View Full Version : Do you actually LIKE any new cartoons?
Striel 03-31-2003, 08:29 PM Are there any cartoons that have come out in the last few years that you think are any good?
Personally I only like a few:
Recess
Lloyd in Space
The remake of Teenage Mutuant Ninja Turtles
South Park
King of the Hill
The Simpsons
I miss all the good 80's cartoons, and I cannot STAND the new trend of making EVERYTHING japanese animation.
As Recess is 1997, I guess I can say:
Family Guy
Weekenders
Fillmore
Kim Possible, a little
South Park (96)
2DTV
and others
DarleneIllyria 03-31-2003, 10:40 PM Eh, let me see. I liked Doug and Pepper Ann. Those were really the only two that I kind of like that's kind of current. I loved watching Beavis and Butthead, but they aren't on anymore. No reruns of B & B anywhere, but basically that's it. Nothing that current, I suppose.
I don't really like how some cartoons become so trendy. Trends kind of turn me off. I used to like Rugrats and then it just got so trendy and I stopped liking the show. You oughta be able to watch a cartoon, anything for that matter and just be able to watch the show. You shouldn't have to go out of your house and see 10 million items for something. It's cool to have items for some shows, but when you have pencils, erasers, tablets, vitamins, band aids, etc dedicated to one show, it just gets to be too much.
ClassicComedyFan2 03-31-2003, 11:28 PM Tokyo Pig (ABC Family) is quite possibly the best cartoon in decades. It is extremely funny, random and just awesome (from the animation to the writing to the voice acting and even the music!)
Pokemon is a great show, IMO. The perfect blend of action and comedy with great theme songs and funny jokes with great voice acting.
Jackie Chan Adventures is a tamer action-comedy jaunt, but still is quite enjoyable.
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is a great sci-fi cartoon (even some Star Trek writers have written for it!) with humor and good acting.
Recess, Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, What's New Scooby Doo, Hamtaro, Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures and Pinky & The Brain are also great toons. So, yes, if you can find them, new toons can be coollicious! :)
Striel 04-01-2003, 01:24 AM I had actually forgotten about Buzz Lightyear. I watch that sometimes when I am getting ready for work, and its not too bad. I had also forgotten PepperAnn and Doug. I must say I liked Nickelodeons version of Doug much better than ABC's version though-- anyone agree?
*PinkLady* 04-03-2003, 07:48 PM I like the Angry Beavers, and I used to like Doug and Rugrats, but I can't stand watching those anymore.
trekkie 04-24-2003, 08:52 PM Out of new cartoons that have debuted within the past few years:
RECESS
PEPPER ANN
The new DOUG
WHAT'S NEW, SCOOBY DOO?
Older cartoons:
CHARLIE BROWN & SNOOPY SHOW
SIMPSONS
BUGS BUNNY & TWEETY SHOW
BUGS & DAFFY SHOW
TINY TOON ADVENTURES
FUTURAMA
And of course, all the Disney Afternoon shows (GUMMI BEARS to GARGOYLES), ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS (Not the awful original version), SCOOBY DOO, FLINSTONES, THE JETSONS, and THE SMURFS.
Adamantium 04-26-2003, 05:04 PM X-Men: Evolution (2000-Present) - I find this much more enjoyable than the "original" animated series.
The Mummy (2001-Present) - Just a fun cartoon with a nice group of characters.
I also like: Futurama and King of the Hill.
ClassicTV4Ever 04-26-2003, 05:20 PM I'm not realy big on the cartoons of today. I guess that may be mainly because I'm 22, lol. But I still love to watch all the cartoons that I enjoyed watching while growing up. I came home yesterday to see that the Jem pilot movie I ordered arrived. Man, I actually got to watch it today and it was great. ::sigh:: Ah, memories...
trekkie 04-26-2003, 06:02 PM Well, I'm 22 as well
And something I can't believe I forgot to add: Nicktoons. HEY ARNOLD, the old DOUG, LIFE WITH GINGER, ROCKO's MODERN LIFE and SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS are all great.
And although y'all will say I'm too old for them, I kinda like THE BERENSTAIN BEARS; and ARTHUR is alright
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 04-28-2003, 09:56 PM Spongebob Squarepants! LOL
Also Pepperann, Hey Arnold, Fairly Oddparents, The Weekenders, Doug and Rocko's Modern Life (I don't know if the last two really count as recent) are all pretty good. Not much a fan of anything else...I like the goofy stupid cartoons like Spongebob though because they're so messed up that it's funny LOL.

