I read in the latest Guitar World in the article about the recording of "You Know You're Right" that Kurt No-Brain was laughing about the time when Eddie Van Halen wanted to jam with him--and Kurt No-Brain DISSED him. He used to idolize EVH, but that was BEFORE the whole grunge thing, and now that Kurt No-Brain was the most powerful man in the music biz back in '92, he felt he could blow off the guy he used to idolize. "Cause I'm Kurt Cobain, and grunge rules, and Eddie Van Halen is a total hair metal poseur from the 80's..." So what's with this I'm-so-tres-alternative elitist attitude from the 90's anyway??:mad: :confused: :rolleyes: What was wrong with Eddie Van Halen anyway?? But hmm, lessee. Van Halen's first album came out with a blast in 1978. Hearing "Eruption" and "You Really Got Me" and "Running With the Devil" was a revelation to those of us traumatized by disco. I saw Van Halen open up for Black Sabbath in 1978, and they were AMAZING. When Nirvana came out in 1991, that was a revelation, too. I guess it was a breath of fresh stinky air back then, but...yeah, don't get me wrong, I thought Nirvana was really cool back then, too, but... it was after hearing about all the problems in the news with Nirvana that I just didn't really get into them anymore. I dunno. When did Van Halen begin to lose it?
When they got Sammy Hagar?

What made Eddie Van Halen such an object of derision for Kurt No-Brain to blow him off? Van Halen was cool at one time. Did Kurt blow him off just because he could?? What's with this high-brow attitude of these elitist snobs in Seattle music??:confused:

Btw, I LIKE Nirvana's music. I LIKE In Bloom--and I understand it.

I LOVE Nirvana. Kurt Cobain and the rest of the band were awesome! If Kurt was still alive I am sure he would have been the greatest rock icon of the 90's, which he was pretty much anyway. I think Nirvana would have had an even greater legacy like Aerosmith, and Kurt Cobain would be as commonly known as Steven Tyler. And just for the record, I think it should be Captian No-Brain-ica instead of Kurt No-Brain.

Yeah, I still think about what I was saying and I have to say, you can't say those guys didn't have some killer stuff back then. I remember 10 years ago, Nirvana WERE the epitome of cool. I was there at his memorial vigil in Seattle, and put a candle in a strawberry shake cup in remembrance for him. I guess I should be careful about dissing the dead. I wasn't dissing Kurt for his musical abilities, but the arrogant attitudes most people in Seattle had toward other kinds of rock. The good thing about Nirvana was that they made us face the demons in us and write our own songs reflecting that.

Hey, sorry for blowing up on ya in the previous post. I think i might have misunderstood ya. I am a pretty big fan of Nirvana, so I kinda go all crazy and nuts. But i get what you were saying now. And I see that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. And i have to agree, Nirvana had some awesome stuff back in the day. Smells like Teen Spirit has been named the greatest alternative rock song of all time, so they had to have done something right back then!!

I disagree with a lot of things that Kurt said (and did), but that doesn't make Nirvana any less my second favorite band. Although, as was posted above, during the height of Nirvana's popularity, Eddie Van Halen was a drunken buffoon.

Now he's just a joke.

Yeah, I think when I read the article, it said that Kurt was blowing off the guitarist he used to idolize (as well as everyone else used to), Eddie Van Halen. And Eddie was drunk at the time, so more power to Kurt for putting him in his place. Cause the time when everyone idolized EVH was during the Eruption/You Really Got Me/
Somebody Get Me a Doctor/Everybody Wants Some days in the late 70's when he set the world on its ear with his mindblowing guitar. Ten years ago, when Nirvana was on top, Eddie was just a shell of his former glory, cranking out safe corporate hits in Van Hagar (THIS TOUR SPONSORED BUY MICHELOB--AND PEPSI CLEAR!!!:barf: :rolleyes: ).

The real reasons why I was down on Nirvana:
1. The snooty, snobby Seattle attitude,
2. COURTNEY LOVEHOLE. :eek:

Other than that, Nirvana was way cool. I think at that time I was more into Soundgarden and Alice In Chains.

You're right, I change my opinion--I don't hate Nirvana now. Certain things about them I didn't like, but not about the music. Things that were actually peripheral to the band. The "we're better than anyone else attitude" of Seattle way back when, and more importantly, COURTNEY LOVEHOLE. As long as she has control of their music, it spoils my enjoyment of it--it's not in the hands of Krist and Dave anymore. Dave Grohl said that she spoiled something pure with their music, now it's all this legal beagle business. But as far as the music itself goes, I would be a fool to deny how cool it was--and still is. :cool:
