View Full Version : Minnesota Ice Man
EyesoftheNile 03-21-2003, 02:01 PM So, I understand that a special affects company from Hollywood claimed that they made the Minnesota Ice man. But if this is true, the how can we account for the foul odor coming from the body/ice? Some people asserted that they smelled bad stuff when they saw the Ice Man, yo. To me, this would indicate somethin' was goin on, yo. What choo think?

Ninjaman 03-21-2003, 10:31 PM I am quite familiar with the story of the Minnesota Iceman, as I am from Minnesota. It actually happened in my part of the state, many years before I was born, of course. I wrote part of a research paper on it when I was in ninth grade several years ago. At the time, I felt as though it was genuine, but now I'm not so sure. I would be happy to discuss it further.
johnnyangel 03-23-2003, 12:53 PM I have this episode on tape. To me, I believe the original was real.
After **** hit the fan keep in mind the owner took it and disappeared for about a year and then when he came back onto the cirucit, he had a completely different and obviously faked one.
EyesoftheNile 03-24-2003, 03:03 PM Dear Friends,
Frank Hansen must have had some reason for making the Ice Man scarce! Could it have been a real organic life form? IMO, yes. I feel it is possible, but I have no idea about the likelihood.
I have a strange esoteric theory. Do you want to know what I think? I think that the Ice Man was REAL. I think that Frank Hansen may have sold it on the black market to a Rich, eccentric customer. Perhaps now the Minnesota Ice man is now located in a place that no one will ever find it, perhaps in a laboratory 300 feet below the ocean surface somewhere on Earth. Maybe there is danger in knowing the truth. Could the Ice Man have been something of an abomination?
I believe that they have it somewhere and are studying it in a clandestine laboratory.
What do you think????
Blackout 03-25-2003, 06:07 PM i hope so, i wanna see that case updated
Starbright726 03-30-2003, 06:52 PM I think the iceman was a poor unfortunate human, if it wasn't a dummy.
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 06-28-2008, 05:30 AM Maybe the Hollywood Special effects company made the fake replacement. The original sounds real. I'd like to see this solved.
Blackout 07-16-2008, 09:57 PM im sure it'll be solved in the next week or two
It was probably the adominable iceman or an evolutionary specimen that was well preserved by nature.
UM didn't do a very good job of saying what had happened to the guy and if the police interrogated him or not.
What did happen to that guy? Is he still alive?
Ireneparalegal 07-16-2008, 10:05 PM There is lots of information on the internet regarding this story. I found many, many sites that give info, more than was said on UM.
Blackout 07-16-2008, 10:07 PM care to share them??
Ireneparalegal 07-16-2008, 10:23 PM Just type in "Minnesota ice man" in the google search box.
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 07-17-2008, 03:39 AM You'll shoot your eye out! ;)
Talk about Unsolved Mysteries not giving the whole story. I don't remember anything about the eyes being shot out. There was something about a law enforcement officer asking, "How'd it get dead?" as if the cause of death was not apparent. According to all these sources, it was shot. Here http://www.bigfootencounters.com/articles/hansen.htm is the story by Hansen, that scoundrel.
At various sideshow carnivals in the 1920s, supposedly a girl would be seen frozen in a block of ice--as far as I can guess, a wax replica of a carnival worker. The carnival worker would be kept hidden while the ice block was displayed, then the ice block was hidden and the girl walked around as if she'd "escaped" from the ice. A pretty impressive feat for a time when people couldn't even keep ice cream in their freezers for long. If anyone knows of any details describing this practice, please post.
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 01-06-2017, 09:18 AM The apparently authentic and original Minnesota Iceman exhibited by Frank Hansen has been tracked down and is now on regular display in a museum. http://www.museumoftheweird.com/news/2013/06/30/frank-hansens-story-of-the-minnesota-iceman/ The scientific community is not taking it seriously. Some people believe the original has resurfaced and was a model all along, while others believe a genuine biological creature was switched for a model. http://mysteriousuniverse.org/2016/06/the-minnesota-iceman-a-new-mystery-filled-book/
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 03-26-2018, 12:31 AM This article says the whole thing was a hoax and a model all along. Either more than one model, one more realistic than the other, or one model that was thawed and refrozen between exhibitions, causing it to take on a different appearance.

I keep forgetting to go see this thing for myself...it's only about 10 miles from me
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 05-29-2019, 09:18 PM This story was just on the program In Search of Monsters. They went into great and extremely interesting detail!

The person who did the examination for this program concluded the present-day replica is a different specimen than the 1960s exhibit, based on the appearance of the mouth being drastically different. There is also a noticeable difference in the angle of the head. The original may have been shot in Vietnam and illegally smuggled in using military resources. If so, the owner disposed of it to avoid legal action. If the latex model was used all along, it was based on a real creature that soldiers observed in Vietnam, examples of which probably still live there.
The program presented a very good case for the original being authentic, as why would the owner invite two scientists to examine it closely unless he wanted to know what he had, and even if he had a replica and didn't know it, why would both scientists stake their reputations by publishing papers and going on The Tonight Show stating it was real?
tsaun 06-02-2019, 04:33 PM Thing was auctioned on Ebay years ago

Cori aka ChrisSCrush 06-02-2019, 04:43 PM Yes, the link I gave shows its current location. No one disputes that the current one is a realistic latex model. The scientists noticed a foul odor coming from the first, causing them to conclude it was real. Possible explanations are either the first one was real and replaced with a model, or the first one was a model replaced with a better model. In any case, a recent examination showed no sign of odor. So if the odor was latex going bad it was a different kind of latex from the first one.
