Are there any Gay, lesbian or bisexual members on the board? I'm bisexual myself. I've yet to come out to my mother though. She'd probabaly disown me. lol.

Okay, I'll step up. I'm really pretty much struggling through lesbian or bi. Don't know exactly-my feelings change so freakin' much it's not even funny. Although, I did come out to my brother-he was the first one I told and then my mom. Both of them don't really care so thats good. My dad would kill me if he knew and I just came out to my cousin today. He seemed a little shocked. He reacted very strangely to the news more than my mom did. :lol:
I'm a little worried about him though because I'm really close to him and for some reason I think he sees me differently now. Oh well, what can you do?

Yes, there are a few openly gay and bisexual members here. I think you'll find that many of us here are open-minded and welcoming when it comes to homosexuality :)

Pandora I know how you feel. The hardest thing I've ever done is come out to people I care about. My friends were completely shocked because you really wouldn't ever suspect I was bi unless I told you. I'm sure you'll get up the courage to tell your dad, just like I will with my mom......eventually......when I'm in college......in another state.....miles and miles away.:)

Well, I've said it plenty times in front of him guess it hasn't sunk it yet. But then again, it's not like he ever listens to me anyway. Of course, if my cousin go blabs to his dad and mom then i'm in some serious crap-well, not really, but if word gets back to my dad he'll either kill me or throw me out of the house. He's tried choking me before I was maybe 9 or 10. But it had nothing to do with sexual preference. He just hates me, case closed.

I'm glad your mother and brother are accepting of the situation. Sooner of later, it might be a good idea to tell your father. He'll come around eventually.
My brother is gay. He's 33 now, but didn't come out until he was 25. He said it was the best thing he ever did. He was tired of living a lie. I swear he gets gayer and gayer everyday. Nobody could tell a few years ago, now he acts like Jack on Will & Grace, lol.

Yeah, I felt I've always knew, but never really dawned on me until the middle of 11th grade. Of course, I didn't tell my mom until I graduated and her mom was in the hospital and she was going on about this secret I know about her can't say what it is because I don't know who all reads this board, but anyway I told her right then and there. She said something like 'no?' and I said a serious 'yes' and she said, 'okay.' And that was it. My brother on the hand I told him maybe a month after I confirmed it. He said that he always suspected that I was. He knew before I did! :lol:

My mom is kinda like that. I have this guy I'm dating (well sleeping with) and he used to come over all the time and hang out in my room. I'd even make comments just to see if she'd catch on but she never does. Or she has but just won't admit it to herself.

I'm lucky my mom is really supportive far from what I expected! Now, when she goes through old magazies like allure, etc. she gives me photos of celebrities that I like. The other day she found a nice pic of Angelina Jolie and gave that to me because she knows I'm a fan of Angie.

I am Bisexual... The only people that know about it are my friends, none of my family knows because I am pretty sure most would disown me..

I'm not gay, but I don't have a problem with anyone who is. As long as you're not an a$$hole, I'll be cool with you.

i am bisexual. all my friends know and my mom probably does too but i havent told her.

I'm strait, but I would wager that about 1/3 of everyone I know is gay or lesbian...and I live in a small area. I think that's cool because it says to me that they feel ok coming out, and people really like them for who they are (which is not to say that they don't get made fun of at times, but from what I've seen people don't even care what their sexual preference is). I think that prejudices are easing up a bit and people are comfortable with being who they are and not "hiding," which is really great! :)

Same here. I may not totally agree with the lifestyle, but I'm not gonna be rude and mean and downright awful to people because they are.

Well, I had the first female student hit on me, today-- or at least, I think she did. It was all so confusing. That was something that I was totally unprepared for. I didn't freak out or anything. It was actually sweet. But, I just reminded her that I'm staff. :D

I've known since I was about 16 years old (I'm nearly 21 now) but I only came out for the first time about 3 weeks ago. I told a close friend of mine who was really, really brilliant about the whole thing. A few other people know aswell but I don't care about them knowing cos they are gay too and I know they'll accept me. I'm still working-up the courage to tell my straight friends.
I'm also extremely worried about my parents finding out cos they'd kill me - seriously! My mum has her suspicions (I think) but she won't discuss it because she's afraid of the rumours she's heard turning out to be true. If my dad knew he'd kill me - either that or he'd kill himself.
I'm pretty ok with who I am. I'm past the denial stage now so I know that this is who I am and I can't change that. I still have a lot of issues to work through but I hope that, with the help of my other gay friends, I'll be able to make some progress towards being totally comfortable with everything.
To all of you who said that you are having doubts about your sexuality I have a few words of advice -
I know it's tough. Not knowing for sure who you are and who you're attracted to is a really confusing and scary situation to be in. I promise you though that it'll all work itself out in time. That's what it takes - time. You just need to be patient. There's no sense in beating yourself up about the way you feel or trying to force yourself to feel a certain way. Eventually it will all make sense, I promise you.

