View Full Version : Signature image limit is around 50k - post violators here
I thought I would make another topic since apparently some people can't read, the max size for signature images is around 50k.. if you are a little over that, that's ok.. but if you are way up over 80k and bigger, you need to make it smaller and reupload it.
If you are in violation, you will be warned once. If you continually abuse the rule, you will have your signature option revoked and you will not be able to edit your profile.
Do not ruin this for everybody.

Czas na Zywiec 07-05-2003, 11:51 PM Thank you TJ once more! I've seen a number of people have pictures that don't look less than 50KB. :p People never learn.

Yours is ok, it is under 10k.
As I said in another thread, you can right click on an image with your mouse and then go to 'Properties' and it will tell you how big the image is in kbs.
Tuesday Weld 07-05-2003, 11:57 PM Can someone give me an example of what size a 50K image would be??

It depends on the image.

Yes, it always depends on the image. If you're not sure, just put the image in your sig, go to a post of yours, right click on it, click properties, and you can see how big it is.

Most large animations and pictures in high quality are over 50 K.
Tuesday Weld 07-06-2003, 12:07 AM Well, when I click on properties,it gives me the bytes size and the pixels dimensions size,so how does that translate into K?
Czas na Zywiec 07-06-2003, 12:09 AM Like in math. 10000K = 1KB So if you have something like 23964, it's acceptable. 67346, however, would not.
Warm & Fuzzy 07-06-2003, 12:10 AM Originally posted by vintagetvgirl

Sitcomwriter 07-06-2003, 12:28 AM This is why I'm playing it safe with a very, very small one LOL.
pandora_spocks 07-06-2003, 12:33 AM Is my blend of Liz okay? I tried to reduce the quality in Photoshop, but if I go too far down it's gonna come out looking really bad. Also, I've been wanting to ask this, but what if I direct link images from my website is that better than uploading them here?
vienna waits 07-06-2003, 01:14 AM mines barely over... even tho its fairly small.
spunkygirl 07-06-2003, 01:38 AM I hope mine's okay, it was much bigger than this, but I reduced it by quite a bit.
Brandon 07-06-2003, 01:49 AM if i change my png file to jpg, will it be 50k okay?
Kristen 07-06-2003, 01:52 AM Is my image OK? I clicked "Properties" and did the math, and if I'm correct, it's only around 12k. Granted, I never was an expert, so I'm just gonna double-check. Let me know if it's not and I'll shrink it.

PZelda 07-06-2003, 02:50 AM Great, I should be alright. If I did my math correctly, both images combined are less than 25kb in size. I had to convert my first image to a JPG because I was waaaaaaay over.

Yes you are correct... As Transit Whiz Said Just divide each by a thousand, or think of a thousand bytes as a KB (So if it says 20,000 bytes then its 20KB obviously)
¤Graced¤ 07-06-2003, 11:31 AM I'm pretty sure I'm okay because I was so fanatical yesterday about having a small enough siggy pic.
anaïsFANxx 07-06-2003, 11:35 AM i made a new banner i hope it's not over 50, i dont think it is, 'cause its really small.

How are all you guys putting your pictures up?
Czas na Zywiec 07-06-2003, 03:43 PM You can check yourself you know....
Right Click on the image.
Click on Properties.
Go down to the fourth item, Size.
It's going to look like this. Size: 13275 bytes.
I'll make it easy. If it's less than 50000 bytes, you're okay. If it's more than 50000 bytes, you're not okay. And if you have two, they have to equal to 50000 bytes. You can use a calculator if you need to.

The general rule is 5-10 lines max, so yes you are way over that. You need to modify it a bit.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 07-06-2003, 09:37 PM OK, I changed it now, so it's only about 6 lines. Hope that's better.

I have seen some at the Cheers forum that are humongous, I had to scroll to the right to read that person's post because their pic was so big(it was an attachment).
Darkweaver 07-07-2003, 04:58 AM Also, I've been wanting to ask this, but what if I direct link images from my website is that better than uploading them here?
Good point you make. Actually, you'll be taking bandwidth from your host and not here. However, I think there's also concern for people who are on a dial-up such as myself who have a hard time sorting through threads with pictures that have a large file size.
Anyhow, if nobody has a graphics program, this website here (http://www.nbswebfx.com/) should be able to help though the quality will probably diminish signifigantly. But, it's an alternative nonetheless. (Plus, you can do also sorts of effects to your pic there too.)

Your photos weren't over 50k, she just read them wrong- they were 5,870 and 6,003. She must have thought they read in the ten thousands. Or you changed photos.
But the one you just added was over 99,000
(now changed to one that is 16,002)
To check the size, right click over the photo and go down to properties and it will tell you the size.

Yes, TJ has resource limitations that can't just be wished away. It's pretty hard to run a site that accomodates 15,000 members. He's providing a service to us at his own expense, so I hardly think that we can be annoyed that his equipment has limits.
