Why did Steven in Elyse decide to live in Ohio? Ohio is a pretty conservative state and I think it is mostly republican run. Well, if Steven and Elyse were such hufge liberals why didn't they continue to live in Berkely (where they went to college) or move to a state that was more liberal? It's not like there family lived in Ohio. I have nothing against Ohio I like it. I was just curious...

Maybe they thought it was a better and safer place to raise a family. After all, the Midwest is a very friendly place. ;)

That's what I was thinking too. Maybe they put their liberal views aside, and put their children's well being first. Another couple possibilities could be that the creators of the show just wanted to be original, and try something different. Most tv shows past and present seem to be based in either New York, or L.A. I think they forget sometimes that America consists of 50 States, and not just two. Personally I think having every show in L.A., and New York, is insulting to the rest of America, not to mention boring. I think it's nice when a tv show is a little different and tries to represent lesser known places. Maybe the writers saw things the same way. Another possibility could be that Alex convinced his parents to move there. After all, even at a very young age Alex seemed to have alot of influence over Elyse, and Steven. Maybe it was him who sold them on the idea of living in Ohio.

I like that they used my homestate to base FT on. And they used Columbus, they could have chosen Cleveland or Cincinnati but they chose Columbus.
Columbus really isn't a bad place to live, yes Ohio is mostly consistently republican, but Steve and Alyse always seemed to see both sides of things, so I like that they chose Ohio.