I don't. I love the original one better, it had the Phoenix Saga in it. I love The Oblongs and The Simpsons. Batman Beyond is okay. I don't really watch cartoons that much.
Agent 99 05-14-2003, 11:48 PM Right now, I'm loving Kim Possible. :) I also love Powerpuff Girls, and I used to love Doug and Rugrats. (I still like them, but I was more into them when I was younger.) The Simpsons can be hilarious, too.
Raven-Symone 05-15-2003, 12:37 AM I like
Kim Possible
Powerpuff Girls
Simpsons
trekkie 05-15-2003, 12:47 AM The early episodes of RUGRATS are good and were appealing to older kids as well, but the episodes now are horrible! The animation is a lot worse (BERENSTAIN BEARS/SAGWA-esque animation) and the writing has gone waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay downhill.
Agent 99 05-15-2003, 02:37 PM That's sad about Rugrats -- I haven't watched in quite some time, so I wasn't aware of that.
Oh, and I thought of another cartoon this morning that I love -- Johnny Bravo! :)
trekkie 05-15-2003, 07:09 PM JB is alright. I'm not a big fan of the animation style used in Cartoon Network's original shows; but I must admit, DEXTER'S LABORATORY is pretty good.
Evita Peron 05-26-2003, 11:27 AM I like He-Man 2002 From Cartoon Network, What's New Scooby Doo? and the Powerpuff Girls.
Crystal :ducky:
automatic princess 05-26-2003, 12:16 PM I like a few of these cartoons:
Pepper Ann
Doug
Proud Family
Teacher's Pet
The Weekenders
Recess
As told by Ginger, Hey Arnold, Ed,Edd,and Eddy,The Oblongs.:seeya:
M82A1 06-06-2003, 09:14 AM there's sooo many cartoons to list, hard to name just a few:
Family Guy
King of the Hill
Rocko's modern life
Ren & Stimpy
The Simpsons
Futurama
Mikado 07-11-2005, 04:28 PM yes, but they only come from Japan
barwars 07-20-2005, 01:16 PM If by new you mean current, well, yes.
For more adult stuff I like The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, South Park and Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law
As for kids stuff, I enjoy Spongebob Squarepants and As Told By Ginger, but I'm not sure if either of them have new episodes anymore.
megamanj2004 07-24-2005, 08:55 PM Personally, I don't really care too much for some of the new cartoons in today's age, but there are some w/in this decade that captivate my mind:
Simpsons, The (always loved The Simpsons)
King of the Hill
Family Guy
Sonic X (b/c like the previous incarnations, this one stayed true to the video game)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Revival (everything, except for that awful new theme song, which I can't stand!)
Pokemon (all eps. before they brought in all those gay new pokemon and when Misty left the series and May and Max replaced her)
Hey Arnold! (never jumped, it's so sad how Nick cancelled this show. :( Why couldn't they've cancelled the Rugrats???)
Rugrats (Loved the show until they brought in that damn annoying little turd, Dil Pickles! As they say at jumptheshark.com, New Kid in Town)
Doug (The original Nick eps. were great, but the Disney ones were somewhat terrible, especially since Doug's voice seemed much more whiny toned)
Yu-Gi-Oh
Recess (never jumped, ever)
Weekenders, The (didn't that show lasted only one season?)
Teen Titans
Dexter's Laboratory
Courage the Cowardly Dog (before Lionel Wilson died)
Powerpuff Girls
X-Men Evolution (The best version of all versions of X-Men)
Arthur
Batman (all verisons, including Batman Beyond)
Static Shock
kmere44549 08-16-2005, 06:53 PM I haven't really got to see any of the cartoon network so I'am out of the loop there. I mainly just get to see the ones that come on the wb on saturday. I really like mega man. Jackie Chan is good and so is yogoiu!

