The situation involved a publicity scheme by Ricky's agent to have Ricky and Lucy portrayed as a happily married couple. A reporter plants the idea that Ricky is having an affair, and so Lucy storms down to confront the would be love flame.

There was an episode where a reporter had breakfast with the Ricardos and spent the morning with Lucy interviewing. Ricky's publicity agent sent cards inviting women to the night club, I think every lady that had been there in the last five years. When Ricky came home for lunch, Lucy found one of the cards in his pocket. Her and Ethel went to confront the lady named on the card. Turns out, the lady was old and hard of hearing, definitely not affair material.

he was having alot of affairs in real life. lol.
