never seeing Steve Urkel's parents-LOL. I can't believe he was a MAJOR character and we never seen his mom or dad during the entire 9 year run. Weird, very weird if u ask me.

although they were never shown, the show has described different features of steve's parents. for instance, in one episode, it was said that his father was a small man, and in another episode a picture of steve's mother was show, although most of her face was blocked by steve's big head.

It must have slipped past me because I never remember hearing anything about Steve's pArents description. I only remember hearing when Steve parents wanted to send him to Moscow.

It's seems as if Steve's parents didn't really like him.

No, they didn't.

And BTW - their names are Herb and Diane, according to Steve in episode "Man's Best Friend". Later on in the series, in the episode "Hot Wheels", Steve's mom calls to the Winslow Household, and Steve picks up the phone and says 'What's up, Roberta?', so I really don't know what's the deal.

I wouldn't say this is "the most unusual thing about Family Matters." LOL. But yes, it was really weird. I always noticed that and wondered why they didn't show them. Wasn't Steve's dad a brain surgeon? I don't know if they ever said anything about his mom's job.

Yeah it just looked like he lived alone-LOL. When Laura visited Steve at his house, you never heard or saw his parents. And what's even more weird is seeing Cousin Myrtle but not his parents. I know Jaleel White played Cousin Myrtle but I just feel if you introduced one relative of Steve Urkel, why not introduce the main relatives, his parents-LOL

Yes! That's right! I thought someone went to his house before. I thought that time more than any other made it seem so odd they couldn't throw some geeky Urkel parents in the episode. I forgot to add in my last post that never seeing his parents was not only weird, but down right fakey. I know other things in the show were more fake. But this is one thing that the show should have added.

I don't know, I always thought it was MEANT to be unusual--like never seeing Steve's parents was a running gag that the producers and writers were always aware of. Kind of like that neighbor in Home Improvement (forgive me, I forgot his name--was it Wilson?) whose face is hidden by that fence every time we "see" him. So, that's my take on it.

Not that this has much to do with it, but we never see Iola's mother on Mama's Family when she is mentioned often.

what i found unusal was the fact that they never mentioned the middle sister Judy. thye never mentioned what happened to her or nothing. they just went on with the show as if they never had a middle sister or a middle child.

Seriously regarding Judy. It's as if she just disappeared, and as if we imagined her ever being on the show.

One of the funniest things about Steve's parents was when Carl got in a fight with Steve's Dad. Lol, the whole episode is great. Someone has that dream later where it's in the Wild West. Wasn't it Carl that had the dream??

For the longest time you never seen Joanies best friend on happy days Jenny Pickalow. She would say alot going over to Jenny pickalow's house. Think I spelt her name wrong.

Steve likely would have been talking to someone else, in reference to Roberta. Why would he call his mother by her first name instead of simply "Mom"?

Actually, Judy was the youngest sibling of the Winslows. Eddie was the oldest, and Laura was in the middle.

They never showed Kimmy's parents on Full House either.

hughpuppies

They never showed Kimmy's brothers either. She talked about them afew times, like when she handcuffed DJ and Stephanie together and said her brother would not be back until tomorrow and she comes back the next day and says her brother is still out of town.

Also in Mr. Belvadre, they talked about their neighbors quite often and you never saw them.

They showed iola's mother once when Moma was learning to drive and she sneaks out to get her drivers liscense and she drives past the Boylends and says there's Miss Boylend taking out her garbage and it showed a lady taking out her grbage.

Don't recall them ever showing Jessy's parents on Saved by the Bell if they did I missed it.

Steve's Father was a Doctor who had to go to Florida for a seminar and Steve said he could not join Carl, Eddie and Waldo on a camping trip, but once they got to their camping trip Steve Shows up.

You're talking about the Hufnagels, and actually, one of them, Giselle Hufnagel, was introduced to viewers in the show's finale.

Doctor and Mrs Urkel must must have been terrible parents. They too were obviously nerds, but they still couldn't accept their son. But yeah, it was a sort of running gag, that we never got to see them. (We only heard his mum's voice once.)

I always thought it was weird that they showed Urkel's parents. Was it ever mentioned how Rachel's husband died?

Jessica
05-19-2009, 02:36 PM
No, it wasn't.

Furienna
05-19-2009, 03:03 PM

It also bothered me that on another ABC sitcom Step By Step they never explained how Carol's husband died. I guess ABC sitcom writers decided that only Pam Tanner on Full House should have a death backstory.

Furienna
05-25-2009, 04:21 AM
Are you even sure, that he died? I know Frank was divorced, and I thought Carole was too.

Jessica
05-25-2009, 08:49 AM
Hmm, Rachel's husband were only mentioned a few times in the first season, I think.

Furienna
05-25-2009, 12:46 PM
But there was an episode in the 3rd season or the 4th season, where Rachel dated a man, who objected to her still wearing her wedding ring. But I don't think they said anything specific about her husband in that episode.

Jessica

Waldo disappears
Eddie becomes a Cop
Harriet number 1 leaves
Laura falls for Urkel

Yeah, especially "Laura falls for Urkel" is just terrible.

Waldo and the original Harriette dissappeared. I didn't like that. I don't hatre the ew Harriette, but Jo Marie Payton was the best, and she was prettier.

The second harriet was defintely a lot prettier

Furienna

I have to agree with TheLifeAdjuster though. The second Harriette was prettier. She was also more bland though. It was the excactly same thing, when they changed actresses for Vivian on "Fresh Prince of Bel Air".

Jessica
05-27-2009, 12:50 PM
Yeah. The second Harriette was not a bad Hariette, but still, I like when they keep the original cast.

Furienna
05-27-2009, 05:51 PM
Oh yes, that's true. But at least, three cast members were around for all episodes in all nine seasons: Reginald VelJohnsson (Carl), Darius McGrary (Eddy) and Kelly Shagynee Williams (Laura).

Jessica

Yeah. They only changed Harriette. Hmm, didn't they change that Fletcher too?

Was Laura in the ICE FISHING ep when Steve had to save Carl from drowning?

I'm sure Laura was in every ep

Jessica
05-30-2009, 10:11 PM
I just read on IMDb that Laura was in 214 episodes. The whole show had 215 episodes. So, is it correct that there is one episode she didn't appear in? Or did she appeared in all of them?

Furienna
05-30-2009, 11:36 PM
Laura was in the ice fishing episode. She was part of a sub-plot, where Judy got jealous of Richie.

Jessica

Yeah, she was.

Lorimar Television

In what episodes didn't Eddy and Laura appear?
Laura didn't appear in the episode where Carl, Eddie, and Waldo went camping and Steve tagged along. Eddie missed the episode where Laura started a petition to learn about black history all year, and the one where Carl is upset about not preventing that hostage victim from being shot. He might have not been in some more but Im not sure.
