View Full Version : The Time Warp anyone? DianeChambers87 07-31-2003, 01:00 PM As far as musicals about transvestite Aliens go, Rocky Horror is the best! Anyone agree? disagree? webuster 07-31-2003, 03:53 PM I 100% agree with you Ms Chambers. Have you just seen rocky horror or have you been a fan for a while? I bought it a year ago and still haven't seen it in cinema, or the stage. Don't dream it be it. But when it comes to movies about Germans with very white skin, Reality TV and Little Black Dresses- (not to mention a primadoona j-lo lead actress) then Shock Treatment is the best. DianeChambers87 07-31-2003, 04:07 PM I bought the dvd lol its great Dammit Janet webuster 07-31-2003, 05:09 PM Sadly I lost the 2 disc dvd like 2 months ago,and after many efforts to find it I'm probably just gonna buy a new one. I miss some of those special features. Especially audio commentary. How'd you get into rocky horror? Crimson and Clover 07-31-2003, 05:13 PM i agree. i love Rocky Horror DianeChambers87 07-31-2003, 05:19 PM Passed down..lol My dad loved Rocky Horror when he was a teen. and he always had the sound track, so I knew the music before the movie. one day last november I am walking around in blockbuster and see it...and then remember the time warp (the song) so I rent it and LOVE it then I get all of my closest friends into it...and then after renting it about 5 times decided to buy it! lol DianeChambers87 07-31-2003, 05:19 PM :double post: sorry i have no idea why this posted twice... webuster 07-31-2003, 05:33 PM I came across Rocky Horror again one day searching actors on imdb.com- and I briefly remembered seeing rocky horror in the tv guide months before, and a substitute teacher mentioning it. Then at a video store (one of those stores like 'comic book guys' selling less known or cultfilms) and saw the rocky horror poster. I also remember seeing the DVD in a store by accident, and just after this I went on a hunt to buy the video- which I finally found back at the video store. By the time I watched the video enough I went to get the dvd- and all the stores with loads of copies had none. I ordered the dvd online then- and weeks later all the stores got it back in. conspiracy. It's actually kinda weird then on how I got into the film. Have you seen the sequel yet dianechambers? DianeChambers87 07-31-2003, 05:35 PM there's a sequel? Oh and btw my actual name is Maria:D webuster 07-31-2003, 05:51 PM I just usually refer to people by usernames, cos when I read threads and ppl refer to each other with real names I'm confused. Yes there is a sequel- well,Richard O'Brien the writer calls it an equal. It's the continuing adventures of Brad and Janet. Called 'Shock Treatment'. If youwatch this film (you can't really rent it now- i just took the risk and bought it) watch it at least 3 times to get used to it. It has practically nothing to do with rocky horror apart from Brad and Janet, Ralph and Betty (betty is played by ruby wax, they're both separated). Betty dates Judge Oliver Wright- played by Charles Gray. And Pat Quinn and Richard O'Brien play brother and sister Cosmo and Nation McKinley- hosts of a reality hospital series. It's very complicated- the songs are great (obrien thinks the soundtracks better than rocky horror- though it's kinda hard now to get the soundtrack, it may have went out of print a few months ago) but I've been setting up a website to explain the film. Though the best Shock Treatment site is www.shocktreatmentnetwork.com I don't recommend comparing it to rocky horror- I merely brought it up because it's of interest to most rocky fans- if you go to rockynewsgroups.com it is a popular subject along with rocky horror. Richard O'Brien did have an original sequel written but a producer recommended it didn't get made- but it's now being made into a play(supposedly). If you join rockynewsgroup.com and inquire about 'Rocky Horror Shows His Heels' they'll give you a link to the 'original sequel' plot DianeChambers87 07-31-2003, 05:53 PM Were the actors that played Brad, Janet, Ralph, and betty in rocky horror the same ones as in Shock treatment? webuster 07-31-2003, 06:02 PM The same person plays Ralph (he's actually the only character from rocky horror to return and be played by the same actor- though there was a rumour judge wright was the unnamed 'criminologist') Ruby