Pick a show (sitcom/drama, etc.) and name one good thing that happened (either on the show or behind the scenes) followed by one bad thing that happened...

Perfect Strangers:

Good idea: The show was one of the best (if not THE BEST!!!) slapstick comedies ever made.

Bad idea: Having Larry and Balki marry Jennifer and Mary Anne, respectively.

Coach:

Good idea: The life of a college football coach. Very realistic.

Bad idea: Giving Christine Armstrong as much air on the show as they did and incorporating her into too many plots.

The Waltons:

Good idea: Just like on The Wonder Years, looking back at a simpler time.

Bad idea: Exit Olivia Walton, enter the Burtons, second-to-last season.

Home Improvement:

Good idea: Two words: TOOL TIME

Bad idea: Two words: WILSON WILSON

The Brady Bunch:

Good idea: All the people work out their problems by the end of each episode (provided there were problems!).

Bad idea: Cousin Oliver saying the word "s*x" in the last episode.

Laverne and Shirley:

Good idea: The slapstick comedy provided by Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams

Growing Pains:

Good idea: B. J. Thomas singing the theme song

Bad idea: Replacing B. J. Thomas:angryfire in the later seasons

Step By Step:

Good idea: Angela Watson playing Karen Foster

Bad idea: Adding Lily

Hogan's Heroes-
Good- Not making Richard Dawson Col. Hogan. I :heart: the man, but he was better as Newkirk.

Bad- The Bob Crane Scandal. Okay, it really wasn't HH related, but I couldn't think of anything else.

The Practice

Good idea: A small law firm consisting of complex characters taking on murder cases with unique storylines and plot twists.

Bad idea: Move show from cushy Sunday night timeslot to miserable Monday. Then, take an axe and cut the show to pieces by firing the majority of key players including the show's main star, Dylan McDermott.

Good idea: Send David E. Kelley for therapy after a swift kick in the butt.

Bad Idea: Treat a class act show with disrespect by not allowing the show and cast to exit with dignity after seven seasons.

OK, I was in a hurry the last time I wrote it and didn't have time to think it over carefully!

Personally Larry's marriage to Jennifer is NOT a bad idea. However, I did NOT think Balki and Mary Anne were right for each other. Remember the episode in which Larry was trying to convince Balki that Mary Ann wanted him, and Balki thought something else?--e. g. "Mary Ann doesn't have much longer" (or something similar), and Balki tells her, "You have less than 24 hours to live!"--Lots of double entendres! Personally I thought that should have been a very special "Goodbye Mary Anne" episode.

The show could have continued another ten or so seasons with Balki either leading the bachelor life or finding a new girlfriend.

Bad idea: having Julie being Ann’s only daughter in the unaired pilot

Good idea: adding a second younger daughter

Mad About You original run
Good Idea: replacing boring Selby with cousin Ira as Paul's best friend, Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt have great chemistry.
Bad Idea: Jamie cheating on Paul and changing the main premise of a happily married couple, no more Fran and Lisa in the final season

Without a Trace
Good Idea: great original cast of five
Bad Idea: adding Roselyn Sanchez to the cast in season 4

Star Trek: Deep Space Nnie
Great Idea- First six seasons were top notch.
Bad Idea- replacing Jadzia Dax with Ezri Dax

Major Crimes
Good Idea- most of the show
Bad Idea- killing off Sharon near the end

The Middle
Good Ideas- solid overall show, Neil Flynn being a lot more likable husband for Patricia Heaton than Ray Romano was, my home state of Indiana being prominently featured
Bad Ideas- Kirstie Alley episode was total trash, Brooke Shields' recurring character was irritating

Once Upon a Time
Good Ideas- First four seasons were excellent and I really liked the Wonderland spin-off.
Bad Ideas- Both season 5 arcs were terrible. But even that was better than bloody awful season 7 which was a revamp. Show should have ended with the season 6 finale.

Frasier
Good Ideas- Excellent cast, excellent writing first several seasons improving on Cheers
Bad Ideas- Writing lost its sharpness especially in seasons 8/9, lousy supporting cast in Paramount+ revival

Rhoda

Good idea - have Rhoda move back to NYC, surround her with a strong cast, and have her get married

Bad idea - next season, have Joe and Rhoda divorce

Roseanne
Good Idea: keeping Becky's character even if Lecy Goranson put aside acting to pursue her education, by casting Sarah Chalke, and redefining the character a little. These things in sitcoms are ok!
But the best idea was the addition of Mark and David!
Bad Idea: well, the lottery hands down. And not having an idea to what to do with two newborn babies was also a bad idea

Mom
Good Idea: gradually shifting the focus from family and work, to Christy's circle of friends.
Also, Anna Faris kissing a girl in her last episode. I hoped that would be the direction.
Bad Idea: Certainly Anna Faris leaving the show. Why Anna why :(
The storyline with Bonnie's brother.

Picket Fences
Good Idea: definetely adding Marlee Malin to the main cast.
Bad Idea: I can't think of one

Everybody Loves Raymond
Good Ideas- Strong supporting cast, addition of Amy and her parents
Bad Idea- terrible lead actor

Benson
Good Ideas- replacing Taylor with Clayton, some of best ever sitcom writing seasons 2-5
Bad Ideas- a lot more mean-spirited in seasons 6 and 7, ending on a cliffhanger, even with the tone changing I would have liked to see a final season 8 with Benson as governor and Gene now having to work for him

Diff'rent Strokes
good ideas- excellent show first five seasons, excellent theme song as well
terrible idea- addition of Sam and Maggie, especially Sam

That Girl
good idea- quality show throughout
bad idea- Marlo Thomas insisting on her character not getting married. They could have at least had a big wedding in the series finale.

Bewitched

Good idea - A witch marrying a mortal and trying to adapt to the mortal life, with interference from her meddling mother

Bad idea - when running out of ideas increasingly recycle old scripts

Sydney and Cafe Americain:

Good idea- greenlighting them in the first place
Bad idea- killing them waaay too soon

Good Idea= Rhoda spinoff from Mary Tyler Moore
Bad Idea= Phyllis Spinoff

Good idea; Rhoda's wedding
Bad idea= Rhoda's divorce ,Wasn't the same after Joe left
