I got into a discussion (read: big, huge screaming fight) over Drunk Driving with my friends because they felt my take on it was too harsh.

I believe that if you have been caught driving drunk, your license should be revoked for five years, no matter how old you are, no matter if you live in rural Alaska and that's your only form of transportation. No warnings, no second warnings, no daddy's-gonna-get-me-out-of-it. You pay the price with no license for five years.

If you drive drunk and kill someone, that was a murder. A flat-out murder. There is no manslaughter option to be considered. Personally, i disagree with manslaughter unless you accidently dropped a chainsaw on someone and i mean ACCIDENT. If you were driving drunk and killed someone, you murdered them. And you should get maximum time for that.

It's kinda surprising that I'm so anti-war, yet so pro-harsher punishments.

By the way, what's your view?

I dunno if agree that if people just get caught that they should get their licence taken away for 5 years, but I do believe that they should HAVE to stay in jain for 6 months, but I do agree with you that if they have a wreck and kill someone, they SHOULD DEFINATLEY get the maximum punishment, whether it be life in prison, or death by injection. I agree, nobody should EVER drive drunk... EVER.:o

friends dont let friends drive drunk I know is cliche' but its true

You know what pisses me off? When people get off for drunk driving with no punishment.

After DARE, SADDD (or whatever they are now), MADD, and every single other program known to mankind, people still have the stupidity to drink and drive. Even if you have zoned out for years, you still hear something in the back of your head saying, "NO." Listen to the voice people, you're not schizophrenic, it's Jiminy Cricket.

Im sure no one means to kill anyone. But i agree with the above posts, If you do it in the first place, Its your fault. Personally if i drank and drove (Which i dont do either actually :lol: ) And accidently hit and killed someone, I Wouldnt do it again anyway, Out of pure Guilt.

I agree. The laws should be more strict.
A lot of drunk drivers (and potential drunk drivers) know that a first offense will not be too hard on them. So they take a chance and possibly kill someone. When you are behind the wheel, you are responsible for your actions.

Actually guys. I Wasnt going to mention this, But i think its pretty appropriate for this topic.

I was once almost killed by a drunk driver. When i was 4 years old i was riding in A Jeep with my Mom and Dad. Their were only 2 seats, So i sat in the middle of them. And their were a few drunk people in the car behind us. Anyway, They hit us, And Both my Mom and i went flying out of the jeep, And The jeep even rolled over on my Dad after he fell out. We still have alot of pictures from after it too. My Face was covered in blood, Considering i was only 4 Years old i am very lucky i made it. I Dont remember it at all, But i do remember being at my Grampy and Grammys house after it crying hard.

So the fact is, Drunk Driving is something i really hate. I was lucky enough to survive it, But think about all the Kids that may not have been so lucky. Its really sad that they have to lose Their entire future and miss out on their wedding, graduation and opther stuff like that. All so a few guys can go out and have a good time...Than drive home. Its really really sad.

I totally agree! I'm tired of people not being forced to take responsability for their actions. If you drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you should pay the price.

I also feel that people who talk on their cellphones and cause an accident that kills someone should also be charged with murder.

If you didn't intend to kill someone while drunk driving, you still intended to engage in behaviors that you knew were destructive and dangerous. You know you can get in trouble, but you do it regardless. To me, that makes it murder.

Maybe people who drive drunk and kill someone should get the death penalty. How different is it than people who shoot or stab people to death and get the death penalty? They're still taking a person's life, no matter what.

I hate people who drive drunk...I think police need to raise the penalty for it if you are caught. I have been lucky, I don't know anyone killed by a drunk driver.

I believe just about everything a person does is on purpose.
You cannot accidentally drunk drive and accidentally kill someone - people know before they take that first drink that they will be impaired. A lot of folks pretend they won't.
I hear that kind of thing from teenagers a lot, "I'll drive home drunk and let God decide."

Since the bible repeatedly says things like, "do not harm a single one of my children, for their angels have constant access to my Father", I can only imagine God is pretty horrified by that line of thinking.

I think people know the risk they are taking and just choose to ignore it, out of selfishness and stupidity.

I have no sympathy for drunk-drivers. You took drivers-ed, you get the lecture from school and your parents- its your choice to be a dumbass. You shouldnt even have to be told not to drive drunk- its friggan common sense. I have no sympathy for drunks or those who drive drunk, so take their license away for 1 year, 5 years, or 10 years-- I dont care. Their's no excuse for driving drunk and theres no excuse for killing someone b/c you were intoxicated.

Exactly! After all the attention given to drunk driving, you have to be brain dead to not notice it at all! I mean, it doesn't matter if you failed all those classes, something must have stuck in your head and you have to remember that.