greg1184 08-16-2005, 11:15 PM Hard to know what you mean by "new cartoons," but at a guess, you're probably referring to toons produced since 1990. If we limit ourselves to cartoons that are brand new and running new eps right now, there aren't many great ones -- The Simpsons, Kaput & Zoesky, and though it's already a couple of years old, Ghost In the Shell: Standalone Complex. But limiting ourselves to brand new cartoons running new eps now isn't really fair, since there are never all that many good brand new toons at any given time.
If we're talking about toons since 1990 or so, I'd have to say that cartoons have gotten exponentially better starting in the 90s. In fact, the last 10 or 15 years seem to be THE golden age for cartoons. So many great cartoons appeared since the early 90s that it's positively startling: Reboot, Exo Squad, Defenders of the Earth, Inhumanoids, Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, Cowboy Bebop, GITS: SC, Batman, Teamo Supremo, The Animated Adventures of Superman, Batman Beyond, Justice League, Duck Dodgers, the latest version of Astroboy, Sponge Bob, Kim Possible... The list of great cartoons done since the 90s just goes on and on. Batman is probably the single best cartoon ever made -- but batman Beyond is almost as good, and so is Kim Possible. And the cool toons keep on coming: I've heard tremendous things about the new Captain Scarlet CGI. So it seems likely that the great cartoons will keep on rockin'.
FINALLY someone mentioned Cowboy Bebop.
Brian Damage 08-16-2005, 11:25 PM SpongeBob Squarepants
Fairly Oddparents
Family Guy
3 South (Since been cancelled)
Ireneparalegal 08-17-2005, 12:46 AM I love Family Guy. It is hilarious.
Me too. I guess you could tell from my avatar. I also have stewie tattooed on my left shoulder. That's how much I love him. I also love Ren & Stimpy. They are showing them again on NICK.
Grayman 08-22-2005, 08:30 PM This thread appears to have started a couple of years ago, but just to add, I enjoy Jetix's new series W.I.T.C.H.
An interesting tale with excellent evolving characters, plenty of conflict which lends emotion and drama to them, enough comedy without overdoing it, solid storylines and plots, and tasteful animation (some anime and American styles tactfully mixed together).
Not a "perfect" animated show mind you, but one of the better written ones in a while.
i really like family guy and fairly odd parents, its pretty clever once in a while
Johnny S 08-28-2005, 11:59 PM I enjoy The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, American Dad!, King Of The Hill, Rugrats, Spongebob Squarepants, Pepper Anne, Detention, Recess, Courage The Cowardly Dog, and Ed, Edd n Eddy.
Mrs. Ducky 09-03-2005, 01:13 PM Jimmy Neutron is my favorite. It's sooo awesome, and I don't care what anyone else thinks! **** you, Nickelodeon, for not ordering a fourth season!!!!
Race's Girl 09-04-2005, 10:28 AM How about Static Shock? That rocked da house
MariposaLKB 09-04-2005, 11:16 AM I just love Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends--Bloo is so cute yet sarcastic, Eduardo appeals to my love of all things Latin :D , and Mr. Harriman is so obviously a goof on the invisible rabbit in one of my favorite movies, "Harvey"! I was happy to see a cartoon featuring black characters when "The Proud Family" first came on--and I still love Suga Mama LOL--but it is being repeated waaaay toooo much and the "movie" was stupid IMHO!
Number 9 Dream 09-05-2005, 03:21 PM There are a few new cartoons I enjoy(Family Guy, The Simpsons, Spongebob Squarepants, and South Park), but mostly I miss the cartoons of the 80's and 90's. The last GOOD cartoon I remember was Doug(early to mid 90's), but Nickelodeon seemed to go downhill after that(with the exception of Spongebob). Just my opinion :D
MariposaLKB 09-05-2005, 03:53 PM I loved Spongebob at first too, until my kids became obsessed with it LOL!
hatwink 09-09-2005, 02:32 PM If by new you mean current, well, yes.

