Can't forget James Mason. I remember him as Captain Nemo in "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and the pedophile in the controversial 60s Stanley Kubrick film, "Lolita."

Yeah, I lived through the period (maybe 1968 - 1971 or so) in which the movie and the way it used some existing classical music was very famous. Kubric used various pieces of classical music in very creative ways, like "Thus Spake Zarathustra" by Wagner and "The Blue Danube" by Strauss (to make the spacecraft docking seem like a ballet). One of my favorite movies.

A little story for you...today in my subdivison there were 11 different cop cars, 8 down one street and 3 practically in my backyard since it faces a main road. The cops were surrounding this one house, they all had shotguns, apparently some guy was trying to commit suicide or something. It was really close to my house too, I could have seen it all personally if I just went outside but I was too scared too.

1) Some teachers are boring. Let's face the facts right now. Some are just boring. I know school isn't fun and games, but some teachers should teach some of the lessons in a fun manner (well as fun as you can get in a school building) It's just boring reading from a book and hearing a teacher go on and on and on.

2) I can't really speak about the homework deal. It really depends on which classes it was. Sometimes from some teachers, I'd rarely have homework. Others, I got loaded down. The way I looked at it is, if I fock this up, I'll just have to do it again or do it later. I might as well do it now.

3) Does your school have the 10 day per semester deal? I was in the same boat as you. I was awfully close to 10 days at times. Sometimes I would be sick, but other times I just wouldn't want to go to school.

4) Stop comparing yourself to your brother and sister. Just do the best that you can, try harder and just do the best you can. If you pull it up to a C, be happy. But if I were you, I'd just concentrate on you and your grades. Forget your brother and sister and the grades they pulled in.

I wish you the best of luck, Tim :bighug:

Thanks Jenny...and no, we don't have the 10 day per semester thing..We have 10 weeks per quarter.

Speaking as someone who's probably at least your mother's age, I have to say I remember having to put up with that stuff and it really sucks. Just remember that she is perfectly capable of being wrong about things. Don't let her psyche you into feeling guilty, if her logic doesn't make sense to you. If what she said was anything close to your first quotation, then it was very irresponsible of her.

Many people have things about their personalities that need work, but, even if that's got some truth to it, the way it was presented to you is so negative and insulting that it would tend to do more harm than good.

Ugh, I'm sorry you got it again. I only had one PE class in hs. We had the block scheduling thing (thank god). But I never dressed out for that PE class in hs or in middle school. I kept getting after school detentions for PE in middle school. My grade just got lowered in hs. I did pretty good in health class, so that pulled the grade up.

Hmm, I'm not sure what it's called aquaphobia I guess. But what if you were scared of being in lots of water? Taking a shower and bath wouldn't bother you because that's just a little water. But pools hold a lot of water. Would they still have made you swim if you said you had that kind of fear?

Mr. Stefani
08-21-2003, 12:24 AM
"Fulfilling the promise of his debut film, Little Odessa, 31-year-old writer-director James Gray proves himself a mature storyteller who attracts good actors and elicits their best work. Inspired by the experiences of his own father, Gray sets The Yards inside the corrupt workings of the New York City railway system, in which men such as Frank Olchin (James Caan) maintain their dominance by sabotaging the work of their competitors. Mark Wahlberg is well cast as Leo Handler, who serves jail time for a crime he didn't commit and returns home to a warm welcome from his ailing mother (Ellen Burstyn), his aunt Kitty (and Frank's wife, played by Faye Dunaway), and cousin Erica (Charlize Theron).
He's also welcomed by his friend Willie (Joaquin Phoenix), who does most of Uncle Frank's dirty work and brings the needy Leo into his lucrative fold. Things go from bad to worse, and Leo's suspected in the killing of a railway official and the beating of a city patrolman. On the run, he uncovers the political machinations that keep Uncle Frank in power, and The Yards unfolds as a compelling tale of family, twisted loyalties, and the quest for truth. There's stellar work from everyone involved, but if The Yards has one major flaw, it's that Gray directs with a solemnity that's almost off-putting, as if a moment of levity would violate his story's integrity. Visually The Yards invites comparison to The Godfather, and it boasts much of that film's moral complexity and depth of character, but it's too self-consciously heavy, and that compromises its overall impact. Still, this is good work from a talented director whose future films will be watched with interest. --Jeff Shannon --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Sounds pretty good. Hope it doesnt suck.

How do Broadway audiences compare with British?
They're very different. American audiences are very vocal, they're a lot louder. We seem to be terribly respectful, almost like the Japanese, you know - 'we don't want to disturb them'. The Americans are more boisterous but then they are as a nation.

WHAT?!!??!?!!?!?!

Why on earth copy the Rachel Hunter world map body-painting shot for a newspaper?
I was asked and thought it would be fun but it was one of the dullest things I've ever done. It was four hours of just standing while somebody paints you, which is really, really dull. All the blood goes to your feet and the bottom of your legs so you l ook like you've got sausages for legs, so it wasn't that flattering anyway.

And you had the Andes in your undies...
Exactly. But you're relaxed when you get painted, then when you go to get your photograph taken, you pull in the baby tummy to get a figure and Brazil ends up where Canada should have been. All in all, it was one of those shoots where I went: 'Right, best not do this three-and-a-half months after having a baby again.'

I could get away with it now that I'm on Paxil. Sure...I'm also scared of water...wink wink.
So you see, doctor, you've got to get me out of swimming class, because I'm absolutely terrified of water. I don't even drink the stuff. It's horrible, just horrible! Is that some water on the floor over there?

WHAT?!!??!?!!?!?!

Why on earth copy the Rachel Hunter world map body-painting shot for a newspaper?
I was asked and thought it would be fun but it was one of the dullest things I've ever done. It was four hours of just standing while somebody paints you, which is really, really dull. All the blood goes to your feet and the bottom of your legs so you l ook like you've got sausages for legs, so it wasn't that flattering anyway.

If I were pregnant, I'd be proud to have the baby tummy. You're pregnant, don't hide it.

When you tell the doctor this, if he tells you about 75% of your body or about two thirds of the Earth's surface being water, look absolutely horrified, like you've never heard it before and are about to faint.
