Tim Burton is reported to be choosing between 2 people for the role of Willy Wonka- Christopher Walken and Michael Keaton. What's your oppinion on this all. I personally want neither of them to do the film, because Michael Keaton, I think- doesn't have the right look, and he seems better in laugh out loud, OTT comedy roles- which Willy Wonka isn't. And Christopher Walken(sp?) just looks far too frightening, and a bit old, to play Willy Wonka. In the book I know the descriptions a little different, but Walken seems like the type of guy that would be a nightmare villain for kids, not Willy Wonka- he just seems too stern.
It seems it could be a weakness for Burton that he always wants to work with many of the same people.

So- my vote- Neither of the two actors.

I agree. Both actors are not right for the part. I know Walken can sing and dance, but he's too old. Michael Keaton? No way. Burton was lucky he got away with casting him as Batman, but he's all wrong for Willy Wonka.

What about Mike Meyers?

Matthew Broderick has some Broadway experience, he might work out.

What about Johhny Depp?
He's done wonderful work with Burton before. I think he could pull it off.

Yikes, no to both choices. I can't see Keaton or Walken as Wonka. Just no way.

Here are some suggestions:

Johnny Depp (the ultimate freak player)
-oops TJL already mentioned this

Brad Pitt (kooks out well in 12 Monkeys)

Alan Rickman (plays good and bad great, he would work )

Oliver Platt (something boisterous about him)

Tom Hanks (too obvious, but can play anything, and lots of fun)

Benicio Del Toro (wild card, great actor, great presence)

Just thought I would bump this thread up to say that according to a recent article on the IMDB websight, Johnny Depp is now in contention for the role of Willy Wonka.

Direct the god-damned sequel before you even think of touching a remake of the original. I want to see what the Knids look like on film- or a 400 year old lady.

Ah okay I didn't even know they were remaking this movie.. Well I love this movie, and personally I don't think it should ever be remade. But, can someone please post any articles or anything they've found about it?

Ya know, I like that idea. Kevin Spacey would be pretty good.

Can he sing?

Willy Wonka should be Gene Wilder and Gene Wilder ONLY. However, I know that Gene is having problems lately and can't do it... so, my suggestions are:

~David Spade (a little skinny, hyper man, just like the description in the book.)
~Alan Rickman (I personally think he could play ANY role.)

Why do they want to make a remake so sinister- after all the story isn't very sinister itself. Alan Rickman looks a little scary- then again this film may require alot of Hollywood makeup- who knew when they were casting 'The Hours' that Nicole Kidman could oplay the role she was cast in- it must take sum weird eye for things to be a person in charge of casting.

Yeah, I agree. I mean, look at Fred Gynne as Herman. Back during the actual time of The Munsters, he was actually somewhat halfway handsome-looking. Then look at his character.

Anything can be done with makeup. :talk:

It's official- Warner Bros has offered Johnny Depp the Willy Wonka role. Now his lawyers are in talkes with WB to do the film. This probably means now it'll be a sinister film- Depp looks too young to play Wonka- though like I say- makeup might make it work. I'm not sure if he'd be good at acting as Wonka either- so maybe it will be sinister.

Why can't they just leave kids movies alone?

How about Johnny Depp?

That's the ONLY way I would watch a remake of WW!

Heh...me too.

No, really, I don't really like Willy Wonka, I just thought it was blah. HOWEVER, if Johnny Depp was Willy Wonka I would LOOOOVE to see it! And I think he would be pretty good. Ya know...b/c I thought the character he played in POTC was kinda like Willy Wonka in some ways. I think he'd be perfect.
