Jake would fall asleep,
Nate would put him to bed, and then Nate could concentrate solely on his CD. She would
start to drift off, and he would hold her tightly, stroking her hair and almost rocking her to
sleep. This was happiness.

One lazy Sunday morning, Nate went out to get some donuts for breakfast while
CD and Jacob slept. CD awoke suddenly, in horrific pain. This was much worse than the
first time. She sat up and pulled the covers back. Blood was everywhere. She panicked
and noticed Nate wasn’t home. She reached for the phone, dialing Nate’s number in a
fury.

Lincoln General Hospital-- Nate had driven as fast as he could to go back home
and then all the way to the hospital. Kate was meeting them there because they couldn’t
get a hold of Lily to take care of the baby, so she was going to watch him. They arrived at
the hospital; Kate was waiting for them and took Jacob into her arms while Nate helped
CD into the waiting area. A nurse saw the commotion and took CD to a private room to
get prepped for delivery.
“Sir, are you the daddy?” the nurse asked.
“Yes, I am. What can I do?” Nate asked worriedly.
“How far along is she?”
“Eight months and two weeks. Will she deliver today?”
“Yes, most definitely. She’s losing a lot of blood, so we either take the baby today
or risk losing it. Mr, uh...”
“Basso,” Nate replied.
“Mr. Basso, you need to scrub up to go into the delivery room. We’ll get your wife set up with the doctor.”

“GET AWAY FROM ME!!!” CD screamed back at him.
Nate stood in shock. “What??”
A nurse took him to the side. “Sir, she’s having a contraction right now; a BIG
one, so just remember that she doesn’t really mean what she says. The baby’s going to
have to be delivered by cesarean, by the way.”
Nate just nodded, too overwhelmed to speak. He went over to CD and held her
hand. “CD, I know you hate me right now, but I love you, and I’m going to help you get
through this as much as I can. If you need to squeeze my hand, do it as much as you want,
okay?”
CD just shook her head and grabbed. They were taking the baby out by C section
now, and CD was grasping Nate’s hand as hard as possible. He, too, was grimacing in
pain, as he had forgotten about CD’s amazing strength. CD screamed out in pain, tears
rolling down her cheeks.
“Mrs. Basso, you’re done!” the doctor exclaimed. “You have a gorgeous baby

CD, relieved that her baby was alright, laughed out in happiness. “Thank you,
God. Thank you.”
Nate kissed CD on the forehead. “You did it, honey. I’m so proud of you!”
“No, Nate,” she said as tried to give him a little hug. “WE did it.”
The doctor turned to Nate. “Mr. Basso, would you like to cut the cord?”
Nate grinned. “You bet!” He cut the cord and waited as the nurse cleaned the baby
off. She brought her over and laid her in CD’s arms. CD started to cry as she looked
down at the most beautiful baby in world. Nate took a turn, too, and then left the room to
go and tell Kate the wonderful news.

CD had many visitors during the next couple of days. Her and the baby had to stay
a little longer than usual because of CD’s problems with carrying the baby. Nate never
left her side, and they were closer to each other than ever before. Magda, Jinny, and Kate
all took turns caring for Jacob, as Lily still wasn’t reachable. Magda was really pissed at
her, and she was calling everywhere trying to track her down. She had no luck.
Jointly, CD and Nate came up with their baby girl’s name: CD wanted Hailey, and
Nate wanted Renee, hence Hailey Renee Basso. She was a really happy baby-- she rarely
cried and loved to be played with.
Jinny and Raina took a couple of days off to work together on a joint project for
CD and Nate-- they went house hunting for them. They went to CD and Nate, got ideas of
what they were looking for, and went out to find the perfect deal. They came back with
two possibilities, and once CD got released from the hospital, Nate and she went to check
them out. They decided on one very quickly-- a large, two story brick house with open
rooms and a gorgeous view. It was so perfect.
Jinny and the rest of the Division crew volunteered to move them in, too. Nate got
everything organized, CD watched over Jacob, Hailey, and herself while everyone moved
them in. It was such a fun time for all of them because they were all coming closer
together.

