As is already known, UM took us viewers on adventures all across the country and sometimes, aboard. This is a fun post for cases based on what you would say are the most iconic from each state because the case reflects a semblance about what establishes the state's uniqueness. For the large and vastly diverse California, let's break that one down by its cities. Here are some from my own perspective:

Arizona: Palo Verde train derailment

Colorado: Orange Sock murders

Florida: Tammy Lynn Leppert

Montana: Dexter Stefonek

New Mexico: Tara Calico

Ohio: Highway prostitute killer

Pennsylvania: Dale Kerstetter

Rhode Island: Adam Emery

Wyoming: Lisa Kimmell

Florida had so many….Tommy Zeiglar, Little Miss Pannasofkee, Oba Chandler, Pamela June Ray….

I've mentioned it before.. But SC doesn't have many.

I'd go with either Blue Ridge Savings Murders, which is still technically unsolved.. They think they know who did it, but.. He's dead and they can't tie him to it fully..

Dana Satterfield who was murdered by Jonathan Vick.

Or Walter Rice.. Which.. I believe we solved here..

SC- Pamela Buckley and James Freund.

They were never profiled on UM, were they? I know the case, but I never recall it being on UM.

I’m probably wrong, but I thought they were.

They only gave a snidbit of the case, as an extension of the Dana Point Jane Doe segment. But the Sumter County Does definitely would have been more interesting if they had been given their own regular length segment.

They were known as the Sumter County Does. Their case was briefly featured on Unsolved Mysteries in 1995 with two other Does (all of whom have been identified).

Thank-you. I thought they were on the show but when I searched, I couldn’t find the episode.

Newfoundland & Labrador: Gander Plane Crash. Specifically, the interview with rescuer Harvey Day as he is pretty much the average Newfoundlander, accent and all.

Michigan would have to go to Missy Munday and Jerry "circlestansive" Strickland

Ontario: Blind River

Alabama: Marie Hilley

Connecticut: Martha Moxley

Florida: Tammy Lynn Leppert is a good choice, but I might go with the Deborah Poe segment

Louisiana: Oneal Moore

Maine: Joyce McLain

Mississippi: Norman Ladner

Nevada: Terri McClure

New York: Son of Sam, or Sneha Philip

North Carolina: Rhonda Hinson

Ohio: The Wackers, just because it's such a notorious case around here

Oregon: Jeremy Bright

Tennessee: Signal Mountain (ATV) Murders

Texas: Colleen Reed. UM profiled her because she was missing at the time, but she was one of Kenneth McDuff's many victims in the state. The Edward Bell segment is going to be the most well-known though because of McConaughey

Virginia: Sammy Wheeler

British Columbia: Cindy James

I think Texas and Florida could also be broken down by city because there are so many segments from those as well.

Texas: there are at least 2 from my hometown of Arlington. Patsy Wright and the IH 70 Killer. Kenneth McDuff was also mentioned.that was in Austin. Austin currently has a big controversy at Lady Bird Lake as to whether there are a lot of intoxication drownings there, or if there is a serial killer. I also think that the Michael Lloyd Self Segment could be added on in the future as there are a lot of unsolved murders and disappearances of young women in that area. Some of them were attributed to Edward Bell, but were not all conclusive. I think my biggest UM's in Texas are Patsy Wright, Elizabeth Campbell, and the Marfa Lights. the Marfa Lights might be dismissed as hogwash by some, but for me it showcases a very beautiful yet desolate area of Texas that is probably the best dark sky area that I have ever been to. that environment is most likely the reason for some of the phenomena that people are seeing.

California-Golden State Killer-this scared the crap out of me even as an adult, when I first saw it.

New York City-Su-Ya-Kim and Stanley Gryziec for upstate

Florida-Todd Mcafee, again another segment that scared me as an adult

BC-OGO POGO

I'll try to do a state by state post as I believe every state was featured at least once.

Ill do Canada since I am Canadian:

BC- Phillip Fraser (murdered by hitchhiker in Northern BC, when driving from Alaska to Seattle)

Alberta- The Edmonton Rapist (abducted and raped two children, killing a six year old girl in Edmonton,AB). The case was solved by DNA in 2003, and the killer was sentenced to life in prison. It's believed that he is responsible for other sexual assaults on children in the city.

Saskatchewan- none worth mentioning

Manitoba- Richard Bocklage (executed his ex-girlfriend in Kansas City, before fleeing to Canada). His car was located in Northern Manitoba city of Thompson in 1980, and has never been seen again.

