On Thursday, the US Food and Drug Administration linked shredded iceberg lettuce supplied to Taco Bell restaurants in five states to an ongoing cyclosporiasis outbreak, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The new information comes as health officials continue investigating a multistate outbreak of the illness that has sickened an estimated nearly 7,000 people, according to CDC estimates -- not all of them tied to the outbreak involving the Taco Bell locations, according to the CDC.

Symptoms of cyclosporiasis include watery diarrhea, fatigue and loss of appetite, according to the CDC. Symptoms usually begin about a week after a person becomes infected.

Cases have been reported in 34 states, with the bulk of illnesses reported in Michigan. State health officials there have reported 4,312 cases and 102 hospitalizations. In Ohio, state health officials reported 1,244 cases -- up from just under 200 cases at the beginning of July.

Or avoid TacoBell until this outbreak is over :)

The problem here is that contaminated lettuce comes from company called Taylor Farm which also supply salad to chain restaurants like Chipotle and McDonald's, and big grocery stores, including Costco, Walmart, and Trader Joe's. So it might be wise to stay off lettuce for time being.

Here in the Midwest, I know Meijer also carries that brand.

Taco Bell/diarrhea jokes have been a staple of American culture for decades, but I used to eat Taco Bell a lot — for years — and it never once made me sick. This is just unfortunate and, hopefully, short lived.

It'll probably cut into their business for a month or two.

Probably. But if Jack in the Box can rebound after an E. coli outbreak that killed four children, Taco Bell will recover from this, too.

I used to work in a building that also had a TacoBell stand and I could see how they prep the food in the back. Everything comes in bag including "cooked" beef or chicken and the way they heat those items are they put it in very hot bath water. Nothing is cooked over stove or put in the oven. So when in Taco Bell, I just get their bean burrito and pass over their meat item menu.

Same with me. Basically the only thing I ever get from Taco Bell is a Bean & cheese burrito. Not for health or sanitary reasons . But because they are tasty , and the other items aren't that appealing to me. :)

Oh OK ! I figured it would be something silly. Poor Frank ! But at least he is being brought up again, even though it's just in jest. I pretty much forgot about Frank Stallone , but for sure he was an actor ! Having Sylvester as a brother would be a tough act to follow.

I’m not here to be felt sorry for or be treated as special. I only mentioned I’m in a wheelchair to set a baseline. My condition isn’t curable; it’s only manageable.

One day I might decide to talk more openly on the forum about my condition. Until then, don’t bring it up again. Please respect the fact that I don’t want to discuss this at all until further notice. Please also respect all other boundaries I’ve previously set between us.

Everyone else seeing this, please don’t treat me any differently than you did yesterday.

And now, back to discussing a more important subject than myself: hot, explosive post-chalupa ****s.

My cousin's daughter--my first cousin once-removed--was injured in a horsesplay pool accident many years ago. In her situation, she was pushed into the pool headfirst, and the hit at the bottom resulted in a permanent spine injury.

What seems like innocent play can certainly have tragic, life-altering consequences.

Off topic , but kind of on topic . There is a movie coming up called " I play Rocky" .It's a biopic, an actor will be playing a young Sly Stallone and how he came to play Rocky. I saw previews of it. Looks good. Will be in theaters in November. :)

That’s terrible. I’m sorry to hear that. Adjusting to paralysis was probably even more traumatic than the accident itself; your whole world changes for the worse in an instant. Flip of a switch.

I’m not paralyzed, and in my case, the loss of function — including the ability to walk — was gradual. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease at 24 that slowly but steadily eroded and deformed my joints. By 26 I could no longer work, and by 34, I was using an electric wheelchair full time.

This past December (just after Christmas), I finally accepted that I can’t live alone anymore and moved back in with my 72-year-old parents three states away and now my dad is officially my caretaker.

But my son is here too, so that’s cool. And life’s been pretty good since the move.

Overall, I’m a happy person. It’s taken 21 years, but I think I’m in the process of finally making peace with what’s happened to me. The grief of the loss of my independence and the ponderance of “what could have been” will always be with me, but I’m okay now. I’m in a good headspace for the first time in a very long time.

All my best to your cousin’s daughter.

Yeah, I saw the trailer the other day. I’m a huge fan of the Rocky franchise, and the kid they’ve got playing Stallone nails the part.

Looks good! I’ll probably go to the theater to watch it.

Yes, I've been out of touch with them for a while. There are almost constant treatments and setbacks. They moved from Calif. to Louisville for the promise of better care, several years ago.