Almost three months later, CD stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel
around her body. She went into her room to rummage through her clothes. Nate had just
walked in before she got there. “Well, good morning, honey, ready for the big day?”
It was CD’s first day back to work. “Um, sure, as ready as I’ll ever be.” She had
tossed and turned the night before, her nerves were working overtime. She was afraid of
going back, afraid of leaving her kids at daycare, and just plain scared.
She found a nice pair of slacks and a maroon button down shirt and put them both
on. Nate walked over to her. “You look gorgeous, skinny-mini.”
CD rolled her eyes. “You sound stupid honey-bunny.”
Nate laughed and watched her continue to get ready. She had indeed lost all of the
weight she ended up gaining, along with four pounds more. She looked amazing and felt
vibrant. The kids were sleeping well at night, so Nate and her could relax.
The two of them finished getting ready and got the kids together for daycare. Both
cried a little when they left, stabbing CD right in the heart. She didn’t want to leave her
babies here. They did anyway and walked back out to the car. CD had tears in her eyes;
this was her first day without either kid.
CD handed the car keys over to Nate and got in on the passenger’s side. “Whoa,
CD, you alright? I mean, I actually get to drive?” He looked over at her and saw tears
streaming down her face. “Aww, honey come here.” He wrapped his arms around her and
held her. “It’ll be alright, sweety. We had to do it sometime.”
CD wiped her eyes. “I know. I’m fine, really. Let’s just go.”
“Okay, honey.” Nate started up the car and drove them to the Division.

“CD, WELCOME BACK!!” everyone exclaimed as they walked through the
doors.
“Thanks, guys!” CD replied back happily as she sat down at her desk.
The morning was full of busy activity. Jin and Mag got the newest homicide case,
and Raina was partnered with CD and Nate on a school shooting. It felt good to get back
into the groove, CD thought. She was happy and ready to be back. She tried not to think
about the kids too much.
After work, Nate went to the daycare to pick up the kids. CD went by cab straight
home from work to start supper. When she heard them pull up, CD ran out the front door
to greet them.
“Hi guys, how was daycare?” she asked them.
Jake replied happily, “Daddy!” which was the only word he could say yet.
Hailey just giggled as Daddy took her out of her car seat.
CD picked Jake up. “I guess that means you two had fun then. Let’s go eat!”
The four of them sat down at the table. CD started feeding Hailey, Nate cut up
Jake’s food into little tiny squares so he can eat. The four of them sat quietly, eating, and
then the phone interrupted their peaceful dinner. Nate jumps up to answer it. “Hello?”
The voice on the other line replies, “Nate, I’m sorry, but I can’t take it anymore.”
“Who is this?” Nate asks, then recognizing the voice, “Lily, is that you?”
“Yes,” she sighs. “I’m glad you answered and not CD.”
“Where have you been, Lily?” Nate demanded.
Lily hadn’t been in contact with them, since she’d left Jacob there with them one
night and never returned. “Nate, I’m not coming back. I’m not in California anymore.”
“Lily, what are you talking about?”
“You know I’d never be a good mother; I’m not cut out for that sort of thing. I
don’t like a lot of responsibility.”
“It’s called growing up, Lily. Everyone has to do it sometime. Listen, you’re not
really just going to leave your son are you? I mean, he has CD and me, but don’t you
think he’s going to want to see his real mom, too?”
“Nate, I’ve got plans in my life. None of them involves a kid. Look, I need to be
going.”
Nate screamed into the phone. “Lily, I can’t believe you’re so damn immature!
You’re making the biggest mistake of your life, ya know that?!”
“Maybe I am, Nate, but Jake’s happier now. I know he is. CD’s probably already
taken my place anyway.”
“Lily, you stupid bitch! You leave now, you’ll never see him again, that’s for sure,
so don’t abandon this little boy!”
Lily was starting to get pissed now. “Nate, I’m NOT coming back! EVER! So
don’t try to convince me! Shut the hell up and listen to me-- there’s something about
Jake.”
Nate stopped yelling. “What about my son?”
Lily looked at the phone with a little grin. “He’s not yours.”
Dial tone.........

