View Full Version : Movies you saw but didn't get...
Central Perk 12-19-2002, 08:16 PM What are some movies that you saw but you were unable to follow the story line, didn't understand what was happening, or thought the whole thing didn't make sense at all. I know I might have been redundant..but..did anyone see any movies that fell under the categories I mentioned?
Janice 12-19-2002, 08:22 PM Vanilla Sky and Mulholland Drive twisted my brain like a pretzel.
Brian Damage 12-19-2002, 08:26 PM Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway are wacky!
Krisalicious 12-19-2002, 08:38 PM City of Angels
~*Hannah_Lee*~ 12-19-2002, 11:18 PM The Sum of All Fears really messed with my brain for the first 30 minutes of so, but then things kinda came into play with one another.
Janice 12-20-2002, 12:04 AM Minority Report was confusing too.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 12-20-2002, 03:25 AM Vanilla Sky. I didnt understand it and it sucked IMO. The best part of the movie was Conans "appearance" on a background TV screen.
"The Horse Whisperer" not because the storyline and plot devices were confusing, but because I was asleep the whole movie! It was so, damn, boring!
dlemond 12-20-2002, 11:04 AM I understand why everyone found Vanilla Sky so confusing, but what made it a terrible movie was that in the last 15 minutes they explained everything that was going on (at least what was happening to Tom Cruise).
It was a total cop-out with no real clues for you to even guess what the deal was.
It felt like there was no real payoff for all the mystery.
Movies like Mulholland Dr. are left up to you for your own interpretation and I feel this is much better than a quick wrap-up.
Another confusing movie which I thought still left much to your own interpretation was Jacob's Ladder.
Janice 12-20-2002, 02:28 PM I liked the director's commentary on the Vanilla Sky dvd more than the actual movie itself. It was as long as the movie.
Eyes Wide Shut was another brain twister for me.
Brian Damage 12-20-2002, 04:38 PM This movie wasn't confusing as it was trippy, but Natural Born Killers.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 12-20-2002, 05:05 PM The Ring, until someone explained it to me.
Faith 12-21-2002, 06:58 AM Soul Survivor....
I have never been able to follow any of David Lynch's films.
He's a little to out there for me..
A recent film that I just don't get that I saw in the theaters and have seen again now that is on HBO is "A.I. Artificial Intelligence."
Is it Sci Fi? A fairy tale? A futristic retelling of Pinnochio?
While it was visually stunning, none of the pieces fit together.
Plus that sixth sense kid really scares me sometimes...
AnaheimPMWitch 12-21-2002, 02:50 PM okay the First time I saw Moulin Rouge the first five minutes of it where they have that scene with all the screens going by fast and the song and stuff I was like "WHAT IS THIS MOVIE ABOUT?' but then about 5 minutes later I was like OOH DOY i GET IT!! and its one of my FAVE movies now
same with the others during the first hour or so I didnt know what was happening who was who What was what all that nice stuff but I got it by the end and its ALSO one of my faves now :)
TJL I KNOW that Kid SCARES the living daylights out of me:eek: I wonder if he goes around saying "I see dead people"
-*Forever*- 12-21-2002, 04:05 PM Silence of the Lambs confused me a LOT, maybe cos the volume was down and I could barely hear it, or maybe cos it was just CONFUSING in parts... my mom explained it to me though. Jodie Foster rocked in that movie *nods*
Brian 12-21-2002, 04:09 PM The one movie that I can remember at this moment that I could never grasp the plot or anything for that matter is Phase IV. It was a movie featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000 during the KTMA days. It had ants attacking a science lab but it never explains why or anything. The ending still leaves me scratching my head, too.
*ShortCake* 12-21-2002, 05:16 PM The Others really surprised me.. but it confused me for the first 5 minutes, then i kind of figured it out throughout the movie. I also didnt get "The Red Violin". LOL Probably never will. Oh well.

How was it confusing? Are you talking about Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report"? You couldn't be talking about that, because everything fit like a glove.

Unless you know of another movie called "Minority Report", then yes, I'm talking about the Spielberg movie.
What I think happened with me and that movie was that I found it so excruciatingly boring and ridiculous with the pre-cogs soaking in the water and whatever....I may have dozed off. Not really, but I zoned out and didn't even try to follow it because I didn't care what happened.
I saw it at the theater. What a butt-burner.
Brian Damage 12-23-2002, 02:48 PM Anything directed by David Lynch is garaunteed to get your head spinning.

That explains it. Well, I kinda liked the movie. Spielberg is one of the best directors of the last 30 years, his movies are consistently good. I guess it's a matter of taste.

I agree that Spielberg is enormously talented. It is a matter of personal taste which explains the different reactions to Minority Report. Some of my friends loved it and some hated it.
:)
Sitcomwriter 02-19-2003, 05:50 PM Ok It wasn't a movie but the recent short-lived "Push, Nevada" confused the hell out of me and I think just about everybody who watched it which is why it was cancelled after only 6 episodes.
Also anything by David Lynch.
PS.Did anyone know that "Mulhouland Drive" was originally going to be a drama series for ABC? Just a bit of trivia....
