I know this question has been posted before, but that was a long time ago, and since there are new people on this board, like moi; I would like to know what everybody's favorite character is or is there a particular personality on the show that you dislike.

I think Luger is the funniest, James Gregory always steals the scene.

Levitt, he just annoys the heck out of me.
i especially hated it when he would come inside the squad room, and immediately start kiss Barney's behind.

Scanlon was nasty, but not as bad as Levitt, he was just HORRID, you could tell the boys, especially Harris, wanted to kick him in the :mooner:

Yeah I have that photo that was taken when he was filming The New Odd Couple with Demond (Lamont Sanford) Wilson in 1982/83.
I thought Ron was at his cutest during the 3rd season of Barney Miller, when he was 3o years old...

Well... this seems to be a "girl thread", but here I go!

My least favorite character is Det. Battista.

My favorite character is a tie between Dietrich and Luger, followed by Levitt...

Yes, Levitt. Many say they don't like him because he is annoying. Well, he IS supposed to be annoying! Actually I think there is a lot of depth to Levitt and as time progressed, he became more and more an integral part of the show to the point where he nearly steals the last episode! The show wouldn't have been what it was without Levitt.

I seem to be the only Battista advocate around here! She wasn't my favorite, but I didn't mind her as much as others do. I think I just appreciated it when Levitt says to her, "I'd be a detective right now if I was a woman." and Battista says, "You know, I understand things like that can be arranged."

And speaking of Levitt, I like him, too. I can understand how people can think he's annoying, but I just liked that the detectives had someone to kick around.

I didn't care for Detective Licori. She just didn't add anything at all to the squad. The only thing special about her was that she was a woman. With a huge purse. So Wojo walks in on her in the bathroom. That was funny, but it could have happened to any woman.

But I can't choose a favorite character. I love them all. :)

I actually liked Licori better than Battista. I don't know... Battista seemed too much like Wentworth Jr. to me, plus being a native Spanish speaker, her fake Spanish accent kind of annoyed me. I think they kind of missed the boat with Licori. There could have been a lot of possibilities with her character, starting with the jealous husband thing. Her interaction with the others was pretty interesting; she wanted to be trusted and considered part of the group, yet she didn't really go out of her way to try and accomplish that, she just was herself. Remember when she brought the flower and put it in Nick's desk (and how everyone kept remembering Nick!). She also had this air of insecurity and mistrust about her (without being an evil person), and that made for a couple of funny situations, particularly in conversations with Barney... but what do I know! I'm not writing any shows at the moment! :) Mari Gorman (the actress' name) had to be well-liked by the show's creators since she appeared as 3 different characters: Pre-Licori, she was the Connecticut housewife who gave prostitution a try. Post-Licori, she played Bruno Bender's wife and even made it unto the last episode.

No, seriously, I'm just a big fan. And, yeah, I've also really smart and occasionally sharp-witted, so I guess I'm a bit of a female Dietrich myself.
(And as for that particular episode... let's just say it should be enforcable by federal law that some guys should not be allowed to wear a dress. Period.)

Actually...I'm a bit of a Dietrich/Wentworth combination...the Wentworth part of me being the fact that I speak my mind, often without thinking (which has gotten me in trouble XP)

I think Wentworth is the only female cop I wish had stuck around. She was all right, IMO.

Personally, I didn't think Levitt was as bad as Wojo and Fish 0.0

Ron did look good...I loved his reaction to their flirting

"Well I wanna look good...but not better"

I loved Dietrich's fliration...I don't remember all the dialogue, but he says something along the lines of

"have you seen (this movie)/there's this movie about (a man/cop?) who falls in love with a woman he knows he can never have."

Harris: So?

hehehe-that's probably true. I loved the eps where they were living together. I've been so depressed about that. Especially since I didn't get to finish taping the episodes (I slept through Chinatown part 2 -_-)

heh-now that the show's not running I figured 'well...at least I can get to bed at a decent hour'...but I can't get to sleep at all.

I'm determined to get the episodes I lost/missed (like I accidently recorded over Election...and it had been on that morning...and missed Uniform Day because of a power failure, etc...)

We should demand they do a marathon of Barney Miller. Or I'd settle for them playing the episodes I missed XP

My favorite episode is stress analyzer. I love how they all react when they think Dietrich is dead. The episode that really makes me mad is the one where Dietrich shot the guy. I didn't like the way they all surrounded him and attacked him. There are times for tough love and this wasn't one of those times.

Least Favorite: Scanlon, Fish. It's less to do with the character, and more to do with the way Abe Vigoda tended to turn to the audience to deliver a punch line, instead of looking at the cast member that he was supposed to be talking to. It just bugged me.