American Dad is the bomb. Especially when he get out of bed and sings the theme song.
megamanj2004 09-09-2005, 05:02 PM I've heard that many people complained at jump the shark about how American Dad is trying too hard to be like Family Dad, which of course Seth MacFarlane also created. The opening theme song does kicks ass!
Stuwiebrianfan17 09-11-2005, 01:09 AM Let's see what shows do I like of reccently? Good question...Here's a list of shows that I like below;
1. Danny Phantom {Best show ever!}
2. My Life As a Teenage Robot
3. All Grown Up
4. Family Guy
5. The Simpsons
6. The Fairly Odd Parents
7. South Park
8. Kim Possible {Ron and Draken rule!}
9. Teen Titans
10. Ed, Edd n Eddy
That's all I can think of....Ask for reading I like reading the famous Harry Potter series I love that book set. Book six is really great; I'm enjoying it.
Fonzarelli 10-21-2005, 10:00 PM 'Kim Possible' is one of my all-time favorite cartoons!
hockynyt 10-22-2005, 11:58 PM ....And by that title, I'm saying that new catoons are made (digitally generated) out to be so non-offending and potentially liability-free that they're just not funny. When I was growing up in the last years of the 60's and throughout the 70's, the Warner Bros. cartoons were brutal when it came to well-known stereo-types of the time (post WWII) and just violence in general. But, they were funny! The biggest difference being that I could (then as a young boy) watch Foghorn Leghorn drop a lit bomb into the dog house and not feel like I had to run outside and try it. I knew it was just a cartoon...not a challenge or a role model. Today's cartoons are way too watered down and none of them are drawn by hand anymore..too bad for the kids now watching for a chuckle now and then.

AMEN!
megamanj2004 10-24-2005, 11:39 AM AMEN!
I agree! Most of Today's cartoons's animations are just like comparing them to the way most singers these days using synthesizers and voice-enhacers.
This proves why most of those people these days are lazy and act like they have no REAL use or even talent for that matter!
dlemond 10-24-2005, 11:48 AM The Simpsons

I miss all the good 80's cartoons, and I cannot STAND the new trend of making EVERYTHING japanese animation.
This is from a lifetime cartoon fan (and I'm 58 now)--and while I still love the
cartoons from the 1950s and 1960s that I grew up with--I also confess to a
fondness for some of the new shows. These include: KIM POSSIBLE, THE
SIMPSONS (yeah, I know it's been around 16 seasons but, hey, it's still in
production so it's still "new"), KING OF THE HILL, JIMMY NEUTRON, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, THE POWERPUFF GIRLS, JOHNNY BRAVO, DEXTER'S LABORATORY, RUGRATS, FAIRLY ODDPARENTS, and a few others. FAMILY GUY is a bit crude for my taste, but I do watch it from time to time. I also liked TINY TOONS, ANIMANIACS and PINKY & THE BRAIN (all, alas, no longer in production).
tv star collector 10-24-2005, 07:07 PM Out of new cartoons that have debuted within the past few years:

CHARLIE BROWN & SNOOPY SHOW

BUGS & DAFFY SHOW
TINY TOON ADVENTURES
FUTURAMA
And of course, all the Disney Afternoon shows (GUMMI BEARS to GARGOYLES), ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS (Not the awful original version), SCOOBY DOO, FLINSTONES, THE JETSONS, and THE SMURFS.
I beg to differ regarding THE ALVIN SHOW (CBS, 1961). It was a classic and
one of the first cartoon series to air in prime time (the season following THE
FLINTSTONES' debut). The animation was crude (so was the animation on
the very popular BEATLES cartoon series, which I also loved). But, the music,
writing, and voice acting made up for it. And without Ross Bagdasarian Sr.,
there would have been no Alvin & the Chipmunks (or a Ross Bagdasarian Jr.
to produce them!).
