Does anyone else but me totally love the GG house?! I LOVE it! IMO, it's the best house on TV.

Does anyone have any information about it? All I know is that it's located in Pacific Palisades in California. (5 miles away from my house.)

I'll love to visit it, and take a few snap shots.

The city in which is located is only 5 miles away from my house, but I don't know where the house is exactly located at.

Do you guys have any info?

Ooooh, I thought you meant the actual house was located 5 miles from where you live, and I couldn't understand why you had never been, lol!

I thought the house was on the back lot at Disney in California. I seem to remember driving by it on a tour, and thinking it didn't look ANYTHING like it did on TV.

I also think there is another post about this. You might want to check, SBTB, and see if you can get more info...

I believe it is a tour, it's in the backlot of Disney MGM Studios in Florida, I actually remember seeing the foundation of the house from the outside when I visited there.

OK, well it makes sense to be in Florida, but I thought it was Cali Disney where I saw it.

If one of them is Florida and one is in California, either one or the other could be a replica from the original version, but I doubt there would be two, in two different locations.

The house....

BEFORE the show was sold into syndication, exterior shots of the house were filmed using an actual house in the Pacific Palisades area of California.

AFTER the show was sold into syndication to Buena Vista, a facade was built at MGM Studios at Disney World in Florida, and this was then used for exterior shots.

I know a lot of people get confused about the house, because you'd think it would be one or the other, but really, both were used.

I have been interested in the GG house for a while. In the Fall of 2001, a friend I know in school said her Aunt took a photo of the house while on the MGM tour. It looked as if the house was being renovated or as sources are telling me, it's been torn down. The windows were taken out as well.

Many sources have told me disturbing news on the house. I was upset to find out in the first place that that house on the backlot tour is only a "wall". I don't know if you know this, but that house is only a facade. The rest of the house is not there. The front is only there. Where the front part of the roof ends must be the end of the house. Also, I heard that they tore down the street with all the house facades, including the GG house for something else.

I am confused about this:

The source I got the house on MGM tours was only partly there, it also said that if you open a door (ex. The garage), daylight appears through the other end. When I recieved the photo of the house with the windows out, it was pitch black inside. Is this house real or not. I did know there was the real GG house in California. Does anyone have any photos of that house? Also, did any of the episodes of the Golden Girls ever happen in the house? I'm so confused about this. I wish it were. From my friend, I heard that her Aunt actually went inside the house at MGM, and it looked like it did on the show. THIS IS ALL DRIVING ME CRAZY!! Please respond soon. Thanks!

Both The Golden Girls house and the Empty Nest house are on the Backlots of the MGM tour in Orlando, FL. But as other posters have said, they are only the fronts. Still, from far enough away, it's hard to tell. The pics I have of them they look perfectly normal. But this house in California. This interests me. Is it still there I wonder? It would be really cool to see.

i always thought the house was actually not a real house and it was in florida at MGM studios in orlando. its too cool to find out that it was an actual house also!!

Something else! The house used from 1985-1989 had to be real because at night, lights and inside furniture were inside. I saw lamps, and in a Season 1 ep. I saw a hallway in one of the windows closest to that patterned stand-alone wall near the garage. Also, where is the front door to that house? Was that slider door the door. I thought I saw a small opening to the house in a personal experience shot of the house. I thought I saw an actual living room inside. Anyone else have an idea?

im not sure that i understand what you are asking..are you asking about the real house? because on the set of the show there is the sliding glass door...augh! i want to help you figure it out, but im an airhead sometimes. like i said im not sure what you are asking...

I am just confused on what this house in California is, and where is this "front door" to the house. They really messed up the layout of the house. It just bothered me that people are saying that the house on MGM is not real, but you always see lights on in the house in night shots of the house, even from 1989-1992. We should all try to figure this house out. I've heard so many complaints on where the girls rooms were, where things led out to. But, this exterior thing, it just is beyond my question. I feel like writing to one of the actresses in the show and asking them this question.

OIC! hmmm...why would they build a house or half a house, or whatever it is in MGM studios just to use it to shoot for the show. isnt there several shows that actually use real houses for the shots? i know that the show was actually shot in a studio and not the actual house, but i inderstand what you mean now and im as confused as you are...

I finally think I found out the mystery. I was watching the night of episodes which included the reunion show I taped back in 2003. I know the two houses used in the early eps. was different from the later episodes. So I watched the pilot and the very last episode, and have now solved the mystery, somewhat. In the first few seasons (1985-1989), the daytime shots are most likely the real CA house, as well as the night time shots. In the last episode, the daytime shots were the MGM house ones; but the night time shots are from the CA house. The two shots of the night time matched up (the shot from the driveway). Because the MGM house wasn't real, they couldn't use it in the night scenes because otherwise, no lights would ever be on the other side of the window. I think I figured it out. The one difference I noticed that the two houses were different was the different trees around it. Another question. The window in the middle of the two square windows (the tall window); is that a door or a window. They look different in both houses. Hope people understand this one!!

Guys, go to these links to see recent pics of the MGM facade...

http://www.schmoovenet.com/photos/2000a/4.html

http://camliner.no-ip.com/pictures.php?album=28&pic=227

The pic at the second link, which is really clear, should help people who are trying to figure out the layout of the house.

That second link photo looks nothing like the other shots. That house is just wrong. Was that on the backlot tour? Yuk. I don't like it at all. Does anyone know what year that was in? Is this the CA house used in early shots. If it is, I'm disappointed. You can also see that the trees in the other pictures are not the same.

Another question:

What does that wrap-around gold and greenish gate next to the garage serve as?

Dennis Dubois

Wait!! I saw the index of the second link's photos. It was taken on November 11, 2003. They really messed that up. Why did they have to re-do it for? It was just a facade. No one lived there. The original was the best. So now after looking at that photo, it doesn't bother me that they tore it down.

I've recently found more photos of the MGM facade while on Alta Vista. I was shocked to find more. Also, you can tell that in back of the facades on the street, the MGM studios and Backlot Tour exhibits are in the back.

and finally...

I heard that the Residential Street on the MGM Backlot Tour (where the Golden Girls house, along with the Empty Nest house, and the George of the Jungle tree house were located) was torn down to make room for a Stunt car thing. I heard that the facades were deteriorating and had to be removed.

Is this true? I hope not! I never got to see the GG facade, and I always wished I could have. But I guess I cannot now. :(

Where did you hear the facades were deterorating? They re-did the GG facade in 2001. It couldn't of been that bad. I'm very confused on the whole thing. Hopefully someone can find an answer.

I read that the facades were deteriorating and falling apart on another forum. I believe mgmstudios.org was where I read it!

Just returned from MGM Studies and the Residential Street on the backlot tour is gone from MGM studios. It is now the Stunt Show.