Well, I'm gay.... I came out here a little while ago. I've only told three of my friends @ school and a few are bugging me about who I like (which I will NOT tell them, considering I like our teacher) but most people I've told are fine with it. I've told my parents and my aunt and grandma but that's it for my family.

Anyways, I am bisexual, and proud of it! I don't give a crap what people think of me since like 99.9% of my county is straight....barely know anyone that's even curious. I enjoy the company of men rather than women because I feel more free and don't choke up. Like you guys know, my dad is homophobic (what an ass hole, also.) But I also enjoy the company of women. People kind of know at my school because I like Kmart and Pamida and stuff. There's a few ppl at my school that know I'm bi but I'm pretty sure my mom and dad know but don't care anymore.....they are dealing with my brother's (16) smoking problem.

Anyways......

What you said about people being 'in the closet' is very true. I spent my teenage years feeling miserable and isolated cos I thought I was the only person I knew who was going through these feelings. It was only after I came out myself that I found out that actually there were 3 other people in my class at school who are gay and who were going through the same $h!t as I was.
There's a lesson there to all of us. In fact there are several lessons to be gained from that -

1 A persons sexuality is not always obvious from the way they present themselves
2 People should not be judged on appearances
3 We should never take anything about a person for granted
4 No matter how unique we feel our problems are there will always be someone out there - perhaps closer to you than you think - who is going through the same thing.

Im gay. I'll be 14 in a week and I've know since I was like 11 or 12. I've told only a few of my friends and I've told my mom. I wont tell my g-parents because they'll go over how I'm to young to tell and stuff and I havent told my dad because he's not very open-minded. But, ya never know.......

I only want 2 things:
*to do well and school and be the best I can be
*get a girlfriend in my small, close-minded town;) :D

On the other hand, (and please, tell me if I'm out of line), how early do people begin to realize that they are gay? I fight with people all the time about being gay being "someone's choice," because I don't think it's a choice that you make. But then again, I'm strait so I can't say for sure.

Thats why when I found out in high school I never said anything. I wasn't ready to deal with what comes with being different. Although now I couldn't care less because it's their problem not mine. When people poke fun it's because they're afraid that they might be just the same. :rolleyes:

Sexuality is definately not a choice. You can choose whether or not to act on your feelings but you cannot choose the way you feel. Take myself for example - I didn't choose to have feelings for other women but for years I chose not to act on my feelings and keep it a secret cos I didn't want any $h!t from all the small-minded wankers in my crappy little town.
I would never have even considered coming out while I was still in high school. I got enough hassle from people there cos of the way I looked and the fact that I never had a boyfriend. Other kids all thought I was gay and I got enough trouble cos of that. I dread to think what they would've done to me if they'd known for sure!

Can I just say that I think this is a really cool, positive topic. Every time I see a thread about homosexuality on here it's usually full of haters spreading ignorance and arguing with everyone. This thread has been really pleasent and I'm glad that, not only are there so many other people here who are going through the same stuff as I did (and if any of you ever need to chat in confidence you can always PM me), but that everyone is really open and cool about it.

Thanks for answering my questions, Mossopp. You're right, this is a very positive, open thread. I think the best way for people who are not gay to gain knowledge is to know the truth and try to understand those who are! :) Awareness works wonders.

That's what my results were.. never heard the term before though.

One time my best friends mom goes "If you dont dress more like a girl everyone's gonna think youre a dyke" and I was like do I really give a sh*it? Ive had people through all grades think im gay, I guess its they way I act, I dont know. Sometimes I wanna scream in their face REALLY loud and tell them that I do like girls but I like guys too!!!!! But, I control myself at those moments.

I'm actually like mine and it's true most people think either i'm straight or a lesbian. Everyone in high school couldn't understand why I didn't have a boyfriend. I was asked out, but I always denied. I didn't have the heart or the guts to tell the guys who asked me out that I wasn't interested because I prefer girls.

I'm definately straight.. just ask Ian ;)

or techniqually speaking to go along with what you are saying is that everyone would be bi because the people who call themselves gay arent acting on their opposite sex feelings


all I was saying that Im not, call me a freak or whatever but I dont have feelings for people of the same sex, I agree that we all judge people on how they look but that has nothing to do with being gay or les or bi or whatever anyones sexual preference is, judging people is a natural human tendency and everyone does it....but alright we are all entitled our own opinions
