And O-Town, of course. Even though Jim Morrison was a rather "dark" figure... Lady T 07-03-2003, 01:28 AM God Bless Jim Morrison; I hope he is smiling down from heaven:happyface Brandon 07-03-2003, 03:56 AM :(R.I.P. come on baby light my fire.... Faith 07-03-2003, 04:21 AM RIP Jim :( BrandonS 07-04-2003, 04:22 PM He also wrote the words to their songs. I've never been able to quite work out if he participated in writing the music, but since he didn't really play an instrument, perhaps not. There's a good book about "The Doors," called "No One Here Gets Out Alive." The movie about The Doors was made from it. RIP, Jim. He wrote Light My Fire and Touch Me for example. Jim was really adamant about all of the Doors getting writing credits. He always stressed that they were a team and he did not like to be singled out as lead singer or songwriter. Anything that they ever recorded was always accredited to "The Doors". He was a real stickler about this! As for the mucic end of things , that was usually left to the musicians of the group. ( which Jim wasn't) He did write a lot of their lyrics. Especially anything to do with snakes, lizards, etc. Moonlight Lady 07-08-2003, 12:33 PM R.I.P. I seem to recall that JM may have provided some assistance or advice in the writing of "Light My Fire." By the way, there is a song in which Jim explicitly says something to Robby by name. Do you know which one? Penny Lane 07-08-2003, 01:36 PM Originally posted by BrandonS I seem to recall that JM may have provided some assistance or advice in the writing of "Light My Fire." If that's true and the movie was written based on that book, I'd keep away from it and stick to reading a one written by one of the band members. I'd think they know what really happened better than any biographer. And he made Pam(Jim's girlfriend) out to be a simpering idiot!(Actually she was a very headstrong aggressive person who could hold her own with Jim.) Read "Riders On The Storm" by John Densmore(the drummer) or "Light My Fire" by Ray Manzarek(keyboardist) for the REAL story. Although Ray seems much more sympathetic to Jim's weaknesses. John was mad at him all the time! Both books are excellent. I haven't watched an Oliver Stone movie since "The Doors"He does tend to over exaggerate a bit!:barf: TJL 07-11-2003, 04:47 PM "When the doors of perception are cleansed, men will see things as they truly are, infinate." - William Blake laceyinthesky 07-11-2003, 07:00 PM Originally posted by Penny Lane Read "Riders On The Storm" by John Densmore(the drummer) or "Light My Fire" by Ray Manzarek(keyboardist) for the REAL story. I read "Riders On The Storm" a few years ago and it was a good read. I have "Light my fire" (I've had it for a couple years, actually lol) I've just never gotten around to reading it.
