- “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Comes Out of the Box as a Real Contender
For Young Adult Viewers in Late-Night
- “Kimmel” Beats CBS’ Established “Craig Kilborn” By 33% in Adults 18-34
- “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Grows by 50% in Both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 throughout its First Week

Premiere Week National Ratings (1/27/03 - 1/31/03):
In its first week, ABC’s late-night series “Jimmy Kimmel Live” hit the ground running, attracting an average audience of 1.75 million viewers in a competitive late-night landscape. In fact from Monday night to Friday night, “Jimmy Kimmel” saw its audience build by 50%, from 1.4 million viewers to 2.1 million viewers. The show saw an identical pattern among Adults 18-49, growing by 50% from Monday to Friday (0.6 to 0.9).
· “Jimmy Kimmel Live” came out of the box as a real competitor with other late-night network programs. Head-to-head from 12:30-1:00 a.m., “Jimmy Kimmel Live” beat CBS’ “Craig Kilborn” by
33% in Adults 18-34 (0.8 vs. 0.6), 67% in Men 18-34 (1.0 vs. 0.6), and 14% in Men 18-49 (0.8 vs. 0.7), and was on par with the established “Kilborn” among Adults 18-49 (0.8). Head-to-head versus “Conan O’Brien,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live” tied the NBC show among Men 18-34 (1.0).
· Head-to-head (12:00-12:30 a.m.), “Kimmel” even challenged late-night veteran “David Letterman,” coming within two tenths of a rating point of the CBS talk show among Men 18-34 (0.7 vs. 0.9) and within three tenths of a rating point among Men 18-49 (0.8 vs. 1.1).
· “Jimmy Kimmel Live” picked up where “Politically Incorrect” left off. Compared to the final 4 weeks of “Politically Incorrect” (6/10/02 – 07/07/02), the first week of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” is up
17% among Adults 18-34 (0.7 vs. 0.6), 80% among Men 18-34 (0.9 vs. 0.5) and 14% among Men 18-49 (0.8 vs. 0.7). The two shows were on par among Adults 18-49 (0.8).
· In its core demographic, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” grew by an impressive 43% among Men 18-34 (0.7 to 1.0) on average from its first half-hour to its second half-hour.
· As an historical reference point, in the head-to-head half-hour, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” is outpacing the first five telecasts of “Craig Kilborn” in 1999 (3/30/99 – 4/5/99: 12:30-1:00a.m.) in key younger demographics. In its first week, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” is outdelivering “Kilborn” by 43% in Men 18-34 (1.0 vs. 0.7) and by 14% among Adults 18-34 (0.8 vs. 0.7). The two shows are on
par among Adults 18-49 (0.8) and Men 18-49 (0.8).

Conan has the funniest show in that timeslot.

As far as ABC is concerned, I actually enjoyed "Politically Incorrect". It was far better than "Jimmy Kimmel Live". If anyone is interested Bill Maher, the host of PI, is gonna have a new show, very similar to PI, on HBO later on this month!

I wasn't too crazy about Kimmel's new show the only time I saw it. I hate Bill Maher though and was glad his show got cancelled. IMHO

I watched Jimmy Kimmel and I didnt like it except for a few guests that were on........anywayz, they should never have dropped Politcally Incorrect that's about the only thing I watched or would watch on ABC besides Oprah :p

I really don't think "Jimmy Kimmel Live" will be around for long. Late night comedy is a tough nut to crack, and I just don't think he looks comfortable in his new job.

Plus, he has got to get some better guests.

Kathy Griffin? She's so starved for attention, I'm surprised she hasn't shown up on the Bowflex infomercial.
