She was shot by the person who ran her fan club. An elder woman who was believed by some to possibly be in love with Selena. Not sure if that's ever been confirmed. I don't think it has been but a lot of rumors went around suggesting so. At any rate, she grew very attached to her and apparently got a bit too possessive. Selena's father found out that Yolanda had been misappropriating money mailed in by fans for club memberships. I think the day she got shot, Selena had gone to Yolanda's motel room to confront her about the missing money and fire her from the position. A fight ensued which resulted in Selena's untimely death.

That whole story's really sad. I remember watching the movie a few years ago. :(

Selena Quintanilla technically didn't die from a gunshot wound- she actually bled to death. Yolanda Saldivar shot her, and she was losing blood... But, because her family was Jehovah-Witnesses, they did not believe in blood transfusions. Chris, her husband, was Catholic and was offering his blood. But... her father wouldn't permit it because of their faith.

Yolonda shot Selena because Selena found out Yolonda was stealing the money from her fan club and not giving the fans enything in return and Yolonda knew Selena would turn her in and she would go to jail...And thats what really happened!

What happened to Selena was so sad, I don't know how they could call her murderer a fan...a true fan would never hurt their favorite celebrity, not to mention kill them.

O M G. Are you dead serious? I know movies aren't perfect, but they should have depicted this. I never even heard about this either! I am really in utter shock.

Dead serious. Someone told me that, I can't think of who it was, but they were a very reliable source and certainly wouldn't lie about something as serious as that.

Actually, that is just part of the story. Check this website out:

It is still a shock to me that her father would request such a thing. I don't want to stomp over anybody's religion because I can be an open-minded sort of gal (well, I can respect other religions, even if I don't agree), but the dad is more of a wackjob than I thought!

Actually, she DID get blood transfusions but her father was unaware of that. It wasnt till after they gave her the blood that Abe asked them not to.

And as for all the rumors about Yolanda being obsessed and what not, I'm not sure whats true but this is what I believe: Since Yolanda had been caught stealing money from the fanclub, she knew she was going to be fired and that Selena would be the one firing her. She also knew that it was the end of their very close friendship and that Selena probably didnt want anything to do with her. So she figured that if she didnt deserve to be around Selena, then nobody did. So her only solution to that problem and her jealousy was to kill Selena so that everyone would suffer a loss, and not just her...but thats just what i thinl. You guys can believe what you want.

By the way, if you guys have any other questions regarding Selena, feel free to ask me. I'm like...a Selena historian...I've been a fan for a loooong time...sooo yeah...lol

Yes, that's what the website I posted said. I wonder if the situation was different, such as, the only way she could have survived included further blood transfusions, if Abe would have agreed to that.

And like the website implicated, a family member cannot dictate someone else's treatment. Even if Abe had talked to them first about "no blood transfusions," the doctor's still could legally do it.

Selena's death was just so sad and tragic. I've seen the movie many times and I've also seen specials on TV about her. Yolanda Saldivar (sp?) was really, really messed up. Ugh that part in the movie where Selena says something like "Thanks Yolanda...you're a great friend" always gets to me because I know what will happen later. I think on one of the specials I saw, they interviewed Yolanda and she denied killing Selena....hasn't it been proven already?

I read parts of Yolanda's trial on a website and the Dr who worked on Selena said that even if Selena had lived she would have been brain dead so the blood wouldn't have mattered anyways. When Selena was shot the bullet hit a major artery and severed it.

I have a tribute topic to selena in the Chit-Chat Music section....

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63775

click the link ^^^

and about her father not letting her take blood... it's not completely true. They did give her a blood trasfusion at the end but it was already too late to save her. The gun shot wound was very serious.

Selena was killed the day I brought my daughter home from the hospital. She was sick when she was born and had to remain hospitallized for several days and on the morning she was to be released I was rocking her waiting for the doctors to come in and the news reports were on TV then. I will always remember the anniversary of her death :(

Selena's untimely death was a terrible shame. She was so young, talented, beautiful and full of life.
I enjoyed the movie a great deal. It's just awful that her life was cut short, and just as she was on the verge of becoming an American sensation.
Everytime I hear her song, I Could Fall In Love, on the radio, I get a little sad.
She's taken on legendary status. Her fans will be honoring her 50 years from now, much the same way as fans of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elvis keep their memories alive.

Selena passed out in the motel lobby and told the woman there that Yolanda did it and told her the room number plus there were witnesses

Okay, well I was half-right on the whole 'blood' thing. I knew it had something to do with transfusions

Selena was only a few feet away from her. They were both in the hotel room together and as Selena was trying to leave, yolanda shot her. So selena was pretty close to yolanda when she was shot. And thats how selena knew it was yolanda that shot her.

I know the whole story. Selena got shot by yolanda Saldivar. She ran into the hotel lobby and was screaming to call the police clutching her chest. she collapsed and told the lady at the desk who shot her and the her eyes rolled back. There was a pool of blood. Some guy saw her twitching but there was no pulse.

Well, if that was the real reason then her father was very hypocrite because this religion don't believe in any kind of world music 'cause most of the music is dedicated to something like the world, a pet, a woman or a man, and it's another way to idolize when the bible says that the only God and the only one we have to adore is God.

Dean Winchester

I don't know much about Selena but I find it highly hypocritical that her family "misses her" when they let her die because they were brainwashed by a cult (I respect JW's as much as I respect Scientologists). I have no sympathy for them for choosing a cult over her and only for Selena because she shouldn't have died so soon and could've survived if their family made the right call.

Dean Winchester

I hope the last post didn't offend anyone, especially Selena fans. That's just the way I feel about people who choose any cult over their family. If they hadn't let that cloud their judgment, Selena might've recovered and would've kept a career going. My sister would've died as an infant if not for a blood transfusion, why? My parents weren't idiots who were going to just let their kid die and expect pity when they knew there was something they could do to save her, and they did. IMO, Selena's parents killed her just as much as Yolanda did because they refused a blood transfusion because of the stupid cult they belong to.

Janice

^ That rumor was squashed years ago, and you're right it's BS.

Dean Winchester

I never even heard of the whole JW/transfusion thing until about two or three months ago actually. Granted, my knowledge of Selena pretty much is limited to a J. Lo movie, but when someone told me that, I thought that was some seriously messed up brainwashing cult ****. Hopefully it isn't true, because I don't know how anyone in their right mind would justify letting their child die over a religious belief that 90% of the world thinks is a quack religion and a cult (even Michael and Janet left the religion after they saw how it was).

Janice

^ John, step off the soapbox, lol. The story is BS. Look it up yourself. It was a rumor.
