Today marks the sixth anniversary of Princess Diana's death. It was a Saturday night, and I was watching 'America's Most Wanted' with my husband when the news broke in. From that point, it was just waiting for the status of her condition....
I recall going back and forth on the phone with my mother about it. It was confirmed for me by CNN newcaster Brian Williams. I was in a state of disbelief.

Do you remember where you were when you heard the news?

I was at a boyfriend's condo; we were watching some television program and then the news broke the announcement that Diana was in a serious car accident, the boyfriend did not seem to care and changed the channel before I could get any more information, furious I ran into an upstairs bathroom and called a friend on my cellular phone to find out if he
knew what really happened and that is when I found out that not only was Diana in a serious car accident but that she had died:(

Oh yes, I do. I was home watching SNL, it was a commercial, so I was flipping channels, and I, too, flipped to Brian Williams. At the time I got to that, Dodi was already dead, but Diana wasn't yet, she just had a broken arm. I thought she just started this relationship, and now he's gone. So I was flipping back & forth(I actually thought she was going to be OK, because come on, it's Diana!! She's immortal!). The next time I put it on, Brian said she was in grave condition, and I was still holding out hope. Went back to SNL, then went back to Brian, and was then he announced she had just died. OMG, just typing that part gave me goosebumps. I was laying on the couch and sat straight up and yelled OMG!! My sister was at my house that night, too, and she was in the kitchen, and she ran out of the kitchen and yelled What!! because she had been hearing all that was going on.

I follow the royal family and I really, really liked Diana, like many others did. Despite her many personal problems, I still liked her. I know she absolutely loved her kids, and wish she were here still, to see them grow up. In her death though, I looked at it this way, she died young and beautiful, the young and beautiful way that we saw her, much like JFK, Jr.:crying: :crying:

I had been watching TV and had fallen asleep. I woke up and the story was breaking right at that moment. Since I'd just woken up I thought that maybe I was dreaming or misunderstanding what I was hearing. I thought, 'This must be a television fiction. This can't be real.' It wasn't long after I realized that it was real, they said that she had died. Stunned silence. Diana was a wonderfully admirable person. Her death was a crushing loss. :(

I sadly don't remember any more (I was 12 and had just started seventh grade the week of the accident). :( My teacher told me about it when we came back to school the next week and I remember watching her funeral on TV and bawling my eyes out. :crying:

I don't remember too much about it, being that I was only 8 at the time, but I do remember seeing news about it on the tv and all the talk about it. It's really sad :(

I was in Canada actually, camping with my parents. I was half-asleep and I heard my dad saying something about Diana being dead and I remember thinking "no, it can't be THAT Diana..." but I sat up and asked what was going on. My dad held up the Canadian newspaper that had a headline equal to a declaration of war: DIANA DEAD and it showed a picture of the crash. I still have that newspaper.

It's such a huge deal in Canada, cuz of course, the queen is still their official head of state - they still recognize the British monarchy. We drove home that day and everywhere in Canada we got asked if we'd heard the news. Sad, sad day. I know I thought a lot about Prince Will and Harry that day. William is exactly my age and Harry's the same age as my sister - couldn't imagine losing their mother like that - so suddenly. :(

I had just flown in to Los Angeles for a week-long vacation and had gotten back to my hotel room from walking long, long city blocks in Van Nuys and was ready to relax when I turned on the news. Just about every channel had some news about Princess Di, with commentators and all talking about her, and I thought, "Gee, do we have to go on about Princess Di's marital woes forever and a day again??" And then they had announced that, for those who had just joined watching, Princess Di and her boyfriend Dodi had been killed in a crash in Paris. And I thought,:eek2: OMG, I couldn't believe it. It was very sad. :crying: So young and so beautiful, someone like her who had gone through a lot of pain. Of course my feelings ten seconds before hearing the reason why they were broadcasting this news was because the media had been known to sensationalize her problems till it became a never-ending soap opera, and I thought before, Gee, just give just the girl a rest... Everything changes when you hear the whole story.

I wasn't being insensitive, but there was media overkill in the last few years of her life. I remember seeing some pictures of her where she looked very sad. After her death I began to get some idea of the good, kind person she was and all that she was doing to help people with AIDS and getting countries to band use of landmines. I remember several months earlier when clothing designer Versace was murdered, on the cover of USA Today there was a photo of Di and Elton John at his funeral, and Elton John was looking at the camera looking so devastated and his eyes wet with tears. I thought, OMG, why can't these media guys let Elton and Di alone and not butt in on their moment of sorrow?? I thought it was very disrespectful of them to intrude like that.

Elton John did sing a very beautiful version of "Candle In the Wind" for her at her funeral. Sadly, when I got back home, I heard people ragging on her, saying, "Enough all ready, you'd think Jesus had just died...Let's get back into sports broadcasts..." I thought about those people, yeah, just wait till YOU jerks die and people say junk about you...

It was nice while I was in L.A. that they had a skywriter form a heart with DI in the middle.

I think I remember something like Hanson being on the radio on Rick Dees or something and then I heard them interrupt it and say that she had been killed. I was like.... 10? 11? I dont remember that much about it, because well, my mind was concentrating on different things back then.

I first heard about the car crash while watching TV on Saturday night. At that time only Dodi had died. I didn't find out that Diana had died until I got the Sunday paper. I felt shock and disbelief. I also felt so sorry for Prince William and Harry.:(

Yea, I was only 8 too. I think I remember hearing about it, but it didn't really matter. I'm not really up with politics or whatever, and I don't know that much about her, so yea, it's sad she's dead, but even now I'm not devastated.

OT: I LOOOOOOOOOOVE you avatar!! My best friend and I are OBSESSED with Drunken Girl! After we saw her on SNL when Bernie Mac hosted we went around saying "D'yoo wanna kno?"

I was only 8 at the time... but I remember it so well. I was sitting around coloring in the living room when my grandmother called my father. She was hysterical. She was from England, so of course the news stuck her very hard. Even though I was 8, I still remember it. I remember watching the funeral on TV and just staring in disbelief. I couldn't grasp the concept that she had died...

I was at home watching TV. I don't remember what I was watching but I just remember a message at the bottom of the screen saying that she had been in a car crash and that her companion had reportedly been killed. She hadn't died yet. They had just said that she had a broken arm and an injured leg. I honestly thought that she was going to be OK. It wasn't until the following morning when I turned on the TV that I found out she had died. It was quite a shock. I had remembered watching her wedding in 1981 and 16 years later to watch her funeral was very sad.

In the UK on tv there's an interactive kinda service to find out football results, news, movie reviews called teletext available-well, at around 2 o'clock in the morning when the channel isn't broadcasting any programmes-they show this.
I'd had an agonising toothache the whole week and went downstairs for a drink and stayed there to sleep-but put on the TV, and in the news section a title said-princess of wales in crash- I knew Diana was princess of wales but in all honesty when I read this I doubted myself and asked someone else who's the princess of wales-and then a few minutes later it was posted that she was dead.

Sadly, I was too young to remember exactly what I was doing. Let's see, I was 9. It look's like I would remember, but I don't. Every since I was old enough to remember her though, she has been one of my idol's, and I still today think of her as one of the most profound women in history.