Nate stared at the phone, in shock. CD had heard yelling and went to see what was going
on. “Nate, who was on the phone?”
Nate was in a daze as he turned around and faced CD, not knowing she was right
there.
“Nate, what is it?” She could see the shock and pain in his eyes.
“Uh, well, that was Lily.” Nate said, as they both heard a cry in the kitchen. Hailey
had spilt her peaches everywhere and was throwing a fit. She’d got them all over her
clothes and in her hair. CD picked her up and took her to the bathtub. Nate stayed in the
kitchen and cleaned up the mess.
After the kids were put into bed, Nate sat down with CD and told her everything.
Her emotions were like a roller coaster-- shock, happiness, anger, and then shock again.
She was really happy Lily was going to leave them alone but sad for Jacob who wouldn’t
see his mom, probably for the rest of his life. She became beside herself in rage when he
said that Jacob wasn’t even his.
“Do you think she was just saying that to make you angry?” CD asked.
“I don’t know, CD. I mean, it was really weird, but when she first had him, I
didn’t really feel a bond between the two of us. When you had Hailey, I felt this special
bond that no one could ever replace, ya know?”
“Yes, I know. I felt it too.”
“Well, I didn’t feel anything when Jake was born. I just shook it off and thought
that because Lily was the mother, I didn’t feel anything special.” He sighed and shook his
head. “But I didn’t recognize any of my qualities in him either. A baby takes after their
mother and father-- looks and personality. He looks like Lily, and I just thought he had
her personality too. But maybe he doesn’t,” he put his head down. “Maybe he has his
daddy’s.”
CD could see he was very upset. “Do you want to find out?”
Nate nodded. “I don’t want to know, but if there’s ever anything medically wrong
with him, we’re going to have to know if he’s mine or not.”
CD shook her head in agreement. “I’ll go set up an appointment for tomorrow for
a paternity test.”
“Thanks, Candace.”
CD made the appointment, and the two of them went to bed. Tonight, though, felt
really different. Every night, Nate would always hold CD close to him, protecting her.
Tonight, the roles were reversed-- CD held onto him tightly, his head buried into her. He
tossed and turned and had nightmares; CD consoled him back to sleep.

The next morning they went to do the paternity tests. They had to wait forty-eight
hours before the results came in. Nate was extremely nervous, waiting those two days and
especially on the big day when he found out. They had both taken the day off, explaining
to Kate the situation and were at home playing with the kids when the phone rang.
It was what they were expecting-- Nate wasn’t the father. Lily HAD gotten
herself pregnant to try and get Nate back. Nate was beside himself, not knowing what to
do. The kids were put down for naps, so CD and Nate could talk it out.
“Nate, really though, what does this change? Jacob has never been my child,
either, but he’s always been mine, ya know? Now it’s the same thing with you.”
“CD, it was my fault that we had two children so close together. Aren’t you mad
at me for putting us in this situation?”
“Nate, you wanted children, I wanted children. We got children, and I lucked out
by only having to carry one of them. The doctor told me that after Hailey, there was a
good chance I couldn’t conceive anymore, or I’d be on bedrest till the end of my term.
We got our 2 beautiful kids; Jake might not be ours, blood-wise, but family-wise, he was
never anyone else’s.”
Nate nodded. “You’re right, CD. I’m glad you’re here to set me straight.” He
smiled and enclosed her into his arms, kissing her cheek. "I love you, ya know that?"
CD grinned and nodded.
“Ya wanna go to bed?” He asked with a devilish grin on his face.
CD looked at him clueless. “Bed? It’s the middle of the afternoon. I’m not even
tired!”
He looked at her shirt and started unbuttoning it. He kissed her mouth, her neck.
“Me neither,” he whispered into her ear.
She giggled as he carried her into their bedroom.
They made slow passionate love to each other, took a breather, and did it again.
They were so in love with each other that no matter what, they would get through
everything. Together. They had been pricked with so many thorns during their life that,
now, it was their time. All they needed was their family. Their kids. Passionate love. And each other.