Wax is a better Betty- with her magic hairpin I think Jessica Harpers singing has grown on me and it's better than Susan Sarandons. Brad isn't as good- but the guy (cliff deyoung) who plays him also plays Brad's long lost twin brother- who is a great character Barry Humphries (dame edna) plays a TV host who is pretending to be blinding Rik Mayall (drop dead fred, bottom) plays Nurse Ansalongsboyfrind and Little Nell returns as Nurse Ansalong- nation and cosmo's assistant- but it's a very small role that should've been expanded You meet Janet's parents too. The whole town lives off of a tv station run by brad's brother farley, and even sleep in the seats during tapins of shows. If you visit shock treatment network try downloading songs from the film from audio clips, but you really need to see the film to appreciate the soundtrack. I reccomend you download Little Black Dress and 'Look what i did to my ID' dandelion wine 08-01-2003, 02:53 AM Rocky Horror rules! webuster 08-01-2003, 02:28 PM Rocky Horror rules! wooo-hoooooooooooooooo! Maria for a better synopsis (there aren't many on the internet) go to http://www.rockyhorror.com/shkintro.html I found out about shock treatment on the official rocky horror site- when they linked to a page about shock treatment, and I didn't know what it was- it scared me, so I searched imdb.com onefortheroad 08-02-2003, 03:34 AM i havent seen either of them but i want to, they look interesting webuster 08-02-2003, 07:38 AM onefortheroad- you say you're 15 minutes from Boston in your 'location' well then you may actually be lucky enough to see rocky horror on the big screen because Boston is a big city and most big cities in the US have a rocky horror picture show cast. But a cast acts in front of the screen, and if there are enough in the cinema, because everyone shouts lines back at the film (audience participation) throw toast at the screen etc- you won't be able to hear the film. You'd probably be better of renting it first to appreciate the music. And if anyone is near Kansas City next year in june there's a Shock Treatment only convention, with two actresses from the film- and they're showing the movie (along with another of the actress movies which I haven't seen- Phantom of the Paradise- but they're still voting if it should be that film or 'South Park' or 'The Goonies') If you plan on going to the conventions you should probably see the film first- cos they have weird competitions like karaoke from the film (and they give out oscar (drill) statues with straight-jackets on) For years my video library had rocky horror and I always looked at the cover, but I thought it was a vampire movie (it was back in the day were I only read the first to lines of the back of a video) and I hated horror- so I never rented, then wen I wanted to rent it the tape had been missing for a month. I love Rocky Horror. The movie's a ton of fun, but the stage show is the best! We had the London West End Revival tour through Freiburg, it was fantastic! Also, gotta love the new soundtracks. I've got the soundtrack to the movie, the new broadway cast, and the european tour. Hehe, it's addictive! webuster 08-02-2003, 05:11 PM I still don't own the soundtrack to rocky horror- yet I own the shock treatment soundtrack. I bought it of amazon around christmas, yet I'm told the soundtracks been out of print a while- maybe they're allowed to get rid of what's in their warehouse, then again I bought the soundtrack from UK amazon, they call it an import, so technically it's not out of print in uk as long as copies are left. If you're on imdb anyway all movie soundtracks are only under the US option. Maria, it's unlikely Shock Treatment is in your rental store, unless it is one with many rare films, although most places keep a stock of relatively rare films, Shock Treatment is MEGA unheard of. It was played in only a few places in the US. If you do buy a copy of the film don't buy it on ebay- they all say it's out of print but it definitely isnt. The UK copy IS out of print, I put a bid on an australian copy- the only VHS of Shock Treatment to include the trailer- but I lost :( And fans are still bugging FOX for the DVD of Shock Treatment, hoping the convention will persuade them. Liza- since you're obviously a fan of Cabaret, an article in the paper about Kelly Osbourne on stage said 