80skid 02-01-2001, 05:01 PM Did anyone else notice the fact starting with "Ain't Miss Beholden" (my favorite episode of all time, by the way http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif ) the credits have "Nancy McKeon as Jo"? I think it's cuz she won an Emmy for FOL Go to Paris, but I'm not so sure. Anyone know why?
Love The Facts Of Life 02-01-2001, 05:22 PM I think she was listed as Jo since she was voted "most popular charecter" or something. But she was listed as Jo for the last couple of years,I belive.

FOL85NatandMrsGRock 02-01-2001, 06:30 PM In those years it was popular to have the last person in the credits with the character they played... they do that in a LOT of tv shows.. it MIGHT be cuz she is the most popular character but i highly doutb that... cuz they didnt do that when Blair was still the favorite character among people... so i think the whole thing about ti cuz Jo was the fav character is BS! major BS... sorry i know you'd like to think that.. but it was popular in that time period and is still today that the last person in the credits gets to have their character name...

jo: mrs. g gone on ahead I KNOW i can fix the problem

ThomasE 02-01-2001, 10:00 PM My favorite line from this episode was:
Jo http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gifpretending to be nice) You know,Blair I was thinking of doing something with my hair.
Blair: You mean like washing it?
That was cold and Blair should have been slapped....that's OK it will happen in episode 74. Jo didn't take that mess and stopped acting phony.

Rose: I wish Dorothy were here.
Blanche: Not even she can help us.
Rose: No but she can beat the crap out of you!
Cokies 02-02-2001, 07:50 PM Sorry to bring this up again, I havent been around for a couple days... Anyway, I do believe that they started the 'Nancy McKeon as Jo' thing because it was appropriate to have the most popular character as the last shown on the credits. With the 'as Jo' thing with it. I mean, for example: Malcolm in the Middle, Frankie Muniz is listed last on the credits. It does'nt exactly have to mean that, but i'd say it would be a safe assumption.

lesliem14 02-02-2001, 07:56 PM I agree with Cokies on this one. To add another example: Jonathan Taylor Thomas on Home Improvement was moved to end of the opening credits about midway through the run with the "as Randy"

That was funny.

Wow. Nancy McKeon never won an Emmy for FOL. None of the girls were even nominated---only Charlotte was, once.
Sitcommania 06-21-2019, 07:12 AM I think the actors were ordered by experience. Lisa was the oldest and had the most experience after Charlotte. Kim was younger than Mindy but was already a professional. Obviously Mindy would have to be placed before Nancy McKeon because she had been on the show a full year. Then “and Jo” was an acknowledgement to Nancy’s popularity without reordering the cast. It was probably also requested by her management. I think Lisa mentioned on Nancy’s Biography that it briefly bothered her because she had been “second banana”.
Schmoopie 06-24-2019, 02:34 AM I really liked Nancy's performance in the Paris movie. She was great and I can see why she won an Emmy. Now I'm curious. Did her Paris boyfriend ever make an appearance on the show after that episode? I'm working my way through Season 5 and no sign of him yet.

No, no. Nancy McKeon did not win an Emmy. She was never even nominated for an Emmy in her whole career. That's what I was saying "wow" above, I was shocked at that inaccuracy on this board.

No, he only appeared in the movie. But now that you bring that up, it would have been great to see him show up in season 5 or beyond.

I was sadden to see that they didn't pick up on that teen romance or maybe have him show up for the Valentine's Day Dance episode. Oh well!
Schmoopie 06-26-2019, 03:17 AM I've noticed (in Season 5 at least) that Nancy McKeon is the only cast member billed with her character name as well. It always says "And Nancy McKeon as Jo". I agree she's the best part of the show, but I find that really interesting that she is the only one billed that way.

You "agree" with whom? Are you saying that just because her character's name is credited, that she's the best character? If so, then I disagree. Lots of shows used to bill the last credited character with their character's name. A couple of examples are:
Mama's Family: "And Rue McClanahan as Aunt Fran"
Mr. Belvedere: "And Bob Eucker as George"
And those two aren't considered by most fans to be the best characters of those shows.
My guess for those character credits would be that the actors had really good agents when negotiating details.

I do think she was the best part of the show, because she seems more down to earth than the others and she doesn't whine like Tootie, Natalie and Blair, but I'd never really noticed a show billing someone with their character name after their name unless that character seemed to be more popular than the others. It just seemed strange to bill her as Jo and not bill the others as well.
Lorimar Television 06-26-2019, 11:45 PM Don't forget all the girls were credited with their character names in s1 too

They almost had to be there, so the audience could have an easier time telling who was who; after all, there were "too many girls" there at that girl's school. ;)
