Sometimes it makes me laugh that some people don't know what a homebody is. Some people think it's a person who stays in the house ALL THE TIME. I think the accurate definition is a person who stays in the house little more than they go out. Anyone Agree?

I guess you could use either one. My mom calls me a homebody because I dont like going out and hardly ever do.

Well i thought everybody went out atleast once a month. I'm in a little more than I go out. Usually when I go out it's to go on a date and occasionally hang with friends. So in my case, i will say i go out 3 or 4 times a month. Maybe 3 times

Excuse me, but you are saying I only get out once a month? That is the farthest from the truth! Meangya I probably go out atleast 3 times a week depending on my schedule, but I still prefer to vedge out at home.

I can say that since i had access to the web i have been in a little more. But usually when you go out money has to be in your pockets unless aperson haS CREDIT CARDS. But if i'm not shopping , on a date, or going some where with friends, there is no reason for me to be outside.

LOL-no that's not i'm saying, i myself find it more dun, and cheaper to be at home. If i'm dating someone we may go out to dinner every other weekend. But we mainly would make it a blockbuster night

Well in my younger years i didn't need a reason to go outside but i think as i got older, if i'm not buying or shopping, or going on a trip, i have no reason to be out. Plus in the Summer, it's TOO HOT-i usually would come out in the evening.

I prefer the term shut in.

Seriously, I consider myself a homebody, but that only applies on weekdays. i don't like to go out when I have to work the next morning, but on weekends I run errands and walk around the city, then of course, there's my drinking, so that keeps me busy Friday and Saturday...

Exactly, anyone who works 40 hours during the week is not going to be not that much during the week. No matter how nice the weather is.

I'm a workbody. I work 8 hour shifts everyday after school and 12 hours on weekends and holidays. During the summer, it's 12 hours (minimum) everyday. Once I get to college, I'll have more free time, but now it's all about $$$$$.

Well, if the definition of a "Homebody" is someone who stays at home all the time then I guess I'm a "Homebody".
I don't like that idea though. I mean, the only reason I stay at home all the time is cos I live in a sh*tty little town in the middle-of-nowhere and there's nowhere for me to go. If I lived somewhere civilised then I'd be out and about all the time.
"Homebody" makes me sound boring. I may stay indoors all the time but I'm not a recluse by choice! :(

I'm defintely a home body. If I'm not at work I'd much rather be home with my daughter. I have panic attacks and get that "closed in" feeling when I'm in big public places and I'm not comfortable in restaurants, etc so I'm content at home.

My mother has always given me a hard time about it, but I've been this way for many years.

In my own work element I'm alright, but anywhere else? Nope.

well i stay at home a lot, but i dont have a car to go anywhere..so...but i dont "just" stay at home cuz i always have school, practice, or games to keep me busy.....take summer for example: cheer practices for cheer camp, b-ball practices for b-ball camp, softballl practices and games for Summer League, and weightlifting so that i get ready for next year's sports..

I dunno if I would consider myself a ''home-body'' but I do generally stay close to home. I have school stuff, and stuff to do for band. I go shopping a lot in the little towns near my house, and I go to the bigger towns on the weekends. But, usually during the week, while I am in school, I will be at home, either online, watching tv, or playing with my Cocker Spaniel Riley!

Are you really content with being at home because you genuinely like spending time there, or is it only content because going out in public can be so miserable? The way you describe it, it sounds like you're forced to be at home, but tell me if I'm wrong.

I always have thought of "homebodies" as people who usually would rather spend time at home instead of going out. I'm in my house more than I'm out of it, but I haven't ever considered myself a homebody for the reason that I'd rather go out than stay in. Of course, here it is, Sat. Night, and I'm typing this on the computer. :) Well, I don't go out EVERY Fri. and Sat., but I usually do. Fortunately, I got school late in the day, so I go out on weekdays too.

I have agoraphobia, which is the fear of large groups of people, so I rarely ever go out myself. I have always been somewhat of a homebody. Even as a very young kid I hardly ever went to birthday parties, arcades, carnivals, or anywhere else for that matter. Infact as a kid I can only recall ever going to two birthday parties. The only time I feel real comfortable going out is anytime after 2:00 in the morning. There's just something very peaceful, and magical about the world at that hour. Not to mention that there is nobody else out, so the world is truly yours. Personally though I hate being a homebody, and would give almost anything to go to the mall, or the beach again. Hopefully I'll get some medication soon so I'll be able to do that.

Well i wonder what the defintion for me is-I went out 4 saturdays ago and then i went out last night. So is going out once or twice a month a homebody?

I think in todays society you probably would be considered a homebody. We live in such a fast paced society that I think anybody who goes out less than a few times a week would probably be considered a homebody by the masses.

The last thing you probably want is some online person talking to you about phobias, but I know a little bit about agoraphobia. Medication isn't usually the answer, unless you have panic disorder with agoraphobia. You'll have to find out if you have both, but if you feel you just have agoraphobia, the usual way to get rid of it, is behavoral therapy. It's real successful, it's easy, and often times it's very fast. Usually people with phobias benefit tremendously from behavoral therapy, not medication. But again, people with both panic disorder and agoraphobia can do great with medicine. I just wouldn't delay if I were you. Agoraphobia sucks too much to keep it around.

Thanks Cashodeen, I appreciate the advice. And in answer to your question, yes I was diagnosed with panic disorders as well. I was also diagnosed with bi- polar depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, as well as attention defecit disorder. So yeah I'm pretty screwed up. Iv'e been looking for ways to help myself for a long time now but have found nothing that has worked. I will definitely look into what you said. Thanks!

No, don't say you're "screwed up!" That's not true. I just hope you can find what works out for you. I sound like such a cornball, but you can totally do it. I believe their is a solution for anything.
