View Full Version : James job interviewing skills on the episode "Umemployment Blues"
TVFactFan 05-26-2003, 10:17 AM This is the episode when James was told that he was too old for the Job. But if you paid attention, James played a part in kiliing his chances to get that job. First of all, James constantly would overtalk the guy he was being interviewed by. Secondly, James did not let the interviewer finish a sentence. Everytime the interviewer asked James a question, James never let him finish asking the question. And Most Importantly, James said something to the interviewer you are never supposed to say, He said -"So what day do i report?-LOL I personally think it was more than James age that didn't qualify him for that job.

laneyday 09-24-2003, 07:26 PM You know, every time I watch that episode, I feel the same way. I feel like telling him to shut up and let the man talk. James was too, too eager and that always ends up sour on interviews.
laneyday 09-24-2003, 07:27 PM What do you mean by 'bump'?

James was like "So what day do I start?" before he was offered the job-LOL
laneyday 09-24-2003, 07:46 PM If he just relaxed and allowed the interviewer to ask the questions without interruption and tell him he had the job or we'll call you, whatever, he would have been better off. He probably would have gotten the job I believe.:talk:
marvin g 09-24-2003, 07:50 PM Interviewing skills among the poor especially is still a problem to this day. I think that's what that episode was trying to convey or am I reading too much into it?
laneyday 09-24-2003, 07:56 PM No, it is a problem.:help

i agree
magellan333 12-27-2003, 05:30 PM The man said the government program had an age restriction that James didn't meet. That is the reason he didn't get it. His actions in the interview had nothing to do with it.

His actions sure didn't help his chances
magellan333 12-27-2003, 05:42 PM He could have aced the interview and still not got the job.

If you pay close attention, the interviewer made up that reason because of James interviewing skills. James was Overtalking him and asked when he starts the Job when the job wasn't offered to him yet. So the interviewer had to come up with a reason not to hire James and the Age thing was the reason.
laneyday 12-30-2003, 09:29 PM I don't care who you are. Anybody who over-talks an interviewer before they have a chance to ask questions and offer you the job is a biiiiig turn off. James was over eager, over confident, over zealous. If you act over 'anything' you're pretty sure to go under.
EricIdlefan 12-30-2003, 10:18 PM You shouldn't go to a job interview expecting to be overconfident and with arrogance thinking you are going to get the job when somebody else will get it instead of you!!

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Nothing in that episode makes me believe the rule was made up. That was something James could have checked into later; if the interviewer had lied about the age requirement, James could have sued his way out of the ghetto. Too much to risk with a lie in this case.
Brian Damage 01-18-2004, 01:20 AM I agree with magellan333, the interview had nothing to do with it. It was the age requirement. You could see the interviewer was having a laugh about James' eagerness.
