View Full Version : Was there a mention of how the Bunkers got around the city since they had no TVFactFan 08-02-2003, 10:41 AM car? Was it public transportation? or cabs? Mr. Television 08-02-2003, 12:22 PM I know they took subways and Archie did drive a cab. TVFactFan 08-02-2003, 12:28 PM Originally posted by mr roper I know they took subways and Archie did drive a cab. i thought they lived in the suburbs. and usually you need a car in the burbs. No subways in the burbs KayEn78 08-02-2003, 02:28 PM From what I remember, Archie drove a cab. To go futher places (like New Jersey) they took the bus. When going to the store, I think they walked. When Archie and Gloria went to work everyday, they took the subway. There must've been a subway station nearby. Archie did have a car once (remember in "Archie the Gambler") Edith explained that they had a used car when they lived on Union Street. She thought a man had stolen it one day, but Archie he had gambled it away to him. Most people do not have a car if they live in or near the city. I think they lived very near the city so they didn't need a car. Public transportation was always there. Hope this helps. :) -Kristi TVFactFan 08-02-2003, 02:32 PM Originally posted by KayEn78 From what I remember, Archie drove a cab. To go futher places (like New Jersey) they took the bus. I do know, though, that bus routes connect to subway routes. It's all in the plan. So, just because they didn't live next to the subway does not mean that they didn't have access to, and made frequent use of, the subway. I'm just sayng most suburban residents drive ConservativeBalla 08-05-2003, 11:07 AM Archie moonlighted in a cab. To get to the store, they walked. To go out of town, they took a bus. To get somehwere fast, they took a cab. (i.e. emergencies mostly) To get somewhere else besides the places above, they took the subway. Bunker fan 08-07-2003, 03:01 AM I believe it was mentioned several times in the show that they lived in Queens. Moonlight Lady 08-08-2003, 12:53 PM The Bunkers and the Stivics lived in the Astoria section of Queens, which was near Corona, Long Island City, Sunnyside and Woodside and I think Bayside. I think a subway station was within walking distance to their house. I don't mean necessarily the whole story. Maybe just say when Mike or Gloria or Edith walk in the door they might make a comment about something they did or saw on the subway. Anyone remember any subway stories or complaints or comments about subway experiences? TVFactFan 08-09-2003, 08:58 PM Originally posted by Kitt Thanks Katie. That makes sense. Yeah, I thought I remembered them all (especially Archie)l sitting together on the subway. I hope someone will recall for us why Mike hit the guy and what happened. I remember that but I don't know what it was about or how it ended. Maybe the guy took Gloria's seat and got nasty about it? KayEn78 08-10-2003, 12:42 PM In several other episodes when Archie or Gloria would come home from work, they'd tell their subway stories. -Kristi ConservativeBalla 08-11-2003, 02:37 PM :eek2: MIKE hit someone? Noooo!!!! Not MIKE!!? Anyways, yeah, like KayEn said, Archie pretty often tells his "Subway Horror Stories"; Archie: Oh jeez, comin' home on the subway, some guy decides to throw himself on the tracks...holds the whole thing up for 30 minutes. He can't do it in the middle of the day, he's gotta pick the rush hour. sinatrastar 08-11-2003, 03:46 PM I remember a lot of Subway complaints. It was the suburbs (meaning not directly in the cuty) but not the kind of suburbs today where everything is miles away from where the houses are. It was a more compact type urban area. Mike, Gloria and Archie were on their way to The Bronx to look at a house that Mike and Gloria were interested in buying. At one stop, an arguing couple gets on. At some point during the ride, the wife makes a comment about the husband's mother and he hits her with flowers. The arguing gets worse, Gloria gets nervous, Mike gets annoyed, the guy get's nasty towards Gloria, I think maybe he shoved her, and Mike punched him in the face. It's been awhile since I've seen this episode. sinatrastar 08-18-2003, 02:38 PM Hey Katie - who is that hot girl in the picture behind the rabbit? Just another amusement park patron, i'm guessing. Brian Damage 08-18-2003, 06:23 PM Queens is a suburb/city that has plenty of subways and bus routes available. You don't need a car to live in Queens. Moonlight Lady 08-18-2003, 09:10 PM Originally posted by Brian Damage Queens is a suburb/city that has plenty of subways and bus routes available.
