I once heard a story that in real life Lucy was driving on an LA freeway and "picked up" a radio signal or radio station in her teeth (metal fillings acting as diodes, I guess). Is there any truth to this tale?

I do believe it's true. I thought she picked up military signals.

Yes, it was during the Second World War and she was driving along and heard it so when she told people about it, they told her to report it to the police, she did, and they traced it to a gardener, Japanese man, who was spying out of a shed near where she had first heard the beeps! Lucy saves the world, news at 11! Sounds like a plot from one of her shows, doesn't it? It was from the fillings in her teeth, the material used picked up the signals in Morse code!

I think they even used a variation of it in one of the plots on her shows, can't remember which one though, LOVE THAT PICTURE RICKY, ONE OF HER BEST!

I remember that story myself, however I never knew if it was fact or fiction.

I know what you mean, it definitely sounds like something a publicity agent would make up, but it's been written up as true many times, it's perfectly consistent with the rest of her life, weird things always happened to her!

There you go, PERFECT EXAMPLE, she's sitting in her house in Beverly Hills with her feet bandaged from an operation with Viv, doing each other's hair, alone with no staff, and they hear sirens and these limos bring these people to the door, they stupidly answer it and this man with an entourage tours the house, doesn't recognize them and leaves after seing Lucy's house top to bottom, and not knowing he just saw Lucy in person, and he says he's the King of Persia, yeah, very unusual and unbelievable! But it actually happened!

Wow!The filling and the king of Persia story is interesting!The Japanese spy and everything is true?Yes,yes, I know the news at 11 isn't true.Anybody remember the Gilligan's Island episode of Gilligan having a filling in his tooth and every time his mouth opened the filling was like a radio?Was it because of Lucy's filling that story was made?
