I love what I do, but nothing beats getting home and seeing the people and places that you love the most.

And getting things most people take for granted...

So, did I miss anything good??

yeah, i'm pretty dark...but i've got that farmers tan thing going...

when we landed back at base, several of the wives had about 10 gallons of ice cream for us. apparently several guys wrote back saying they missed it. I didn't miss it until I saw it. Man that was probably the best ice cream i've ever had :)

y'all are welcome.

Hey, somebody has to get out there and do it :)

Its kind of funny how you never really want something until you can't have it. I never really had to have any type of food or luxury or anything like that...but while over there, MAN did I just want a cold beer :)

yes I remember that saying. We had some at the pier thanks to some navy wives, and we had some at the hanger thanks to the wives/girl friends/moms of the guys in my platoon.

cold beer and ice cream, what a combination :)

they had a smorgasborg of ice cream for us. It was pretty cool.

In what I do, we never have anyone there to watch us leave (like you see on tv) or there to meet us when we get back (like you hear about and see on tv). This is the first time in a long time someone has met us at the hanger, it completely made our day.

I remember waiting, impatiently, when I was younger for my dad to hurry up and dock or his plane to land, and I remember the smiles on all the guys face's when they got off and saw their family. It never made a difference to me, I chose what I'm doing and I know that I drop in and out at a moments notice. But man, being met yesterday was the greatest thing in the world.

That being said, I still wouldn't change what I do for anything.

As for the icecream...there were about 10 gallons of different flavors of Blue Bell (the best ice cream in the world). I think we all just got a couple of scoops of each. Then had to go get some real food for dinner last night.

For the record, I did not post on here to get a bunch of people to say thank you. I was doing my job. Yes, I love my job, but its a job. But, I did grow up with manners, so y'all are all welcome, glad to have done it.

I'm enjoying being home. My unit was given mandatory 2 weeks leave due to the death of one of my buddies. Its nice to get to see family, but sucks as to why I get to see them.

My days and nights are still all screwed up. I slept through the night for the first time last night.

I am completely overindulging myself in stuff I can't get when I'm "at work". Like real food, although some of the food the locals were giving us was pretty good. :)

For all of you saying that y'all are glad I'm back, just remember there are still some over there trying to keep the peace and to restore order. There will be some going over there for the first time, or some going back to do the same until the job is done.
