The scene begins in a dimly lit resteraunt. Nate is sitting at a table by the window, looking for CD. Suddenly, his phone rings. He answers it quickly.
"CD?" he says.
"It's Kate," replies Kate, the captain of the SFPD where Nate and CD work as inspectors.
"Hey Captain, what's going on?" he asks, a little annoyed that she'd call at such a time.
"You might want to come to the hospital," Kate replies, "Something happened."
"What?"
"I'll explain when you get here."
Nate hears the dial tone. His pulse raises. He quickly grabs his coat but doesn't bother to put it on as he jumps in the car. He drives off quickly and heads for the nearest hospital. When he gets there he sees Kate sitting near the entrance waiting.
"What happened?" he asks. He notices his voice is shaky and Kate looks upset.
"The new inspector was found dead in her apartment," Kate replies, "The cops found the body after a neighbor heard gunshots and called 911."
"Oh." Nate sighs with relief but sees Kate still looks unnerved.
"There's something else," she says, "CD was also found in the apartment."
"Oh my god, is she alright?" Nate sits in a nearby chair and looks up at Kate.
"They found her unconcious and had surgery to remove the bullet. Though it went well, she hasn't woken up. They think she's in a coma and don't know yet."
"Can I see her?"
"That's why I called you."
"Thanks captain." Nate slowly walks up to a nurse and finds out what room CD is in. He goes in and sees her laying in bed, and for the first time knows in his heart that she's the woman he'll always love. He starts to pull up a chair next to her but instead sits on the edge of her bed. He takes her hand and just watches her. A nurse walks in to give her medication and smiles at him.
"She can hear us," the nurse says, "So talk to her, it might help."
Nate nods and the nurse leaves.
"Hey CD," Nate says, trying to sound normal. "I thought you stood me up. When Kate told me what happened, I got this feeling I'd never had before. I just froze, the tone in her voice...Then when she explained everything I hated that woman so much, the woman that hurt you. Anyone who will stop us from being together doesn't deserve to be alive. They don't deserve happiness. But you do. You have so much left that I'm going to give you. If you could just open your eyes and tell me that we're going to be together for the rest of our lives, I'd love that more then anything in the world."
Nate turns towards the doorway that Kate's leaning on, smiling at them. "Keep going," she says.
"It's my turn," CD replies. He lifts her hand up and pulls Nate in for a kiss. When it's over she kisses him again and asks, "Was that a proposal?"
"Yeah," Nate replies, smiling.
"Then yes, I'll spend the rest of my life with you. I'd love to marry you."
"I don't have a ring yet," Nate says, laughing.
"This'll make it official," CD replies, then they kiss again. Meanwhile Kate walks back into the hallway and the nurse grabs her arm.
"She's awake?" the nurse asks.
"Yes," Kate replies.
"I just got her test results back," the nurse says, "And if she's awake and talking..."
"Don't forget kissing," Kate replies.
"And that," the nurse says, "She's going to be fine."
"CD?" he says.
