I love those first two Tennesse Ernie episodes!

I really don't like The Diet; I hardly laughed in that episode...Nearly every episode of ILL has a redeeming quality, if it isn't the best.

The very first shows were dull. I thought the actors over-acted and the plots were stupid comedy.

Sorry....

My least favorite episode is "Lucy Is Envious." The plot is so dumb.
I also don't like "Lucy Goes To Scotland," or most of the Connecticut episodes (because they seemed to signal the beginning of the end).

"Lucy Goes To Scotland" is my least favorite. I think it's stupid when Fred & Ethel get in the dragon suit! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

The only I L L eps I don't care much for are several (not all) of the 1st season eps. They were simply broader comedy than they had to be, going way out on a limb all the time... especially where Lucy 'decorates' the apartment like a Cuban villa, with children, chickens, and even a burro! At least 2 others are about the same-- the magazine article ep where she 'goes hunting' where the apt. is like a junkyard, and when she messes it all up for the old man who thinks Lucy is in love with him; that one with about 15 kids! [what did she do?-- grab them off the playground?]

These 1st year eps seemed to follow in the mold of old comedy shorts [The 3 Stooges, Edgar Kennedy, et al]. But perhaps the redeeming facet is that it showed the cast is really funny when they just do character comedy which does not strain believability to that extant. Of course, *most* of the later shows are not entirely believable in some way, but the characters we have come to know remain believable. And that largely made the show; that the beloved foursome were not unbelievable, but still funny because we knew them and how they related.

I LOVE the first season. Except Drafted. That sucked.

Lucy Becomes a Sculptress

Oil Wells

The Golf Game- sorta

Harpo Marx- don't hit me

Lucy Goes to the Rodeo- hated the end

Please don't hit me, but Lucy's Italian Movie- I've never liked it

Lucy's Bicycle Trip

Lucy Meets Orson Welles

Lucy and Superman

And the last two were mediocre as well

Isn't that odd, Dawson?

I don't hate, but I am not particularly fond of Harpo Marx, and although I laughed a bit at Italian Movie, I never laughed as loud as I thought I would. I enjoyed it, but not my favorite.

On the other hand, I loved Golf Game. I laughed for 30 minutes straight!

Oh gosh, how I can I have a least favorite? Hmmmm....this is tough. The only one that I don't really care for that much is Oil Wells....I have no idea why, I just don't care for it much.

I like that episode for one reason and dislike it for another.

Like: "Slack up a bit!" "Ethel, reel me in!!" http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/lol.gif

Dislike: How at the end, everybody gangs up on Lucy even though all four of them want their money back. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/mad.gif

Do not slug me here, but I never like the "Lucy Goes to The Hospital" episode. The only thing I liked about it was when Lucy said,"This is it", and Ricky, Fred, and Ethel started panicing. That's all I got out of it, other than that, the episode was terrible. I also don't like the "Lucy Is Envious" episode, although Lucy and Ethel as Martians was pretty funny.

I agree with you LucyLova, I never really liked "Lucy Goes to the Hospital." http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif

I also don't like Fashion Show. I read somewhere that two of the stars' wives in the fashion show were out of it (i.e. drunk or stoned) during the filming of the episode. One of them almost fell down the stairs, and it is obvious on tape. However, I don't know who the other one was.

How could anyone not care for the first season much? True some of the episodes then were not the best, and the series did seem a great deal different then, but still... one of my favorites was from season one! (Sorry, I don't know titles) but the one wear Lucy thinks Ricky is just bringing home a photographer from some musician magazine, and it's really Look magazine. She dresses like a hobo and tears up the apartment. Who could not think that episode was funny!

My least favorite episode is probably the one where Lucy writes that muscial for her Women's Club and they sing "Queen of the Gypsies." YUCKth. Some of you also named some other ones worthy on my dislike list. That Orson Wells one was not good.

I liked that ep too Queen as well as Oil Wells, Lucy is Envious, Lucy's Bicycle Trip and a couple others named, but to each his own I guess! Probably my least favourite is the Scotland one as well. Just too hoakey for me. I know there's a couple more, but I can't think of them right now.

Does anyone know where you can find transcripts of the episodes?

i love almost all of them, but my least fav is when lucy plays matchmaker with the old man and old woman, lucy and the too old people are like the only ones in the ep, except for ricky briefly. what was that ep called? PLUS, we as the "critics" 50 years later dont like the 1st season best, but it had to be a hit if 6 HUGELY succesful seasons followed!

dawsongirl - - - we could never watch ILL together because I LOVE almost all of the episodes that you say you did not love.

Sorry, I thought the first season was dull and I won't even watch the show until after she has the baby. There was much more character development in the latter seasons.

Just my opinion......don't bash me. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/eek2.gif

I don't think there's an episode of ILL I won't watch, just ones I think are ehh. But most of my favorites are when they're in their first apartment. Go figure...

I'm such an easy target........the current crop of ILL episodes are nearly the end. I think they just returned from Europe. These episodes were classics.

I don'tget TV Land. Instead, I get the crappy Food Network and Plex Channel. Life is so unfair sometimes. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Yeah, okay, last night they got home from Europe. Now, they are back on the boat TO Europe. Huh?????

Food Network is important. It can help you...well, it can...well, there's always...nevermind.

dawsongirl, what do you mean they're on the boat back to Europe again? You saw the episode where they arrive back in the U.S. on the ship andthe very next episode was Lucy getting stuck in the port window? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/confused.gif

This really bothers me. Nick was also so careful about running the shows in order and now, it's like pot luck. You would think that the last month of broadcasts would receive a bit more respect from this has-been network.

Think I'm angry? Yep, but the best part is that their ratings are down. Less and less people are tuning in to see their positively awful line-up. I can't believe that top management over at Nick hasn't realized yet that the 50's and 60's television was a lot more popular, and longer lasting, than TV from the 80's.

AMEN!! Say, you don't happen to know anything about TV Land's ratings, do you? I'm assuming they're better.

I would say the Scotland episode is my least favorite.

I'll watch any other episode any time it's on, but the only other thing I don't like is when Fred and Ethel show off their "vaudeville" talents. Who told them they could sing? and dance? Yuck...

Remember when Fred's old vaudeville partner, "Kurtz" showed up? "Mertz and Kurtz". Gag me! Gee, Fred, I'll bet you two must have floored them out in Oatmeal, Neb. Let's face it, Mr. Mertz, vaudeville is dead, and I'm pretty sure you two were the guys who killed it (with a little help from Ethel).

That being said, I still don't think that any sitcom has been able to top I Love Lucy, and judging from the shows that are on now, I don't think any of 'em ever will.

btw, "Oatmeal, Neb" appears as a railroad stop in the movie "Singing in the Rain". I always loved that name for a town...

GOD BLESS AMERICA!
