View Full Version : Copycats
Teddy02 08-06-2003, 11:56 AM Everyone here knows Cheers is absolutely the best show there ever was, obviously. Anyway, to get to the actual topic I was watching t.v yesterday, Will and Grace to be exact, and I noticed that they copied a story line from Cheers! It's when Will and Grace both want a baby so they decide to have one together, but not be "together". Copied straight from Cheers!!! Can anyone else think of a show where they copied a story line or something else from Cheers?
*i know this isn't the most interesting post but i really am very bored right now :o
barwars 08-06-2003, 12:34 PM I think James Burrows (one of the creators of Cheers), is a director on Will & Grace.
onefortheroad 08-06-2003, 12:37 PM on one episode of Seinfeld; Jerry and Elaine were fighting and it reminded me of sam and diane's. jerry and elaine had eachother's fingers pointed in eachother's face and they were both saying "get your finger out of my face" they both stopped for a second but started right up again. kinda like I'll be Seeing You (2), but with pointing instead of slaps.
onefortheroad 08-06-2003, 12:39 PM the episode of wings where helen was up in the plane, and the pilot was dead and she had to land it herself. even though in Fear is my Co-Pilot, he wasn't really dead, it was still the same kind of thing
CheersChild4life 08-06-2003, 01:31 PM There was a Seinfeld ep. but I can't remember it.
DansonQueen 08-07-2003, 03:26 AM Burrows IS a director (or something) on Will & Grace. It makes Woody Harrelson's appearences more convenient ;)
A lot of shows run similar storylines, based on the successes they've had on other shows.
I know this will probably make a lot of people on this board angry, or at least stir up something, but I find MANY parallels between Cheers and Friends. Also there are parts of Cheers that are similar to other shows before Cheers (of course I cant come up with anything SPECIFIC now) It's the actors delivery of the lines, and the different ways the jokes are handled that make the same situation work in so many different shows.
CheersChild4life 08-07-2003, 09:57 AM On third rock from the sun Dick and Mary are fighting and then they're like are you as hungry as I am then Mary's like more then they drop to their knees and eat. Kinda like showdown
onefortheroad 08-07-2003, 01:04 PM yeah i remember a few episodes of freinds which reminded me of cheers episodes
onefortheroad 08-07-2003, 01:05 PM cheers was definitly an inspiration for shows like friends and seinfeld, where the 'friends' are so close, it's almost like one big, funny family