Ontario- Blind River Killer (shot three people at a rest stop off the Trans-Canada highway in 1991, two died). Technically unsolved, but all circumstantial evidence points to an ex-Police officer, who was arrested for the murders of two women in Toronto in 1970, when DNA linked him to the crimes in 1995. He lived a few miles away from the Blind River in 1991, and also impersonated a Police Officer to gain the trust of the elderly couple at the stop, in order for them to let him in their RV to rob and shoot the couple.

Quebec- David Vieira (stalked and killed his ex-wife in Fall River, and fled to Montreal). Technically, he committed the crime in the US, but he was caught in Quebec, and extradited to Fall River, and convicted of murder.

New Brunswick- none worth mentioning

Nova Scotia- none worth mentioning

Newfoundland- Gander Plane Crash (256 people were killed when the plane crashed after takeoff in the town of Gander, Newfoundland, a stopover before leaving for a military base in Kentucky in 1985. Initially, a member of the group "Islamic Jihad" took responsibility, as the plane was being used to fly military peacekeeping force to the Sinai Peninsula in the Middle East, but it turned out to be a hoax).

The Suspicious activity of the US Government made ppl think it was a cover-up, for a more sinister act, but it is still officially classified as an accident.

Austin's my hometown and the 'Rainey Street Ripper' does get a lot of attention. I still don't know what to think about it.

I wouldn't be surprised if that gets the Netflix treatment at some point, either on UM or a docuseries, even though I'm not convinced there's anything there to dig into.

There were several from Oregon including Jeremy Bright mentioned upthread. Tommy Gibson, Ashley and Miranda, several others I’m not remembering right off. But the one that stands out to me the most was the Michael Francke case. My family and were living in Salem when this happened, it was absolutely huge. All over the news. It shook up a great many people.

ah yes Michael Francke is a good one. I was going to say DB Cooper for both Washington and Oregon. but there are so many other segments from both of those states. I think some posters used to joke about how many times Spokane was featured on UM.

I read extensively about this case when it happened, but by the time it appeared on Unsolved Mysteries, the show had switched to Lifetime (which was not available in my area). Reading about the case on the internet, and following it was an experience itself. I was on a messaged forum that provided updates on the case.

Ward Weaver Jr. was suspected of committing the murders by some people investigating the case early on, except the problem was that they could not say his name at the time due to legal reasons. So we had one individual that registered under the handle "Watchtower," who would doing everything possible to point towards weaver without saying his name.

Then in early July 2002, months after the girls had vanished, Ward Weaver did the unthinkable. He phoned a local TV station, and invited them to his residence, announced to them on-air that he was the main suspect, and proceeded to walk the reporter through his home, denying he had anything to do with the disappearances.

What was really creepy about the interview, is parts of it were conducted as Weaver was standing on top of a concrete slab he had poured in the spring, with one of the girls bodies buried underneath it.

At any rate, the case took a dramatic turn when Weaver attempted to rape his son's 17 year olf girlfriend. She escaped, and phoned the Police, and Weaver was finally jailed. It was only then that Police obtained a warrant to search and dig up the year, where they found the decomposing remains of both 13 year old girls.

What was incredible, is when the Police had surrounded his property, there were people (including the victims relatives), with home made signs saying "DIG ME UP." By then, it was an open secret that Weaver had killed the girls, and hid their bodies on his property.

Weaver ended up pleading guilty to both murders, to avoid the death penalty. Incidentally, his biological father killed a couple he had picked up in the 70s, and was on death row. Years later, his son (the one with the girlfriend he attempted to rape), was convicted of murdering a drug dealing rival, and sentenced to life in prison.

Never ceases to amaze me what you people remember. I'm lucky to remember the main segments, much less the special alerts and crap like that.

I'm in the hays county in the hill country kind of close to San Marcos/new braunfels. I didn't know about the Rainey Street Ripper until I moved here. I wouldn't rule out that some of the disappearances were not foul play probably with multiple different people involved in the various deaths. but I also think alcohol intoxication and accidental death could be an explaination for some of them. since I've been here we've had multiple late night bar shootings in San Marcos and they just had that bad one on 6th street.

Yeah it was Halloween weekend this past year, I think a Saturday night. there were a couple, maybe a few, different shootings downtown near the square. My son almost got his car stolen that same weekend in San Marcos, not connected in anyway though. Thankfully I have not heard of anything crazy happening of late. I always feel safe when I'm in town. everyone seems really nice there.
