View Full Version : Genesis AKA 04-03-2003, 01:26 AM Take your pick. ABlairican Pie 04-03-2003, 01:53 AM You know, as a big prog rock fan, I haven't even really heard much of the stuff Peter Gabriel did with them back in the 70's, but I know that he was very good and theatrical. Phil Collins was just the drummer who got drafted to the lead vocalist. Then they got poppy. Good, but poppy. dlemond 04-03-2003, 12:30 PM You know, up to and including Abacab (and some of the self titled album) I really liked all the work Phil Collins did with Genesis. The Peter Gabriel years were just a little too experimental off the wall theatrical for me. I'm sure a lot of it is good music, but it is not the kind of stuff I enjoy. I think the same can be said of a lot of early Yes (when they went off on their tangent) and King Crimson. I think Gabriel's solo work proved the right venue for him and a lot of it is fantastic. Not a big fan of anything after "So" or even that album for that matter. JoPol_wannabe 04-03-2003, 12:32 PM Phil Collins he was my favorite singer in the group. I did like Peter Gabrial but Phil is one of my favorite singers I love his solo act he just has a very good singing style I think. Rickenbacker 04-03-2003, 02:14 PM Peter hands down. Phil: great drummer, but he totally ruined the experimental side of the band. (this has been a debate among Genesis/prog rock fans for years) :) ABlairican Pie 04-03-2003, 09:56 PM Originally posted by Rickenbacker Peter hands down. Case in point: Solo song "You Can't Hurry Love." Tuesday Weld 04-04-2003, 12:09 AM Phil Collins. AKA 04-04-2003, 12:45 AM Originally posted by Captain ABlairica True. I like a lot of Gabriel's solo stuff though. Brian 04-15-2003, 10:30 PM Phil Collins. omalleyfan 08-22-2003, 04:12 PM for everyone who bashes Phil, check out Abacab and Face Value. Once he was capable of good music. And Invisible Touch/No Jacket Required wasn't really that bad when you look back at it. |
