2 whole days without meat.I've tried to become a vegitarian in the past but have always ended up cheating and having a nice juicy piece of steak but this time I think I'm going to try to stay a vegitarian.

You might want to learn the correct spelling first... I know, I know, everyone.. shame on me. As I said, it's impolite--rude actually--to correct anyone's grammar online or in person. *GoodMorningCalgary* 06-27-2003, 12:41 AM Originally posted by Janice This is a message board, not a classroom. I really don't see how its rude... I'm not trying to say any such thing, and how you drew that conclusion is beyond me. I'm saying that it's bad manners to correct someone's grammar, particular on a public forum. laceyinthesky 06-27-2003, 12:51 AM He wrote vegitarian more than once, so I hardly think of it as a simple typo. If he continued going around writing "vegitarian" somebody was going to eventually correct him anyway. Janice 06-27-2003, 01:10 AM Originally posted by laceyinthesky If he continued going around writing "vegitarian" somebody was going to eventually correct him anyway. ....and that person would be rude. There are many poor spellers on the web, and the world doesn't spin off its axis as a result. I just did a web search and found about 10 sites saying that it's rude to correct someone's grammar. You said yourself you know it's impolite, so this conversation is over for me. You know it, yet you still continue to do it--there's nothing else for me to say. laceyinthesky 06-27-2003, 01:16 AM Originally posted by Janice ....and that person would be rude. It's not as if I'm talking to the President or the Queen. I think he's embarassed himself on these message boards before more than someone telling him how to spell vegetarian correctly. If correcting someone is rude, what makes calling someone rude not? Janice 06-27-2003, 01:39 AM Originally posted by laceyinthesky Calm down.. If correcting someone is rude, what makes calling someone rude not? I struggled a little with your last sentence. How do you like it? To answer your question, it's rude to correct anyone's grammar even if they're not the President or the Queen. Good manners extend to everyone. Everyone has feelings and can be embarrassed. It is not rude to tell the English teacher wannabe that their behavior is rude. You spend a lot of time telling people to calm down and that there are spelling errors in their posts. I remember having a few of these discussions with you. I found one. I can find the others too. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63139&perpage=15&pagenumber=5 Brian 06-27-2003, 01:50 AM Originally posted by Janice This is a message board, not a classroom. I also think it is annoying to see people correcting other people's spelling. In fact there was a thread a few months back in which every time this one member who had trouble with spelling (I believe his username was Fred Cleaver or something), somebody would correct him and he got pretty annoyed. He hasn't posted since March I think, possibly because people kept correcting his spelling. I can understand their intentions but like you said, it's rude and this not grammar class. Ian 06-27-2003, 01:53 AM THEM DAMDED ENGLISH TEACHERERS! THEY WAS RDUE! THEY HAVE NO WRITE TELING ME HOWE TO RIGHT! Sitcomwriter 06-27-2003, 02:01 AM It's moral reasons btu I keep saying "I will, I won't, I will, etc." LOL.I've been a meat-eater so long that it's kind of hard to quit although I want to. PS.I kind of thought that vegitarian didn't look right. laceyinthesky 06-27-2003, 01:49 PM Yes, yes.. I know it can be rude, and I'm a bit notorious for correcting people's spelling, but I'd rather be embarassed early than letting it continue and being embarassed later. Janice 06-27-2003, 03:31 PM Originally posted by laceyinthesky Actually, it is "as rude as I (am)." I'm not embarrassed.. I'm an adult. I can handle being corrected. Actually, both forms are correct. It's a matter of what a person thinks looks better. Just because you don't have a problem being corrected, it doesn't make it right or mean that others appreciate it. You're the spelling police around here, and others have told you that they don't like it. Bottom line--it's rude. With that said, I'm done Ms. Grammar. Don't you have some posts to correct? HuntingtonM15 06-27-2003, 03:34 PM This is random but, I once did a research paper on "Advantages of a Vegetarian Lifestyle"! I'm not even a vegetarian, but I got an A on it! Kitt 06-27-2003, 03:37 PM I used to correct my sister-in-law in publc. She would use 'ain't and double negatives and such. A few of the times when I corrected her my mom was in the room. Mom would just totally cringe at my correcting. She even took me aside and tried to ram it into my head that what I was doing was wrong and hurtful. I was such a smartass that I didn't believe her. Time has passed, and I know now that Mom was oh so right and I was oh so wrong. bandito 06-27-2003, 05:34 PM You go Janice! It is rude to correct someones grammar. dawsongirl 06-27-2003, 06:03 PM Well, that was quite annoying. Seriously, who gives a crap if it's rude or not to correct grammar? If Sitcomwriter thought it was rude, then he could say something. Apparently, he didn't think that, so drop it. OT: Lacey, I thought the same thing anyway. I was an English major...someone try to sue me. :p Janice 06-27-2003, 06:13 PM Originally posted by dawsongirl Well, that was quite annoying. Read Sitcomwriter's original post, and lacey's reply and tell me it's not rude. Another thing, don't tell anyone to 'drop it'. We'll discuss what we want. Don't like the subject, don't read it. She's giving her opinion just like everybody else feels so free to do so. I'll tell ya what's really rude - hijacking his thread with this nonsense instead of, God forbid, talking about the topic he presented. I guess the vegetarian lifestyle will have to be discussed some other time. This thread is strictly for bull****. My first post was right on topic. Anyone can give an opinion, but coming into a thread and telling everyone to drop it isn't giving an opinion. laceyinthesky 06-27-2003, 06:55 PM Originally posted by dawsongirl Well, that was quite annoying. It takes two to tango and you calling her out on that did contribute to the hijacking of this thread. Continuously sparring with someone who actually agrees it is rude but clearly doesn't care seems a bit counterproductive anyway. Maybe Cathy said to drop it out of courtesy to Sitcomswriter so, indeed, we could get back to vegetarianism. I'll speak on that subject myself for a moment since that's what the thread is supposed to be for. A life without bacon is no life for me :) Now, y'all have fun duking it out if you feel it necessary. I don't. :bye: laceyinthesky 06-27-2003, 07:23 PM I'll contribute something to the thread.. I tried once to be a vegetarian. It didn't work.. I was back eating meat the same day. But if you're seriously wanting to become a vegetarian, I'd suggest letting your family know how important it is to you that you keep up with what you're doing. If you can get support from those around you, particularly those who feed you, I guarantee you'll be a lot more successful. bandito 06-27-2003, 07:30 PM HIJACKING? Kitt 06-27-2003, 08:25 PM Originally posted by laceyinthesky Exactly.. if Sitcomwriter had a problem with it, he would have said something, and apparently he didn't. I think your grammar police thing is rude, and so do lots of others. As for making an issue about "hijacking" the post...get the heck outta here. There's hardly a post on this site that doesn't change subjects in the middle of the stream. To badger and slam Janice about that, and then to use it as some defense for playing the grammar police argument, is bottom drawer holy phony baloney. laceyinthesky 06-27-2003, 08:33 PM Originally posted by Kitt Exactly? Correcting people at most 3 times out of 800,000 posts is hardly what I'd consider being grammar police. Yes, some of you have won nominations for the academy award.. you may stop being so dramatic now. TJ 06-27-2003, 08:38 PM Thraead Claosead |
