Just wanted to let all the Yvonne fans know that one of her Elvis movies will be on Jan. 8th. Jan 8th is Elvis' birthday, so TCM will be showing an Elvis movie marathon.

Here's the times according to tvnow.com:

Kissin' Cousins
120 minutes- USA, 1964, Video

Directed by Gene Nelson and starring
Elvis Presley, Arthur O'Connell, Glenda Farrell
Jack Albertson, Donald Woods, Yvonne Craig
Tommy Farrell

An Air Force officer is sent to convince a rural relative to release some land for a missile silo.

Wed Jan 8 07:00A TCM- Turner Classic Movies

*Check your tv guide to make sure the time is correct*

Oh yeah, Yvonne was also in another Elvis movie. I think it's called 'It Happened @ the Worlds Fair'. I don't think it comes on Jan 8th, but I'll keep you updated if you're interested in seeing it.

Pitooey,
I still haven't seen that movie ("Kissin' Cousins"), and I was curious about something: Did Elvis look enough UNlike himself in the blond wig to *not* be recognized?

I was wondering because, while commenting in her book about what a prisoner of his own fame Elvis was, Yvonne said something to the effect of "It's too bad he didn't put that wig on once in a while and go out and do some of the things ordinary people do . . . without fear of getting mobbed."

It would seem to me that the blond wig wouldn't *quite* be enough to disguise him. In the one still photograph I've seen of him as the blond character, he looked just like himself to me. I think I'd have recognized him if I saw him on the street that way. But then again, I knew in advance that I was going to be looking at a picture of Elvis. So, I'm really not sure.

Maybe she was thinking of him wearing dark glasses, in addition to the wig.

Later,
Art

Art Elvis looked the same in the blond wig. Maybe if he wore different type clothes with the blond wig maybe he wouldn't be recognized. I would recognize him though. Do you know that Elvis was born with a twin brother who was really blond? It's true...

I've come across some very nice pictures. Let me save them and post them. Only one of them show him as a blonde. The quality is kind of crappy in that pic.

Yeah, now agree with Jenny Lee. He still looks the same to me, but if he tried wearing dark glasses with the wig, he could've gotten away with going outside and not getting mobbed by the fans.

Agreed. Hey, I noticed that you often have great Elvis pics in your sig. Maybe you go here, but I'm sure you could find some awesome pics of him on Google.com. Just click on the Image tab. Again, maybe you already do that or tried it and didn't find anything good.

That's a really cool pic. Thanks for posting it. Hey, I know I'm getting way off topic here, but I was just wondering if you've ever been to Graceland before. I'd love to go there sometime. I'm j/w.

Hi all,
No, there's no doubt about it -- if Elvis would've ever wanted to go out to a movie, or go bowling, or go to a supermarket, or some other "normal people" activity, the blond wig would NOT have been enough. *Maybe* if he added dark glasses and a fake beard, or at least mustache, to the mix, it *might've* worked. Apart from all that, I think, a COMPLETE disguise . . . like the kind of stuff Michael Jackson pulls . . . would've been necessary. Poor guy.

I always felt sorry for Elvis during that part. I've read books about him and it just seems awful that he couldn't go out and do anything without being mobbed. I bet he couldn't even do the simplest task, like checking his mail.

However, it sounds like Elvis was a very, very, very nice guy. I've read some stuff about the nice things he's done for people. He wasn't one of these Hollywood types that totally ignore the fans.

Thanks for answering my question. I've been wanting to go for so many years and never could go. I hope I can make it up there sometime and I hope you can too, once you start feeling better.

Jenny,
It's definitely sad that Elvis couldn't have a normal life . . . which we tend to take for granted. You and I both can enter a McDonald's and buy a hamburger and think nothing of it. He couldn't. But on the other hand, he had a lot of things neither you nor I will ever even see. At the same time, in addition to all that he had, if he ever wanted a McDonald's hamburger also, he needed only tell one of his "henchman," and I'm sure he'd have it -- (finger snap) just like that. He just couldn't go and get it himself. That's really not that much of a hardship, when you think about it.

He was also *extremely* well-protected. In fact, Yvonne tells a story in her book about a night when Elvis fell asleep watching TV with her in his room. According to her, she quietly turned off the lights and the TV, and she left . . . only to be confronted on her way out of the house by a number of cops with weapons drawn! Apparently, in her efforts at finding the buttons which turned off the lights and the TV, she'd inadvertantly hit some security panic button. I doubt *we'll* ever experience that kind of protection.

Call me crazy, 'cause over all, though, I'd still rather have the "normal" life.

Later,
Art

P.S. Incidentally, Yvonne also raves about what a nice guy Elvis was.

Art,

You def. named some good points, and I agree with you about the normal life. I'd rather have it too.
