I vote for Jenny too, or DawsonGirl. I really am starting to get tired of some of these fights here. I'm all for freedom of speech, but there's no need to be rude to people who have different opinions than you do.

I think TheFonz and Jenny would be a good moderating team. They're both calm, non-combative people with good judgement. There's no need for anyone heavy-handed who's going to get power happy and close boards left and right. Disagreements are fun, and if they're stopped altogether, I think the board would lose members. I don't even participate in them, but they're fun to read. It has gotten out of hand lately though.

I agree. I mean, not everyone agrees on everything. I can see that another moderator would be very nice. We can argue without blowing up. We should be able to display our agreements like an adult.

Thank you! You would too. So would PennyLanem & Wingsfan - there's even more that would make great moderators also. I actually Emailed him saying I was interested if he ever needed one. Id much rather be a moderator on the Happy Days board, but we've never had a fight there, so its not really necessary! LOl.

There's nothing wrong with a good old fashioned debate every now and then, but I'll have to agree many of the fights have gotten just a wee bit out of control! Let's not stop the debating (it can be fun), but let's not blow up! I'm sure we can find a happy medium.

I can live with a fight or two, that is to be expected.. but I could close about half of the topics on this 1st page alone and I haven't even read any of them - why does every thread need to turn into one??

I vote for Jenny as well, And far as The Fonz's Idea, I think 2 or more would be a good idea, Since there is so much fighting and everything, JMO though...

I know. I said its obvious who likes to fight and who doesnt. I also said We said so ourselves, meaning everyone who replied to this post..everyone here said they dont mind a debate everyonce in awhile. Its the fights that mess everything up.

I think it all boils down to immaturity and attention seeking -- plain and simple. There's a fine, fuzzy line between a "debate" and pettiness. I've never once been to a message board where there isn't at least one immature poster, constantly trying to stir up a rucas. It's rather trite and predictable, yet they still have to ruin everyone else's fun out of lack of something better to do. It's inevitable. You can try your hardest to rid them, but by giving them acknowledgement at all, you're basically giving them the ammunition to further their behavior... you're basically fulfilling their goals of attention, whether it be positive or negative -- it's attention all the same.

Yes, a monitor would be a good idea... but as for the other posters... your best contribution could just be to avoid the posts all together and save TJ the stress of having to deal with all the negativeness. If you let the trouble makers be, they'll eventually get bored and it'll die down.

Exactly what I was thinking. The way you put it, it is so obvious what needs to be done. Just ignore the people who start random fights for no purpose but a closed thread and one (or more) less friend.

It is too bad that the fights happen. This is one sad world. :(

I've got a suggestion. I'm not really sure what you have planned out. Are you going to pick 3 or 4 people to moderate the whole Chit Chat board or are you going to pick 3 or 4 people for the general chat, 3 or 4 for sports, 3 or 4 for music etc? If you do the second option and get 3 or 4 people running each section that will give quite a few the chance to moderate. I know several people that want to be moderators and they aren't, so that may give them a chance to moderate.

I've tried to get that point across for some time. But many people just can't let an insult go at that. I guess that's why trouble-makers thrive so well in situations like that. Because they are being fed negative energy. I agree we need moderators. But what we really need are more mature people who will let petty insults slide.

REALITY CHECK!!
Trouble makers aren't going to go to a "fight board". They seek out fights! They don't go to their designated corners. Besides, TJ isn't declaring a ban on fights, he's declaring a ban on the airheaded and constant bickering we've been getting, and the belief that F' you and 'up your bazooka' is okay to write anytime that anyone pleases. He's asking for common courtesy to prevail. He's hoping that it stays that way, and, if it doesn't, then the perpetrators of trouble will be left out of all the fun--once and for all.
That's my take on TJ's request. If he has clarifications I guess he'll post them.

I would not be afraid to volunteer. I agree that the fights have gotten way out of hand. I took over the Music board because there were fights and things seem to be better now over there. I became a peer mediator last year in school so I know how to handle these issues. I think this thread should be closed. It has only started another fight.

I vote for Janice. She's has lots of experience with heated debate from her tenure moderating the "Coach" board. ;)

Ask TJ to let you be a moderator for a month and a half or something. When that time is up, you can email TJ and ask how you did and if you can become a full moderator.

I'd Volunteer too.. but I rather just not do that ;) I also have school and such to deal with as well! Blah.

I'm already a moderator of 2 other boards (Chit Chat Sports and The Wonder Years) so I could.

I'm going to volunteer. Even if I don't become a moderator, at least I tried. lol *le sigh* I just hope Chit Chat becomes better then it is/was.

Hopefully with Mods, All the fighting and swearing will just stop...