'Kelly looks more like Rocky Horror than Cabaret. She might be trying to follow in Liza Minelli's steps, but she looks like she's trying out for Frank'N'Furter.' I wish I'd have seen the stage play when it was on tour in Belfasr, but isnt it over 18 only? The only place rocky horror plays run regularly is London. I heard some of the stage songs- the stage version (Tim Curry) of 'I'm Going Home' is far better. Also dianechambers- have you heard any of the shock treatment songs? There's a rocky horror boxset with two discs, including songs from international casts and other songs from the films cast- including 3 shock treatment songs. DianeChambers87 08-02-2003, 05:20 PM No i haven't heard any songs form shock treatment. I have the original soundtrack from the movie (both the cd and the record). webuster 08-02-2003, 05:28 PM go to www.shocktreatmentnetwork.com/audio and you can download clips of songs- I think 'Look What I did to my ID' 'Shock Treatment' 'Little Black Dress' and 'Lullaby' are my favourites. Almost all the songs are fantastic, so download any or all. Knock Yourself Out! p.s- If you download 'look what i did to my ID' it starts halfway thru the song, and the squeaky voice you hear first is Little Nell- though in the film she is unrecogniseable (She has VERRRY long and brown hair in a ponytail, and her face is different) DianeChambers87 08-02-2003, 05:29 PM Originally posted by webuster go to www.shocktreatmentnetwork.com/audio and you can download clips of songs- I think 'Look What I did to my ID' 'Shock Treatment' 'Little Black Dress' and 'Lullaby' are my favourites. DianeChambers87 08-02-2003, 05:37 PM lol bitchin in the kitchen is pretty funny! DianeChambers87 08-02-2003, 05:40 PM Still though nothing beats "science fiction", "the time warp", "Sweet Transvestite", "Toucha toucha touch me", "the floor show", "whatever happened to those saturday nights?" ...etc... webuster 08-02-2003, 05:44 PM bitchin in the kitchen is good- when i heard denton usa before seeing the film I thought everyone was a hillbilly. The entire film is inside a tv studio- it was originally going to be shot on locations around 'Denton' but the budget was severely cut. I think it's for the better. Also there's alot of product placement it seems in the film- there's a tv show called 'Happy Homes' where a Married couple live in a house full of cameras (like a 2 person big brother) and it has brands of beer and it zooms in a little on Kellogs Corn Flakes. The guy Bert Schnick has an overly white face, and his make-up artist always happens to be carrying some brand of washing powder- can't remember the name webuster 08-02-2003, 05:49 PM For me it's a draw for which film I like more-Shocky or ROCKY. The rocky horror fan club made a documentary of the making of shock treatment, taping on the set of the film- it's being shown at sopme conventions. You really need to hear the songs entirely, and see them in the movie to appreciate them fully. I'm kinda annoyed that shock treatment never succeeded- so i'm one that continually tries to get it on a good dvd (half as good as the rocky horror dvd would be fantastic) with hopefulyl some advertising. It's thought that to increase sales Fox could release Shock Treatment in a box-set with rocky horror. I think it's a good idea but the film should also be brought out separately for those who don't want to buy another dvd of rocky horror. If it is ever on dvd- they'll use the whole 'sequel of rocky horror' to get popularity. Anyhow Anyhow- I was addicted to that song. That segment of the film is so carefree with everyone jumping around on the tv studio set singing, much less serious than the rest of the film. DianeChambers87 08-03-2003, 11:42 AM This is a pic of my cd cover webuster 08-03-2003, 04:07 PM How long ago did you buy the album? Is that one still in print? It's basically the best rocky horror album cover out there. None of the albums have Planet Schmanet Janet on them, and I can neve rfind a recording of the song with the whole 'Don't get hot and flustered' bit in it http://www.shocktreatmentnetwork.com/janet2.jpg DianeChambers87 08-03-2003, 04:43 PM The record was bought in the 70s the cd I would assume early 90s...? I don't know it was my dads. It does not have "don't get hot and flustered" on it I don't know why! It's one of my fav. from the movie... |
