The Cosby show is one of the greatest tv shows ever, if not the greatest.Just keep watching, u'll see that it is one of the most realistic well rounded show ever.

I would disagree that it's the best ever, (cough cough Cheers cough cough) but it's up there in the top twenty. I do agree though that they completely over play it. Where I live It's played at least 8 times a day in different stations, and 4 of those times is on Nick at Nite. I have seen every single episode around 6 times, and have only been watching it since 2001. I don't even watch it anymore..

I love The Cosby Show, i could watch every episode and still not get bored with it. I've never really watched Cheers so I wouldn't know if it is good or not but I'm guessing it must be since it has a dvd out already! Unlike The Cosby Show

Oh it is....trust me it is! lol Let me just say this for Cheers, it had 11 seasons (the second most long running sitcom in history, Mash was first), However it beat Mash because it had more episodes per season so when Mash finished it had 250 episodes Cheers had 275, And the very last episode was just as good as the first one! Every single episode is great! It quit while it was still on top, it could have still gone on for a 12 season in the Nielson top 10

Ozzie and Harriett 435 (1952-1966)

the cosby show is one of the most well rounded show's i've ever seen. the history and story's behind each character was well thought out. THough the family did stuff that maybe not every family would do, it wasn't so unorthodox that a regular family couldn't do it. If they would, is different.

i've seen cheers a few times, and it's sort of funny, not my cup of tea though, maybe cuz i'm not an alcoholic like all of those guys in the show.

and i think i've figured out why cheers has a dvd and the cosby show doesn't. cheers doesn't make any more money off of people watching it on tv anymore so they put it on dvd to get some dough out of it. But with the cosby show, they are still raking in the cash, that's why alot of networks still broadcast it. if they put it out on dvd, then people would have no need to watch it on tv cuz they have the dvd's and they wouldn't make money anymore.
makes much more sense now..

That's not true, 60 minutes interviewed James Burrows recently (the creator of Cheers) and they were asking him about how much he get's paid for syndication, he wouldn't say because it was a lot (his own words) he doesn't like to talk about that amount of money. Then the interviewer said something like (it's not an exact quote but this is what he got across)"Well it must be a lot since Cheers is number one in syndication and is doing EXTREMELY well on Nick at Nite....

It is out on DVD because of the fact that they KNEW it would make a lot of money, because it does so well on Nick...

You apparently were not watching closely, there is ONE alcoholic in Cheers who does NOT drink, and that's Sammy the owner of the bar. It's a show about a family, maybe not your regular mom, dad and kids family, but a family nonetheless. Plus I would love to have the sexual tension between Cliff and Clair, compete with the historic sexual tension between Sam and Diane...

Oh yea and something I forgot to add, the presence of mr. cosby in nickelodeon is a bit strong. He owns stock in the company, and you can tell that he has some authority over what goes on in there because We have on nick jr. "little bill", "Kids Say the Darnest things" which is NOT a tv. Classic or even sitcom for that matter, and the "Cosby show" on for two hours a night plus now in the summer marathons you guys get one hour regardless. Plus he announced an adult cartoon for Nick at nite, created by himself.....hmmm.....makes you wonder a little bit? The fact that new shows kept coming in last fall and most of the other shows got pushed back and cosby was given an extra hour? The fact that kids say the darnest things kept coming back and forth to the 9-10 timeslot and moving cosby to the 10-11 slot...but then was always after at least 2 weeks quickly moved back when they realized nobody was watching kids say...?

I'm not saying the cosby show is not a good show, again It's in the top 20 ever, but it seems to me that the studios are a bit influenced by Mr. Cosby...and you all know what I'm talking about because I have seen you guys debate over his trying to control lisa bonet...Theo's friend...and over every aspect of the show......

As i did say before i watched a few times and it's not my cup of tea so of course i was not watching closely. But if people have to find a family in their bar then they're either really lonely or an alcoholic.Or socially inept.
And i'm not too sure about that number one syndication thing, very very hard to believe. Or for that matter the info on COsby's stock in N@N
And correct me if i'm wrong(please), they haven't had a reunion show yet, right? I guess there's not enough interest for NBC to put money into it.
And can you please tell me if cheers comes on any other channel than nick at nite? Or is N@N the only network willing to pay for it?
Not saying it was a bad show but not my cup of tea.

Thanks for the support "fear the mullet".

Ok I know that this is the Cosby thread, but this discussion got a little carried away. I do like the Cosby show and by saying that I LOVE cheers i'm not putting it down. COsby is a good show, again one of the best.

To answer your question about the reunion, they had a miniature reunion going on the "NBC 75th anniversary" and am sure NBC will give them a reunion when the time comes.

Cheers is on the WB...and I know there's more it's just that where I live they don't show them , except on N@N but other Cheers fans could help you there.

When I said it was #1 in syndication, I didn't say it the interviewer guy did, he meant that whichever station it's showing on it's making ALOT of money.

Again I am not putting the Cosby show down, I am answering to some statements. I do like the Cosby show, and feel that if I want to could be here to discuss it with you guys because well as I said before i've seen every episode. But, unless this discussion goes on I won't mention Cheers again...

That's ok, I'm sorry too. I guess we all got a little carried away. Hey we all have different taste, and certainly mine isn't the only one, what you have to understand though is I use to really LOVE the Cosby show like you did about 2 years ago, but Nick at Nite killed it for me...they completely over played it. The thing with Cheers is that it has 11 seasons and Nick NEVER shows them in order, so there are still episodes I haven't seen. Plus it's a completely different type of show. Like if you are into Wings and Taxi, watch Cheers. Taxi is considered the father to Cheers, but it isn't as good, Wings is pretty good, but Cheers is the better one out of the genre. imo

lol Fear the Mullet, If one day you want to relax, have a beer where everybody knows your name, come! Everyone's always welcome:)

lol oh yea and btw if you do decide to stop by please please please...never compare Cheers to friends...I got so pissed when they compared themselves to Cheers at the NBC 75th anniversary.......friends...is about a group of friends that live together....and they act like they are in their early 20s when they're all like in their 40s. Cheers is about Adults in their 30s going to work every day, who form a family..

lol I just wanted to answer to this, they ARE socially inept. In the words of Ted Danson "We are a bunch of losers banded together agaisnt society". That's what makes them so lovable, the fact that their lives are screwed up and most of them don't care, most of them are content with going to Cheers drinking a few beers playing a few games of pool and watching whatever drama or thing is going on in the bar that day. Like and you really can't relate to any of the characters...but you can..and you love them... you know? Like one of the things I loved about cosby was that since I am in a family I can relate to all the things that happen with my sisters and my parents, In fact before I even saw the Cosby show (I love to watch stand up) I saw the 2 hour special that bill did called "Bill Cosby: himself" and it was made in 1981 before the Cosby show. It is one of the funniest Stand up routines that I have EVER seen, really if you love the cosby show I completely recommend you go out and get this video. In his special EVERY single thing that he would say on the cosby show he said on that special, the only difference was that on the special he was really talking about his wife and five kids. So you can tell that the Cosby show IS Bill's creation because he modeled it almost exactly after his family. Usually I don't like shows I can't relate to, but the thing with Cheers is you don't feel like it's show it looks like you are watching a bunch of insane, different people live their everyday lives...which happen to be extremely entertaining.

Many people consider The Cosby Show as one of the best shows of all time. That is why it is played so much. I see it 5 times a day where I live(excluding the N@N marathon). I think Cheers is a great show , but like TCS is better. Cheers is a very realistic show and I think The Cosby Show is too. They are both equal in their greatness. I just find TCS more entertaining.
